Don't reach to make our site back in rankings
-
My URL is: http://tinyurl.com/nslu78
Hi, I really hope someone can help because my site seems to be penalized since last year now.
Because we were not SEO experts but doctors and wanted to do things in a white hat way so we have given our SEO strategy (on-site and off-site) to the best US SEO agencies and now we are penalized.
We was ranking on the 1st page with 15 keywords and now we don't even are in the first 10 pages.
I know that our sector is suspicious but we are a real laboratory and our site is 100% transparent. I understand that a lot of people can think that we are all the same but this is not true, we are not a virtual company that don't even show their name or address, we show name, address, phone number, fax, email, chat service, VAT number everything so please help us.
We have spent 3 months analysing every paragraph of google guidelines to see if we were violating some rule such as hidden text, link schemes, redirections, keyword stuffing, maleware, duplicate content etc.. and found nothing except little things but maybe we are not good enough to find the problem.
In 3 months we have passed from 85 toxic links to 24 and from 750 suspicious links to 300. we have emailed, and call all the webmasters of each site several times to try to delete as many links as possible. We have sent to google a big excel with all our results and attempts to delete those badlinks.
We have then sent a reconsideration request explaining all the things that we have verified on-site and off-site but it seems that it didn't worked because we are still penalized.
I really hope someone can see where the problem is.
thank you -
This is probably the extent of the answer I can give you in Q&A. I would look at when your traffic dropped, and attempt to line that up the Algorithm History. If the date of your traffic drop lines up with a Penguin or Panda date, that's a pretty clear sign. There are some great resources linked to on that same algorithm history to help you.
If you HAVE been hit by Penguin (for the links), it sounds like you're doing all the right things. The process is usually disavow then reconsider, but where you haven't received a message that's probably not necessary. Just keep cleaning and keep working on gaining more legitimate visibility. Do have a look, though, and make sure it's not Panda.

Hi again
We have never bougth links and never done link exhange.
Yes we also seel our own products. That's why i have told you that we have always been ranked better than our own distributors.
During 2010, 2011 and until nov 2012 we have been working with the biggest SEO companies in the US. They were "supposed" to do all white hat seo but I figured out that they did for examples blog posts but on their own blogs. I thought that they were searching blogs related to our niche but they had created blogs and put posts in the same blog for all their customers including me. So the same blog could talked about cars, penis extenders or insurrance etc... It was like 1 or 2 posts per month.
I have cheched the links with a link detox and they can be suspicious someones but none of the toxic ones have been made by them. All the toxic ones are pages that i don't even know, I have never asked them to add a link to my site. I have found as toxic links few forums introduced in discussions between the member but they don't come from us.
They did also article submissions but like 1 article every month and with no more than 1 anchor text and posted 1 one press release website only to not generate duplicate content on the net. So I don't think this can be the problem.
I am not an expert but I have started to become one trying to figure out all what they did. I also think that many bad links have been made by the compentence. Our sector is also hard.
If it is panda I should try to put refresh the content?
thank you

Are you sure it's the links that got you in trouble and not Google Panda?
The more I hear, the more it sounds like you might not be losing rankings based on links at all. Did you actually build/buy the links yourself, or were these natural links that webmasters added on their own? If the links are natural, there's probably no reason to be asking for removal despite what some tool tells you about their toxicity.
It's up to Google to decide which result is the best when it comes to duplicate content. If their signals indicate that your distributor's pages are better for users, they will be more likely to show the distributor. By the way, it's fairly common for sellers to out-rank manufacturers. Unless you sell direct to the consumer, there's no reason you should out-rank the seller for product keywords.
Those manufacturers that do sell direct to consumers often create a product description for themselves, and another that they provide to distributors. I wouldn't expect any success in asking a seller to make their own descriptions.
I'm not sure what you mean by "can Google confuse our sites?" but the answer is probably "no." Being first to publish is one factor, but it's certainly not the only one.

