Local Vs National SEO Rankings
-
Hi Guys,
I just had a quick question, is it truly possible to rank number one worldwide/nationally for a keyword phrase these days such as, Computer repair services. I'm not too concerned with the local serps that come up above the fold. I'm just more concerned, if Google is looking to serve more local results into the regular serps listing? I hope that makes sense thanks.
Best,
Peter

Yes it is possible. I will start with a saying in this business.
SEO Organic rankings will largely depend on how organic friendly your content is. I have never seen a website that had very share-able, power, dynamic content that not rank. The power is in what you offer. If you what you offer is not very powerful in word-of-mouth; chances are you are in very a emotional roller-coaster ride.
A large part of what many webmasters miss is that your product, service, information, website/blog has to be very useful. What will become of a very useful website, product, and or service is the link profile for your website and very high rankings.
People ask me, "So how does SEO play into such a powerhouse?" Or why do I need SEO if my product, service, website is so raw!
SEO is more than just manipulating links and content. Keyword research will help you silo your website by targeting long-tail-keywords like you mention earlier.
Keyword research helps you ensure you setup a series of implicit and explicit conversation with your user, which will develop into many landing pages with a targeted conversion. That conversion could be to filter into a semantic-powerhouse email program (designed to generate revenue), coupon offer, instant discount on some product to checkout, a phone call, a lead, something.
The Keyword Research will evolve into marketing persona project that will help you understand how to direct users throughout your website to an end result.
After the Keyword Research, Persona Map and Content Conversation-Conversion Map,you'll need to silo (Google it tons of blog post our there on what this is and how to do it) your website and come up with a schema that interconnects your website for site-usability and crawl-ability is critical to ensure that you can rank for just about any keyword relative to your niche without having to resort into blackhat/grayhat linking. You can just do high-quality press releases, directories, and community advertising to promote your content.
*This is pretty much the only strategy that can ensure enough natural organic links develop to your root page on your server and any other inner directory or page in your site.
Hopefully this is a little clearer.

Number of Items As a Google Ranking Factor??
If I search for "hiking boots" and scan down the SERPs I see the following... Google reports "483 items" for the Zappos.com page. Google reports "Results 1 - 36 of 85" for the Shoebuy.com page (and that does not appear in their code). So, Google is obviously paying attention to the depth of your information or the number of items that you are showing. If they think that is important enough to count and report in the SERPs, might they also be using that information as a ranking factor?? PRACTICAL APPLICATION FOR SEO: If google is using this information, perhaps people should list all of their color, size, etc variants on a single page. For example if you sell widgets in five colors, instead of making one page for each color, list all five on the same page.

Why do I have 7 URLs from the same domain ranking on the 1st page?
I have a client that has individual pages for authorized dealers of their product (say "Car Dealers"). When you search for "brand name + location", Google returns 7 "dealership" pages from the parent company's domain as the first 7 results, but there is one that gets pushed off to the 5th page of the SERPs. The formatting of content, geo-targeting, and meta data on the page is identical on every single one. None of them have external links and there is not one extremely distinguishable thing to assess why the one page doesn't get placed on that first SERP. Why is the one getting pushed so far down? I know this may be a bit confusing, but any thoughts would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!

Did Google Just Punish Organic For Showing Up In Local?
Google pushed the local search results in a prominent spot on a ton of search results. That means (for me) that all first page rankings (including a lot of 1st place rankings) have completely disappeared. Subfolders still rank and homepage still ranks where local search is not included. This is weird. Is this a glitch or is there something we can do about this?

Are multiple domains for my website hurting my Google ranking?
Hello, I currently have two domains showing up in google search: shwoodshop.com shop.shwoodshop.com These domains are currently ranked in the #2 and #3 spot, however my page is much more trafficked than the current #1 ranking. I am wondering if the fact that I have two domains competing for the #1 spot is hurting my search ranking. If so, what is the best way to remedy this issue and get back my #1 spot? I'm rather new to SEO and teaching myself as I go, so I appreciate the feedback!
