Can I find out how many of a competitors 25k links are coming from which domains? You can see in the image I uploaded, the first competitior, Suzuki of Wichita, they have 25,000 total links.
-
@Matthew,
It is easy.
Let's say that someone adds a link to your website to their blogroll. That link will be visible on all pages of that website.
Or, maybe they sponsored a theme, and they have a footer link, which, again, is on all pages.
But remember, those links are not natural links and these practices can trigger a Google penalty.
When someone naturally link to you, they mention you in an article, list you as a resource but is not likely to link to you from hundreds of pages.
Nofollow links do not pass link juice. I don't know how they got them, maybe they bought a link, paid for text link advertising, banner ads or so.
-
Hello,
Because I am newish at this...how can they be getting these 850 links from each domain or just from 1 domain?
And can you also explain how they have these links that are nofollow?
-
Hello Matthew,
In OSE you can check out how root domains are linking to that competitor. 25k links, without using some sitewide ads (banners, text links - which should be nofollowed) are not that easy to get.
When you see someone having 50k links from 50 domains, that means that he gets like 1k links from each of those root domains, which is not that good.
As I can tell by analyzing your attachment, they have 25602 links originating from only (!!!) 30 root domains. That is approximately 850 links from a domain.
However, if you take a look at that green circle which is representing the ratio between the dofollow/nofollow links, you can see that 60ish% of their links are nofollowed.
In OSE you can group all their links by domain, you should have like 30 results so you'll know who's linking to them.
-
Ahrefs in my opinion would be the way to go, however, in order to have the full functionality you would need to pay for it. For something like finding out what the linking root domains are you would use this as well. Hope that helps.

I have tried this in Open Site Explorer, looking at the Linking Root Domains and it is only showing 48 there.
I used Ahrefs and it only shows 30 domains.
When I look at the Competitive Domain Analysis Summary, under Root Domain Metrics, it shows they have 25,000 total links? Where is this number coming from?
-
Yea, have you tried using OSE? This shows you the links to your competitors website: the exact page and the domain.
-
Hi Matthew
You should be able to see this in the free version of Ahrefs. You might need to sign up, but it's free initially. Some features are limited, but not the one to check this.
Pop in the domain you want to check, then underneath "domains" click the referring tab.
This will then list all the domains linking to the site and how many backlinks in total are coming from that domain.
You can also do the same if you have a MajesticSEO subscription.
Failing that, you will be able to get all of the data if you export a backlink report of an entire root domain into a CSV file from OpenSiteExplorer. Open up the file, highlight the first row and go to the data tab, then click filter. Once the filters are in, click on drop-down arrow, select "text filters" and then "contains". Now simply type in the domain that you would like to see the total count for. Click OK and highlight the all of the resulting URLs - that's your total!
Hope this helps.

How does a business have a link back where I can't see the anchor text?
So, I'm running competitor websites through Open Site Explorer and following the link from Moz to where their link is coming from. It has the anchor text 'Christmas Gifts'. When I go to that page there is no mention of this anchor text. No mention of that persons website. No display ad's that could be providing that link. How is this link pointing to their page?

How can I find all the outbound links from a website domain?
I want to find all the outbound links (basically whatever comes in tag) from a domain (say www.abc.com) as well as all the subdomains under it (say abc.com/a etc). Open Site Explorer provides the inbound links from a website but does not provide any functionality to get all the outbound links from a website. Is it possible to do? Thanks in advance. Domain name holding pages link back, good or bad?
We are a web design and hosting company http://www.spiralsites.com But when we register domains for clients, or they take email only or a name is parked we have it using a holding page which can be seen as follows: http://www.jcevents.co.uk/ is this a good thing? Bad thing? Could it would it should it benefit our rankings? Should we do more to make it look less like our main site and actually try to use it better to help rank our other services pages?

Does blocking domains help remove bad links?
I have affiliate websites that are harming for one of 2 reasons: 1. They are on adult websites (and I don't want to be in a bad neighborhood) or 2. They are using a Frameset (so their content appears identical to mine and I am getting "credit" for all their junk links) I cannot get these websites to remove our links so I have blocked their IPs on our production firewall. Is this an effective method or should I do something else with these links?

Can No Follow Links Hurt Rankings?
Thanks to sites like SEOmoz and good folks like yourselves I was able to understand enough about SEO to know that the company we outsourced the SEO to were doing at best a sloppy job. I have seen that the link profile of site is totally unnatural in terms of factors such as relevancy and anchor text but also that around 95% of the 800 links are no follow. My question is whether these low quality no follow links causing unnatural anchor text ratios and poor link relevancy would hurt our rankings? I am basically wondering if I have to now go and try to have all those links removed somehow to avoid any problems going forward?

How Are Competitor's With Zero Links (According to SEOmoz) Ranking Highly?
Hey everyone! This is my first post in the community after just signing up for SEOmoz. I've already got a ton of value from this community so I'm looking for to giving back as much as possible. The keyword gets 8000+ monthly searches on Google. Not so many, but the keyword indicates high buying intention. The funny thing is that the top ranking page has 0 backlinks (according to OSE). It seems as though there are some black hat tactics being used, as I doubt that they are ranking solely with on-page optimization. Any idea what's going on? Have you guys/gals seen this before?

Linking domains on same ip
I don't know if i can post a link in the question so if you google 800 appliance and do a little reaserch on them you will see that it has many links with same content linking to the main domain and to each other. They hosted on the same ip which from what i read doesn't supposed to help in ranking. I saw many nich websites like this with the same idea. What am i missing here...?
