Access to a Clients Google Places Account
-
I would like to manage my clients Google places account so I can add pictures, fill out the profile etc. If he already has a Google places account how do I get access?
I feel a little gun-shy about asking for his personal email and password to gain access.

I agree with Mr. Wignall's and Ms. Ellis' responses--tell them to change the password temporarily for you, then change it back afterwards. I always tell clients that it's partly for MY protection, i.e. if they have someone else at their company who knows their login (or their login is hacked), I want a 0% chance that they think I might be the problem.
Also, you do NOT want to claim it under your own account:
- you would be artificially giving Google information that that account and other clients of yours might be co-owned, or co-managed (so, are any links between them really editorial?), and more importantly
- Google local search has more confidence in the listing being claimed by the real owner if the domain name of the email address claiming it = the domain name of the website (see this thread as well)

Hi Bob,
If you're working as a Local SEO for your clients, I think it's essential to develop a relationship of trust in which the client is willing to give you access to his account (just as he would give access to his hosting to his design team). To make you more comfortable, you can always tell the client to change his password after you've completed your work. I would not recommend trying to claim his account into your own. The client should maintain authority over his own account at all times, and should understand that if he wants to bring on an pro to work with him, the pro needs access.
I have been working in Local for the past 6 or so years and have never had a client express concerns about this. Just let them know they can alter their password at the close of work and they should be fine.

Right- I can see that. You can always remove it from your places account tho. The other profile will still have access to it, however. So make sure that they know any changes they make will overwrite anything you do.

I totally forgot about the dashboard. Sometimes on the fence about claiming something that is not mine. The process of transferring back to the owner is sometimes not so obvious. Thanks for the info
-
It's funny you mention that. I have my clients setup mark@example.com. I use mark to be short for marketing so it's not so obvious!
-
Can you have them switch the email in which the account is attached? Example would be have them create a email for you like marketing@example.com?
-
The best way will be to ask for the login to the places account. You can however, claim the profile under your account as well.
Login to Places. From your dashboard, click "Add Another Business" in the top right corner. It will bring you to a page where you can enter the business phone number. Direct link here: http://www.google.com/local/add/g?hl=en-US&gl=US#phonelookup
If the Places page is already claimed, then the business should show up. Select the business you want, fill out the information, and then PIN verify the business. Once verified, it will show up in your Places account.

Hi Bob, I suspect many of use have been in the same position with SME customers.
As far as I know, there's still no way round using your client's login. SEOs have been complaining about this for along time, and asking for Agency access permissions, with absolutely no success.
I explain to clients that I need access, and that they should change their password afterwards. Always goes down well

How realistic is it to get to googles first page
Hello, I cannot say what my website it for, as it is very unique ( or will be for the next 4-6 months ). I am currently developing this site now with the view to launch next month. I will be doing every bit of on-site SEO as possible. Spending countless late nights perfecting it, referring to MOZ checklists and blogs. When the site goes live my team of 4 will be constantly marketing/SEO for around 5 hours each a day. Things like doing guest blogs, normal blog posts, link building .... essentially all aspects that need to be covered. As well we are consulting with an SEO company to help us too. I have 1 main keywords which I need to rank for ( I can't show these ). This keyword has a 62% keyword difficulty, however, the website with number 1 position for this keyword only has 8 Domain Authority and 23 page authority. Given the fact 4 of us will be doing non-stop of-site SEO, aswell as paying an SEO company and in general my content and site structure will be a lot more releveant for the user. Is it possible for me to rank in the top page of google within 3 months of launch, and become rank 1/2 after 4-5 months? Thanks

Blog Content if Google has stated it doesn't like your blog?
Hi guys, In the new 'mobile usability' tab in Webmaster Tools, Google has stated that our blog isn't offering a good experience for users. Something we already knew and I want to change, but I can't get the budget approved to complete the work. I was just wondering if you think Google isn't going to hold my content very high as a result. I want to produce more content on our blog around our valuable keywords in hope to improve our rankings, but if Google isn't holding our site in high regard I'm thinking there may not be much point in it. Any thoughts would be appreciated. Thanks Brian

Can a rel author tag point to a Google+ business page
I’m trying to get my blog posts to show with rich snippets but they are a collaborative effort from our staff and as such are posted under our business name. We do have some guest bloggers who write under their own name and we use the author tags to show this. Is there a similar way to do this with a business?

Google plus Rich snippets for guest posting on large websites
I work for a content marketing company and the majority of our clients are large banks looking to get their message out there. We're thinking of favouring writers with Google plus profiles and adding the rel=author tag so all the articles incorporate rich snippets and a profile image. So this is more of a discussion into whether you think this would be beneficial to a large corporation. I know it aids in search and authority but it would mean a company would have many faces and they usually have one.

Think of when a company makes a speech on TV its always 1 person designated as the company spokesperson. Another way would be to write on behalf of somebody in the company and have there profile image but I can imaging this is frowned upon by Google. What are your thoughts0 -
Adding a new wp client to subdirectory - SEO?
Im working with couple of clients in the travel business. Im building up a network of blogs that add content, internal contextual links and so forth to clients websites. What I want to do is to install a fresh wp client to a subdirectory e.g. www.mydomain.com/blog for every and each client. This way I can get my outsourcing workers to log-in there and write content, add internal contextual backlinks etc. This also solves the problems of letting them learn on various different local CMS systems that are often just in the local language - that nobody understands:) So either I install it as an additional wp client if the clients has a wp client for the root domain. Im wondering what effects this will have on SEO and what is important to do?. E.g. do I install a new sitemap for this new wp client in subdirectory - or do I merge it with the one for the root domain. How? In regard to GA tracking - do I add the same tracking code to the new wp install or somehow merge it into the root domain? Are there some issues I need to worry about especially when using this approach?

I have created 2 blogs for a client as they have 2 domains (1 for their core business, and 1 for a product). I want to use the same content on both blogs. What is the best way to set this up so there are no ranking or duplicate content issues?
We are pushing SEO for only one of the domains, therefore I would like one to be dominant. We will be sending the blog post via email to their database, therefore each blog needs to have the same content. Thank you!
