Number of Words Product Pages
-
Hello,
Can you give me some examples of how many words you use for product pages? I know it's going to vary and that quality is more important than number of words, but what's been optimal for you and why?
-
Hi EGOL,
I think a slideshow will work best for some of our products. An expert talking about frequently asked questions with visual slides, could that work well?
-
Photos that show product features in detail.
Photos that show the product being used.
Visit some websites that sell the same products that you sell. Look at their photos and then produce photos that are kickass better.
-
Great photos are kickass in my opinion
What kind of photos work best?
-
I'd like to work with the top 20 products (top by sales last year).
This is a good idea. Work where you might make a big impact.
How do I add lots of content without the customer looking at all of those words and not reading it and leaving?
The products that I write about would be absolutely boring and of no interest to most people. However, those who are interested in the products read this content, watch the videos and stay several minutes on the page. When some of these people write to us or call on the phone we can tell that they have read the content and watch the video. They key is to know the products that you are writing about well and explain them thoroughly. If you can't do that they you are not the right person for this writing job. If you are working on the 20 most popular products there should be a lot to say about them.
Right now most of the information is in bullet points, I don't see how to keep the customer's interest.
Bullets work great for presenting product features.
Photos may help but I don't think that's enough.
Great photos are kickass in my opinion.
I'm assuming adding content would result in more long tails and more sales.
Absolutely you will get more long tails. You will get more sales if you know what you are talking about and answer the most common questions that people ask about the product. If you don't know what you are talking about or what people are asking then you are not the right person for this writing job. Bullshit will not increase your sales. You have to answer questions and explain the value in the product.

EGOL,
Most of this client's products have about 100 words. I'd like to work with the top 20 products (top by sales last year). How do I add lots of content without the customer looking at all of those words and not reading it and leaving? I think that approaching product descriptions with a number in mind is a recipe for poor performance.
Some products are clearly known and understood by most people and require very little explanation. On my sites these might receive 200 words (but there might be three to six of these products on a single page for comparison).
I have some products that sold slowly with 500 words and four nice images... .but when I added a video, 500 additional words and a link to an article of 2000 words and several images my sales multiplied. These are products that could be popular but not many people know about them or took them seriously in the past.
Some people would call these "boring" products.

Random important product pages dropped out of index week ending Dec 22: why???
Hello We've been around a very long time, and I have a long running pet set of core terms and pages tracked using Moz and other tools. With no changes to the content or site or htaaccess or robots.txt or sitemap, insignificant backlink changes etc, we saw a ton of important product pages drop out of the index the week ending December 22 2019. We are still ranking for many of the terms associated, but at far worse positions since the pages G is choosing instead for those terms are not as focused. I need to be clear that this has not happened across the board, but seemingly at random. When I look in G Search Console, the pages are submitted and indexed (last crawl yesterday), mobile friendly, have breadcrumbs, and the only warning are product level for lack of optional fields under offers (nothing new, not particular to the dropped pages in question here). So, what happened the week ending December 22???? Should I expect the dust to settle and the pages to return? Extremely strange. Thx

Reducing number of site pages?
Hi, I am looking through my site structure and I have a lot of pages left over from the days of article keywords. Probably 7 or 8 years ago, someone sold my husband on article key word pages. I have slowly gotten rid of a lot of them as they have fallen out out of the ranks. I would like to get rid of the rest, probably 5 or 6 pages. Will it hurt my rankings to delete pages and redirect them? My customers really like the simplicity of our site and I want to keep it that way, plus clean up flags that Moz is telling me is a problem. I think its easier to keep less pages top notch than have to worry with a lot of them. Especially since my customers aren't viewing them. Thanks in advance!

Duplicate Page Content and Duplicate Page Title
Hi All, I'm new in SEOMoz and have some questions after I have already spend 2-3 days trying to resolve the problems identified from Crawling one of my clients websites. I get quite a lot of Duplicate Page Conntent and Page Titles warnings and trying to find a workaround through the forums and posts. I continuously get this error on most of my pages: URL: http://domain.com/benefits with the same Page but with a WWW in front URL: http://www.domain.com/benefits Any advice will be highly appreciated. Thanks, Athos

How should I structure my product URLs?
How should I structure my product URLs for the best SEO results? Lets say my product is "American Apparel 2001". Would it be better to run the URL together or use a "-" between each word. Here are two ideas I had, but feel free to suggest others. realthread.com/products/americanapparel2001 or realthread.com/products/american-apparel-2001 Thanks for the help! Dru
