Difference in MozPoints between My Account and Q&A forum
-
I noticed that there is a big difference between the mozpoints showing in my account and the mozpoint showing in the Q&A section of the website.
My Account shows me that I now have: 262 Mozpoints. When i look at my Q&A total is says: 303 mozpoints. There is a big hole between the two.
How is this possible and which of the 2 numbers is correct?
-
My Moz points seem to increase immediately by a couple of points when I post a question. I know that Moz awards a point for the question so I assume the "extra" 2 or 3 points come from some sort of caching issue which updates when Moz awards "automatic" points for something. Just an observation if that helps your techs who are looking into this issue.

Paul,
it is still awaiting approval i think:

that should be it.

Jarno, can you provide a link directly to your feature request for me? I'd REALLY like to endorse it and ask for the same thing, but I can't find your submission on the feature request boards.

Hi Jen,
thanx for your reply. I already contacted the Help team about this to and i added another suggestion to them, here's my e-mail:
================================
Hi there,
I hereby kindly notify you people about an issue that is playing with the mozpoints. Maybe you are already aware of things, maybe you are not. I posted a question on the Q&A section on the website too. Here’s the link.
http://www.seomoz.org/q/difference-in-mozpoints-between-my-account-and-q-a-forum
Isn’t it also an idea to build in some feature that shows you how many mozpoints you’ve earned in the current month?
Since I don’t have a start number for this month and earned a lot of point I might make it to 200 points in one month. It would be a shame if it turns out to be only 199. So an actual number for the month as far as it has past would be very helpful and greatly appreciated not only by me, but also by other mozzers.Hope you feel this is a good idea.
Looking forward for your anwer
Kind regards from the netherlands
Jarno Nijzing===========================================
And yesterday i got the following respons from Joel Day:
===========================================
Hi Jarno,
Thanks for reaching out. I'm sorry for any confusion with the MozPoints. This has actually been present for a good while. The profile does often pull cached information while the Q&A is updated in real time. Just figure the higher number is correct.
As far as your suggestion. I think that's a great idea. Can you do me a favor and post that in my feature request forum here:
https://seomoz.zendesk.com/forums/293194-seomoz-PRO-feature-requestsThanks! Let me know if you need anything else.
Cheers,
Joel.=========================================
So I added a request idea in the request forum. Hope it gets noticed their with all requests made by mozzers.
I like to thank you for answering my question to. Taking the time to do this.
kind regards
Jarno

Thanks Jenn!

Hi Jarno, sorry about the confusion there! We actually have a ticket in the queue to get this fixed, so we're definitely working on it! I've asked an engineer to let me know which one is correct, and will update this thread when I hear back. I have been assured though that we are capturing all of the MozPoints, so not to worry! Most likely it's a caching issue where one is pulling up-to-date numbers, and the other is pulling a slightly cached number. I'll add more info when I have it.
Thanks!

Hi!
Those are great suggestions, we really do try to keep everyone as informed as possible. We have an issues/error box in the PRO tools area that we update if that particular tool is down or has issues. Sadly we don't have anything like that in the Q&A area but I think that's a great idea. We have a number of small issues such as the Mozpoints one going on with Q&A and we are continually working to fix these. With a "built from scratch" app such as Q&A it has a lot of nuances that seem to come up, and when we find them, we fix them.
I apologize for not making it clear that there was an issue with Mozpoint numbers being off, as it wasn't a problem with a specific tool and didn't stop folks from getting work done we didn't prioritize the messaging. I know it's a big deal to many people though so we'll work on a better way to message that in the future.
Thanks!
-
I like your suggestion of having a status box with a link Paul.
-
I often see a delay in the point system between account and q&A
-
The points in the Q & A would be the most up to date.
Not sure why there is a difference bit it's not really a huge deal anyway?
-
My points show the same kind of discrepancy as yours and Dana's, Jarno. In fact, about a week ago, most of the questions in my My Q&A disappeared altogether. It looks to me like the database got fouled for some reason and the haven't finished fixing it.
The higher number should be the correct one. I'm keeping track of mine and if/when the whole thing settles out, I'll let them know if my count isn't correct.
I'm actually pretty disappointed with how little this kind of information and status updates are communicated. I also see a real lack of consistent updates with the tool outage problems that have been ongoing.
C'mon Moz folks, your commitment to TAGFEE says you should be doing a much better, more proactive job at this.
Why not have a simple red box at the top of any tools page that is currently experiencing issues announcing the issue and that you're aware of the problem, with a link to a regularly-updated status page. We shouldn't have to go searching through Q&A & blog posts to try to find out why stuff isn't working.
And telling us to send in a help ticket isn't a good idea either as only one person at a time will be getting the answer even though many are also experiencing the problem.
I'd really like to see a response here form the Moz folks too, Dana.