Hi
I have never received a message from Google on WMT neither for the reconsideration request sent at the end of january nor for the disavow file sent at the begining of january after 3 months of work . The file indicated all our huge effort trying to ask for the bad links to be removed. For each link I have sent them the emails sent to the webmasters, their reponse or no reponse.
We have never received a message of unatural backlinks.
(I have received one but it was that another page of another domain was not accessible).
Can it be an issue about similar sites? i tell you that because we have worked a lot asking to our affiliates and distributors to delete the duplicate content that they had copied from our site but despite of this job that we did las autumn maybe google thinks that they are too much sites and he doens't know which is the original one. I am really not sure about this issue because we are the manufaturer so our site is the oldest one (8 or 9 years).
For example there is this site that belongs to one of our distributors: http://tinyurl.com/bu6m769
He started to be well ranked when we have started to go down in SERPs.
Can google confuses our sites?
bye

Hi,
What was Google's response to your reconsideration request? Did you hear back in WMT? Did you use the disavow tool on links you'd tried to have removed?
Sometimes it can take time to get back in the rankings, even when no longer penalized, because your prior rankings were based on bad links.

Thank you for your answer james.
I agree that we can continue to build a good link building strategy and maybe add fresh content to the site but the problem is that If I am not able to find what I am doing wrong I may stay penalized like this forever.
As i said before, we have taken and read one by one all the google guidelines paragraphs to see if we were violating something but I am sure that we are doing things exactly as Google wants so I suppose that the problem is outside the site but can't find where.

It seems like you have done what you can for damage control. Now focus your efforts on publishing high quality content and building links. You need to marginalize the effects of the bad SEO with proactive link building.

How Long To Recover Rankings After Multi-Day Site Outage?
Hi, A site we look after for a client was down for almost 3 days at the start of this month (11th - 14th of May, to be exact). This was caused by my client's failure to verify their domain name in accordance with the new ICANN procedures. The details are unimportant, but it took a long while for them to get their domain name registration contact details validated, hence the outage. Very soon after this down time we noticed that the site has slipped back in the Google rankings for most of the target keywords, sometimes quite considerably. I guess this is Google penalizing this client for their failure to keep their site live. (And they really can't have too many complaints about this, in my opinion). The good news is that the rankings show signs of improving again slightly. However, they have not recovered all the way to where they were before the outage, two weeks ago. My question is this ... do you expect that the site will naturally re-gain the previous excellent rankings without us doing anything? If so, how long do you estimate this could take? On the other hand, if Google typically penalizes this kind of error by 'permanently', is there is anything we can do to help signal to Google that the site deserves to get back up to where is used to be? I am keen to get your thoughts, and especially to hear from anyone who has faced a similar problem in the past. Thanks

Page has a 301 redirect, now we want to move it back to it's original place
Hi - This is the first time I've asked a question! My site, www.turnkeylandlords.co.uk is going through a bit of a redesign (for the 2nd time since it launched in July 2012...) First redesign meant we needed to move a page (https://www.turnkeylandlords.co.uk/about-turnkey-mortgages/conveyancing/) from the root to the 'about-us' section. We implemented a 301 redirect and everything went fine. I found out yesterday that the plan is to move this page (and another one as well, but it's the same issue so no point in sharing the URL) back to the root. What do I do? A new 301? Wouldn't this create a loop? Or just delete the original 301? Thanks in advance, Amelia

