Rel Canonical - Could someone please help confirm something?
-
Morning Mozzers,
I'm looking at a site (www.zitan.co.uk) and making a few recommendations for SEO, one of the things I've spotted is something weird with rel canonical. It looks (to me) as if they've got almost every single page set with this tag:
rel="canonical" href="http://www.zitan.co.uk" />
I'm 99% certain that this means that every page on the site (that has this tag) is pointing all link juice / authority back to the homepage?
If someone could please check and just confirm that, I'd really appreciate it.
Thanks in advance,
James

Thanks folks - that's exactly what I was looking for, both much appreciated.
I've dropped their web dev's a quick email now - fingers crossed I get a sensible reply!
Cheers & thanks again

you are 100% correct they have pointed every single one of their pages to their homepage essentially. I look at rel="canonical tell Google what page should have the correct content I have checked your site as requested. Below I've pasted what I found in the source code of their about page. So it should be <link < span="">rel="canonical" href=http://www.zitan.co.uk/aboutus not what you see below </link <>
| "rel="canonical" href="http://www.zitan.co.uk" /> |
| | <title></span>About Zitan<span></title> |"
essentially all you have to do is go through and change the canonical the correct page after this I would go into Google Webmaster resubmit a site map and index with Google.
I hope I was of help you.
Sincerely,

Yes, it looks like they got their canonicals all wrong...
I think google will ignore the canonical tag in this situation. I remember Matt Cutts talking about if you got the canonicals all wrong Google would still index your site.

E-commerce site hit by the latest Panda, please help
Hello mates, Our site is an e-comerce site http://goo.gl/4QBVjR has been hit hard by the latest Panda on the last weekend as many other sites such as Retailmenot etc. We were working hard from one year til now:1. Rewrite all the pages with pour content (less than 100 words), and non-original content.2. The pages where was impossible rewrite the content were 410 gone.3. About the link profile, we were removing all the unnatural links by contacting thewebmaster and finally updating a DISAVOW file at monthly basis. All these tasks were performed and we see some improvements close to the original traffic before 2012Now from the last weekend our traffic down again, so we need to know if we can do anythingor there are something hidden from our eyes.Thank youClaudio

Traffic Down - May Need Outside Help
Hi Moz Community - Our website (www.motivators.com) experienced a small traffic drop in mid-March. This was followed by a steady decline in traffic through May, June and July. Please note that a site redesign went live on April 4th. Starting in mid-July, we began implementing aggressive site improvements (mostly based upon site speed), but our traffic is still down. Can anyone recommend a service or company that can look at our site and determine the root cause / more strategies for improvement? Thanks for your suggestions!

Help! A couple of basic questions on dup. content, pagination and tumblr blogs.
Hi, and many thanks in advance for any assistance. According to our GWMT we currently have over a thousand duplicated title tags and meta descriptions. These stem from tabs that we have located beneath the body copy, which when you click on them display offers or itineraries (we're a travel company). So the URLs change to having "?st=Offer" or "?st=Itinerary" at the end, and are considered to be duplicating the original page's title and meta des. Sometimes the original page is also paginated, and shows the same duplication errors. What would be the best way to ensure we're not duplicating anything? Also, we have a tumblr blog, where there's single page displaying all the blog content, but also links to each blog on a separate individual page. We would like to keep the individual pages as we can optimise to target specific keywords, but want to avoid any duplication issues again. Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

Is Google indexing something I can't see on my page title?
When I do a search for my businesses website (colourpages.com) it returns a listing which is great but the title tag includes Hull Colour Pages which is our old brand name - we changed to colourpages.com 2 years ago yet Hull Colour Pages is still pulling through on the title tag. I have checked the source and it's as follows: <title>Plumbers in Hull - Reviews - colourpages.com</title> I have attached a photo which shows the issue - http://imgur.com/Cva3001 Is Google indexing it from old history that is no longer visible or am I missing something? Experiences with pagination rel=next and prev
I have read about people saying that using the rel next and prev tags did not take any positive effect on their sites... In my case I do not have a typical pagination 1,2,3 but a site about tours in the amazon where each tour-description is divided into a page with an overview, itinerary, Dates & Prices so instead of Site 1,2,3 Buttons I have the Btns: Tour Overview, Itinerary, Prices So as all the of pages belong together I thought the rel=next & prev tags will be useful.

Also I want to avoid duplicate content when the page title of the three is pretty similar. Right now the Title is like this:
Amazon Tour XXX YYYY
Amazon Tour XXX - itinerary
Amazon Tour XXX - prices The description text is more different... Is this the best practice in my case? Thanks for all your opinions! 🙂 best regards,

A long time ago I created a forum (Invision Power Board) and it got full of spam. Massive amounts! /forum/ I've now deleted the forum but the spam pages are still indexed on Google. Can I do something else to hurry up the process to get ride of them?