Hi Jamo, I think there is a minor issue with Moz Q&A right now. My points in one place or the other have been quite off for the last 5-6 days. No Worries, they are tracking everything. I believe it is just a glitch and that once they get it fixed all will be well with the world
Hopefully someone from SEOMoz will also chime in on this question
Ciao,
Dana

Why Do Different Tools Report 404s Differently?
Hi Mozers, How come Moz reports just six 404 errors, whereas Google Search Console reports 250 and Screaming Frog only reports a dozen? It seems to me that these results are all over the place. Shouldn't these reports be more consistent? I do understand that Search Console includes historical data and that URLs or issues need to be "marked as fixed" in order for them to go away, however, even if I do this, Google ends up reporting far more errors than anything else. Do 404s reported by Moz and Screaming Frog NOT include external links? It seems to me that this could be partially responsible for the issue. Also, is there a way to efficiently track the source of the 404s besides clicking on "Linked From" within Search Console 250 times? I was looking for something like this is Moz or SF but no luck. Any help is appreciated. Thanksabunch!

Duplicate Content & Rel Canonical Tag not working
I'm really questioning the legitimacy of the duplicate content flags with moz. I'm building a website that sells home decor products and a lot of the pages are similar in structure (As would be expected with a store that sells thousands of individual products). It seems a little overkill to me to flag the following pages as duplicate content. They have different urls, titles, h1, h2, and h3 tages, different meta tags, etc. Right now, it's saying that the following have duplicate page content: http://www.countryporchhomedecor.com

http://countryporchhomedecor.com/park-designs/rag-rugs/redmon-rag-rug-36x6 Any ideas? Also, it seems like it's not honoring the rel-canonical tag. It keeps saying that pages with a rel canonical tag are duplicates when some of the urls that it's flagging shouldn't even be indexed because of the canonical tag. Just how accurate is anyone's appraisal on this forum?
When people are discussing what affects their search engine rankings on this particular forum, which has got to be one of the most read on the Internet just how much guesswork is really going on? It seems like God almighty Google works from its own criteria and the rest of us all scrap to guess! I myself in the last week of posted various topics on here and are conflicting reports by so-called experts not that I am being critical for the sake of it. If you to one website and said to all the people on this forum just exactly why is it ranking to a degree for this particular key phrase or not as the case may be would there be any truly accurate knowledgeable answers that will come through and explained the difference? If you have a top 10 of most important things that would influence your rankings that are not guesswork would that be possible to say based on knowledge and expertise? And if so spill the beans what are ? What are the movers and shakers in their particular keyword phrases doing ongoing that's getting them the great results we all want ? Or is the entire subject of how well you rank ultimately not totally understood and only the realms of guesswork based on observation. When I was young I trained as electrician which dealt in facts, it seems like this is not possible with the world of business and search engine rankings?

Do I need to set the country in Webmaster Tools even if I am set to apply the hreflang tag to our different country pages?
We are global brand that will be migrating to a new platform in the next few months. As such, this will allow us to fix our current SEO issues. We are planning on using geo-targeted subfolders instead of country code top level domains primarily because of resource limitations. My question is - do I need to set the country in Webmaster Tools even though I am already going to tell Google that certain pages are targeted towards a specific country?
