Wordpress duplicate titles - can't find original title tags
-
I added new code to rewrite the page titles <title><?php wp_title(''); ?></title>
But I can't find the normal title tags in the Header PHP file in editor so I now have duplicate titles tags in the source code
This is the code - can't see what else would be titles? This is the website ...
<title><?php wp_title(''); ?></title>
eFavIcon(); ?>
eCSS(); ?>
enabled('Theme')) { ?>
http://fonts.googleapis.com/css?family=PT+Sans:400,700,400italic,700italic" />

Laura
As mentioned below, I have this theme on an active website now with Yoast running and seem to have it working.
This is the Felis WordPress theme by fireform if anyone else is curious.
Try;
-
removing the extra title tag code you added the header.php
-
select "force rewrite titles" in title settings
Let's see if that does it - I don't recall editing any other code to make it work, but I could be wrong, in which case I'll dig a little more for you.

One quick question first - did you try checking of "force rewrite titles" under title settings in Yoast?
-
Hi Laura
I've used this theme before, so I'm going to look into how I got it to work with Yoast and I'll get back to you here.

Hi Christy,
No - I still have two sets of titles in the source code but only one that I can see in the theme editor.

Hi Laura, has your issue been resolved?
-
Hi Laura,
If I remember correctly (it was a while since I messed around with these things), doesn't wp_title() actually add the <title>tags itself? If so you would just need:</p> <blockquote style="background: none repeat scroll 0% 0% #f7f7f7; padding-top: 5px; margin-left: 0px; padding-left: 2px; padding-bottom: 5px; white-space: nowrap; overflow-y: auto; font-family: monospace;"> <p><meta http-equiv="Content-Type" content="<?php bloginfo('html_type'); ?>; charset=<?php bloginfo('charset'); ?>" /></p> <p><?php wp_title(''); ?></p> <p> <?php sg_header_meta(); ?></p> </blockquote> <p>There is more info here : <a href="http://codex.wordpress.org/Function_Reference/wp_title">http://codex.wordpress.org/Function_Reference/wp_title</a></p> <p>If that doesn't do it, you could always try reversing your changes and use an SEO plugin, like the awesome Yoast Wordpress SEO (<a href="http://wordpress.org/extend/plugins/wordpress-seo/">http://wordpress.org/extend/plugins/wordpress-seo/</a>) which should allow you to change the titles without mucking around with the wordpress code itself.</p> <p>Hope that helps!</p> <p>Stuart</p></title>

Hi Laura,
That would depend on the theme you are using
If you can't find it in the header file you could check the other files
It looks like it's actually the nav bar that's coming on the title

Wordpress Tags and Catagories
I am looking for data in regards to Wordpress and blog tags and categories. Wordpress has these identifies in there tool, but I see them being used less and less. Wordpress also creates annoying pages and duplicate content errors when using tags. Should I remove these tags and categories to improve SEO? I am also wondering if anyone has noticed a difference in user experience and traffic when changing these.

Title Tag issue
Hello, This is a weird one. I am hoping someone can point me in the right direction. A couple months ago, we updated trinitypower.com and it was back then that I first noticed this issue, but because the home page title tag was okay and contained the primary terms for that page, I told myself I would circle back. The problem is that even though Google crawls the site everyday, it does not update the title tag text in it's index. Google: "Trinity Power Rentals" and you will see the title in the index as "Trinity Power: Temporary Power Rentals". Go to trinitypower.com and view source. You will see the title tag in the code as "Temporary Power Rentals - Trinity Power" The desc tag has been updated correctly, but I can't figure out why not the Title tag. You can look at the cache version in the index of Google. It is showing the latest version of that tag, so I really do not understand what has happened here. I am using WP Super Cache... maybe a conflict with that? I have dumped it's cache numerous times though. Please let me know what you think. Thanks, Jarrett

How can I maintain my website's authroity if I change the domain name?
I have 2 sites. Site A is doing well and growing, but has a low Domain Authority. Site B is older, has a higher authority but I want to retire it as the site's topic is well dated. Can I move all of my content on site A, to site B, change site B's name to Site A's name keep its higher authority and add all of the content and 301 redirect from site A to site B? Whew, Thanks for any thoughts, Jeff Strassman

Title tags for deep pages
Just pondering what is current best practice for Title tags of pages buried deep within my website? Say I have a page about 'Cheese's of the world' and from that page there is a page about 'Cheshire Cheese' how would you suggest to structure title tags Would for example this be ok - Cheshire Cheese | Cheese's of the World | Brand name Or is this better - Cheshire Cheese | Brand name Just wondering as I'm redesigning my site currently and looking at everything! Ted PS - I like cheese 🙂

Duplicate Title & Content in WordPress
I'm getting a lot of Crawl Errors due to duplicate content and duplicate title because of category and tag posts in WordPress. I rebuilt the sitemap and said to exclude category and tags, should that clear up the issue? I've also went through and did NO INDEX and NO FOLLOW for all categories and posts. Any thoughts on this issue?
