Will Google penalize my website if I hide the H1 tag?
-
If I hide H1 tag (title on the homepage) with CSS, how Google handle with my site?
-
Thank You Irving and Ricky !
My WordPress Premium Theme has inside an article - shows the title as H1 and if we add the h2 tag it will show in the SEOMoz plugin.
But in the homepage My H1 is not found and every time, i update the blog with the new article - the first article is mentioned as H2.
So in Homepage, Changing the H2 title frequently will it have some problem ?
-
Ah yes, I thought you meant you were going to disregard the actual H1, if you are hiding text, certainly not a good idea!
-
Hidden text can get you penalized. It sounds like you want to position the CSS off of the page. Don't do it.
You can style the H1 to look like whatever you want, there is no need for it to be the huge default size so I see no reason to play schtick with your H1 tag.
-
I assume not. I believe Google will just use your first line of content as the H1! I think Rand did a video on this not too long ago. I don't think he believes H1s were very important.

Will I have duplicate content on my own website?
Hello Moz community, We are an agency providing services to various industries, and among them the hair salon industry. On our website, we have our different service pages in the main menu, as usual. These service pages are general information and apply to any industry. We also have a page on the website that is only intended for the hair salon industry. On this page, we would like to link new service pages: they will be the same services as our “general” services, but specialized for hair salons. My questions relate to duplicate content: Do we have to make the new individual service pages for hair salons with completely different text, even though it’s the same service, in order to avoid having duplicate content? Can we just change a few words from the “general service” page to specifically target hair salons, and somehow avoid Google seeing it as duplicate content? Reminder that these pages will be internal links inside of the hair salon industry page. Thank you in advance for your answers, Gaël

Dividing a website into two websites
I have a website which talks about Yoga and GMAT classes (2,000 pages). It has blog posts, Faqs, discussions, videos etc.I am planning to fork GMAT content (1,000) pages into a niche website to rank better. Is this a good idea or bad idea? Will Google think niche new Yoga site as duplicate content was there on Dance site in the beginning. I am doing this with assumption that niche website will have higher authority so that I can beat the competitors. What is the best approach to beat your competitors? I am primarily concerned of what happens if I fork half of the website into a new one. Will Google treat new website as a duplicate content website because, this content WAS present in old website and Google will have archives of that. Please help

Canonical URL Tag Usage
I have a large website, almost 1500 pages that each market different keywords for the trucking logistics industry. I don't really understand the new Canonical URL Tag USAGE. They say to use it so the page is not a duplicate but the page that MOZ is call for to have the tag isn't a duplicate. It promotes 1 keyword that no other page directly promotes. Here is the page address, now what tag would I put up in the HEAD so google don't treat it as a duplicate page. http://www.freightetc.com/c/heavyhaul/heavyhaul.php 1. Number 1 the actual page address because I want it treated like its own page or do I have to use #2 below? 2. I don't know why I would use #2 as I want it to be its own page, and get credit and listed and ranked as its own page. Can anyone clarify this stuff to me as I guess i am just new to this whole tag usage.

SEO for One Page Websites
Hi Are there any SEO guidelines for "one page websites". I'm looking into the 'benefit' it might have in combination with exact match URLs. Many thanks in advance.
