Link on Every Wordpress Portion of My Site?
-
I have a website that is pretty popular with good SEO rankings. Part of the site is ran with Wordpress (homepage, articles and static content pages), another part is the forums using vBulletin (probably 75-80% of the pages on the site) and I also have a directory using another software.
I have a new website and was going to add a link to it on my older site on the sidebar of Wordpress across all the Wordpress pages. Should I stay away from that or just put it on the homepage? The text is basically "Come check out the new {keyword} site at {SiteTitle}, by the founders of {OldSiteTitle}. I would have the keyword and sitetitle linked over to the new site.
Would I be hurting either site by doing this or should it be looked at as a natural link as I do own both of the sites and want to let people know about the new site.

I'm going to suggest a different alternative: Do both.
That is to say, put the link on the home page as you suggested, but only link either the Site title or the keyword, not both. (And which will be determined by the brand/keyword mix of your overall link profile - don't want to overdo the keyword anchor text.) .
Then also add it to the sidebar, but no-index this sitewide version and only use one link. The second link would be superfluous anyway.
The thinking here is that the home page link is designed to legitimately offer some ranking influence across to the new site. The sidebar links are not designed to (nor would they be effective for) sending link juice, but instead are designed for actual human eyeballs to send referral visitors to the related site. (This is assuming the new site is in some way related to the topic of the original site)
By no-following the site-wide sidebar link, you tell the search engines it's not on every page for manipulative purposes, but because it's potentially of use to the visitor- functioning much like a paid ad would, and protected by the no-follow in the same way..
Best of both worlds - some link juice from the home page link, and hopefully some referral traffic from the sidebar.
Does that make sense?
Paul

Ok, thanks.

Don't put the link on all the pages. Put a link on the home page and on a few on other popular pages on the wordpress site and leave it at that.

No links from Pinterest, wordpress, yahoo, etc.
I'm new to moz and trying to go through some of the tools. I was looking at the link analysis and I had a couple questions I don't see any links from good sites that do show up in my webmaster tools - wordpress, yahoo, pinterest. Just a bunch of spammy sites that I've been trying to shake off for years now and even though we've completely redesigned the entire site they're still there. I have 21 links from my own domain. How do I fix that?

Self linking - loss of link juice?
There are 10 links on page that point to this page where they exist (link to the page itself). Does it influence on ranking? And what's happening to link juice? How does it spread? Is there any loss of it?

Broken Incoming Links from External Site - What to do?
Our Google Webmaster 'page not found' reports consistently show two Chinese websites that have approximately 50 broken links each to non-existent pages on our website. One site is a PR5, the other a PR1. Two of our Chinese employees have contacted the site owners (even talking with them over the phone) to discuss the errors, where the broken links live on their sites, and how to fix them. They have contacted the site owners three times in the past three months, but still the broken links have not be fixed. What do you recommend we do?

A link with "return false"- OSE sees as a No Followed Link
Hello, I couldn't find a clear answer to the impact on SEO for a link written in this way: [" class="expert_info" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;">](w</span>ww.yourwebsite.com<span style=) [Does the "return false" act as a "no follow"? I came across this in our link data in Open Site Explorer which lists these links all as "no follows." However, an engineer I spoke to said that it shouldn't impact search engine behavior. Any ideas? Thank you in advance! -Sarah K.](w</span>ww.yourwebsite.com<span style=)

How do you find out what (and when) new websites are linking to your site?
I may be missing the obvious here, but is there any way (a programme or site) of seeing what new links come into your site? Obviously as anyone who works in SEO, I like to see which links we have got with the work we put in contacting webmasters, etc. But is there a better way than just manually looking through ALL the links? Any help will appreciated.