Panda or Penquin -Website Fell - Shouldn't this Recover?
On March 23rd our site fell 47% in one day. www.TranslationSoftware4u.com but we still held quite a few #1 to #7 rankings on Google and thought it would just recover. Our top keyword "translation software" was #4 , now we are #19 Over the next week I waited to see if it recovered. We have been online 10+ years and always stayed with white hat. I admit to learning as I go over the years but always felt content was king so I focused on information. I really do not see my site as using spam techniques but maybe I am missing something on the way I have it. March 23rd, major drop -47% On April 2nd I started with SEO MOZ and the Research tools showed we had duplicate content warning. This was from a blog we were trying to start that only had 7 posts but it had about 20 tags per post. I did not realize that tags actually created that post under that tag. I went in and deleted the tags again being stupid and not realizing it was then making that come up 404. The blog was so small we do not get hits on it anyway so hoping it just clears itself up. ( still get duplicate warning on our directory due to using "php Link Directory", but it's due to how it reuses the title tag and description, 2 instances per category page"). Still trying to fix the php directory issue. Seems many others are running it and did not have a drop. April 24th, we dropped another -10% It keeps falling -70% now. I have gone through the site and tried to clean up any warnings like duplicate title tags, meta descriptions. With regards to links I put up a small web directory with some reciprocal linking. Our product translates languages but software is not the same as a human so we often set clients up with human translators, the directory is a nice place to help our customers find a translator or see online tools that can help. The links were not excessive, there were maybe 100 links. After the fall I went in and found some translators had gone out of business so I deleted those, I am down to 65 links now, about 45 are exchanges. I have submitted to some online directories manually, but looking back through the links there is not really anything that makes me concerned. The link back to my site was really the most neglected SEO thing I did. Again concentrating on content. I did find a few links that I was not happy about but I did not put those links so had no control. I have been working on cleaning up my title tags, and making sure the content just reads better. I have been hoping that my site would just start recovering but it keeps sliding. Has anyone seen recovery from the updates. Should I see anything yet? I cannot seem to get Google to return to the site and reindex. Am I doing somethign spammy on my site and I do not realize it? Thanks for any advice in advance!

Page rank and ranking down
Hi I blog at Technostarry. Some 3 months back during page rank update, my page rank went down from 3 to 2. I don't know the reason behind this. And now, my traffic and ranking is also down. I am not involved in any bad SEO practices, I don't copy paste and I write original content. I am too confused as why and what has happened with my site. If someone could analyze my blog and look at my weak points then that would be great. I would like to get any suggestions to get back my ranking and also page rank back. Thanks.

Different version of site for "users" who don't accept cookies considered cloaking?
Hi I've got a client with lots of content that is hidden behind a registration form - if you don't fill it out you can not proceed to the content. As a result it is not being indexed. No surprises there. They are only doing this because they feel it is the best way of capturing email addresses, rather than the fact that they need to "protect" the content. Currently users arriving on the site will be redirected to the form if they have not had a "this user is registered" cookie set previously. If the cookie is set then they aren't redirected and get to see the content. I am considering changing this logic to only redirecting users to the form if they accept cookies but haven't got the "this user is registered cookie". The idea being that search engines would then not be redirected and would index the full site, not the dead end form. From the clients perspective this would mean only very free non-registered visitors would "avoid" the form, yet search engines are arguably not being treated as a special case. So my question is: would this be considered cloaking/put the site at risk in any way? (They would prefer to not go down the First Click Free route as this will lower their email sign-ups.) Thank you!

I just found something weird I can't explain, so maybe you guys can help me out.
I just found something weird I can't explain, so maybe you guys can help me out. In Google http://www.google.nl/#hl=nl&q=internet. The number 3 result is a big telecom provider in the Netherland called Ziggo. The ranking URL is https://www.ziggo.nl/producten/internet/. However if you click on it you'll be directed to https://www.ziggo.nl/#producten/internet/ HttpFox in FF however is not showing any redirects. Just a 200 status code. The URL https://www.ziggo.nl/#producten/internet/ contains a hash, so the canonical URL should be https://www.ziggo.nl/. I can understand that. But why is Google showing the title and description of https://www.ziggo.nl/producten/internet/, when the canonical URL clearly is https://www.ziggo.nl/? Can anyone confirm my guess that Google is using the bulk SEO value (link juice/authority) of the homepage at https://www.ziggo.nl/ because of the hash, but it's using the relevant content of https://www.ziggo.nl/producten/internet/ resulting in a top position for the keyword "internet".
