Seo results are down. Is my "all in one seo pack" to blame?
-
My website www.noobtraveler.com has shown a dip of 40% since Penguin's last update in November. I also transferred hosting at time, but I was wondering if I'm over optimizing with the all in one seo pack.
I would appreciate it if someone could do a quick sweep and share their thoughts.
Thanks!

You have a huge amount of high DA links, specifically from boardingarea, hyatt blogs and appsumo. You need to build a better link profile, not focus so much on 3 sites with high DA, and get links more naturally as often as possible. Almost every link on your OSE is a "controlled" link - blog comments, profiles, appsumo pages, etc.
These links are bad by themselves - they're actually good. But because they're such a high percentage of what you have as a whole, it can look to Google like you're not really all that popular except to 3 sites.
You have 1850 links on OSE from 46 domains - about 35 links per domain, a LOT. Also, nearly 100% of your anchor text is branded. That tells me you're controlling it. If I can see you're controlling the anchor text, Google can see it. Again, diversity is best.
202 of your 1850 links are nofollow, 1650 are dofollow. As before, a high ratio of nofollow signals spam or controlled link building. Natural nofollow profiles have 5-10% nofollow ratios, yours is 16% which is a touch high.
So I would start with your actual link profile. It's not likely AIOSEO unless you're doubling up on titles and meta, you should be ok.
Also, when you pin things, don't use the non-www version of your site. Several of your pins have "http://noobtraveler.com" instead of www-noobtraveler.com I would be as consistent as possible on that particular issue.

The All in One SEO Pack plugin is pretty good and used quite widely among WordPress-based websites. It focuses on on-site optimization including keywords/density, appropriate linking, canonical URLs, and the like.
Use of this plugin should not cause a 40% drop in traffic (you didn't say what you mean by a "dip", but I assume you mean traffic or search traffic).
Such a significant drop in traffic after the Penguin update is more likely to be related to what Google is perceiving as non-organic backlinks, including paid links or link exchanges. If you engaged in such practices, it would be best to work on removing those backlinks, including the link disavowal tool if you can't have them removed.

Hi Geoff,
Id start by doing a website crawl and utilizing SEOmozs excellent toolset: http://www.seomoz.org/tools. Your questions is a rather general: will you do an audit of my site issue. Which many of the people on this board do for livings. You are better off asking specific questions. As people can answer those and best practice recs.
The All-in-one SEO pack has limitations but is overall usually pretty decent for a basic WordPress website with low to medium competition thresholds.
If you believe you were hit by penguin I would recommend checking your backlink profile and disavowing any nefarious links.

New Featured Links in Organic Search Results?
Hi guys, I just performed a search and came across something that looks like "featured links" under a regular organic search result (see screenshot). This is the first time I'm seeing this. It looks like a combination of callout and sitelink ad extensions for Google ads. Basically, linked callouts. I went to the landing page to check out the source code and it seems like they are calling it "featured link" in their code. I tried to find more info online but wasn't able to find anything. (I might not be using the correct search terms.) Does anyone know how to take advantage of this? Thanks a lot for your feedback. dJ9dmTr

SEO experiments
Hello All, I would appreciate if you could share with me your insight and advise on how to run SEO and UX experiments. How do we set up the proper benchmark and control groups, what tools to use? How can we ensure that the changes we see are not due to other factors and what difference is needed to confirm our findings? Some of the things I would like to test is if certain words in the title tag can correlate with higher CTR or with lower bounce rates. I would also like to quickly test if the common best practices only 1 h1 etc have any effect on rankings at all. Please share with me from knowledge and experience. Thanks Much!

How Additional Characters and Numbers in URL affect SEO
Hi fellow SEOmozers, I noticed that a lot of websites have additional characters and words at the end of the URL in addition keyword optimized URL. Mostly for E-Commerce sites For example: www.yoursite.com/category/keyword?id=12345&Keyword--Category--cm_jdkfls_dklj or wwww.yoursite.com/category/keyword#83939=-37292 My question is how does the additional characters or parameters(not necessarily tracking parameters) affect SEO? Does it matter if i have additional keywords in the additional stuff in the URL (1st url example)? If you can provide more information, that would be helpful. Thank you!

International foreign language SEO questions
I'm looking to add some foreign language pages to a website and have a lot of international SEO questions. I think the overall question is can you do SEO yourself if you are a native English speaker for a language you don't speak (like Chinese)? 1. How do you go about doing keyword research for a foreign language? What tools are available? 2. How do you know what search engines you should optimize for in a different country? And where can you find the technical SEO requirements for each? I'm wondering things like title tag length for Baidu. Or is the Title length different for Yahoo Japan vs. US? Do you write titles and meta tags in Chinese/Japanese for respective countries? Etc.

SEO ranking factors
Hello I am reading SEO ranking factor (very good informations) and I want to ask: what does it mean: of linking C bloks to page I think that: how many(#) links from the same server (C block) links to your homepage or some pages of your web... of linking IP adresses to page how many web links are going to my web and every links are from another server. if I understand it good, it is no different between, if you have links from webpages in one server (one C block) or from webpages on another servers as your web is, because both correlation is 0.25... THX Could anybody expalin me, what does it mean: # of External Links w/ Partial Match Anchor Text http://www.seomoz.org/article/search-ranking-factors#metrics-5 The number of external links and all these external links contain partial match anchor text from my query: (I am finding in Google "tennis" and see in SERP domain www.usta.com. # of External Links w/ Partial Match Anchor Text: tells me the number how many external links contain partial match anchor text "play tennis, tennis school, tennis info..."? )

SEO Test: Domain Hyphenation [Update]
In May I announced test results for domain hyphenation but after a 3 month followup the results have changed and the hyphenated domain now wins on what seems to be the first link instance advantage. I was unable to discover any other factors which may have influenced this test but if anyone has any ideas I would like to hear about it. Here are the details of the SEO test and revealed URLs.
