Same UI, different domain
-
Hello there. I would like to ask for your opinions.
I have DomainA.com/blog and want to move /blog to its own domain. As of now, the blog section has the exact same UI as the rest of the site, its just a section on our site.
Will it have any negative impact with respect to SEO if DomainA.com and DomainB.com have the exact same UI and are interlinking each other?
Thanks in advanced.

It takes so much work to make domain / web pages rankable that many don't have enough time or energy to spend doing it for two domains so you might as well put your efforts into your money domain. As far as "dominating the front page of Google" for your branded keywords, what do you get out of that that you don't get by keeping the domain on your domain? One additional listing? You could get that and more just by working your social media profiles and or an inexpensive adwords campaign.

Hi Chris,
Why do you advice against this?
Sorry, I just want to see your point of view (and others). Thanks again.
-
Yep. Don't do it.
Keep your blog on your domain. Make you blog better at reaching its audience. Give your audience content that helps them make their buying decisions gives them reason to share it.

I'd like to dominate the front page on Google for my branded keywords. So figure if I have my blog on a separate domain name will allow me to get an additional property on the first page.
Thanks

Mike,
My first question would be why do you want to move the blog?
You won't have any troubles due to the UI--the links may be an issue, though. A few links between the two wouldn't normally be an issue--but the answer may differ based on why you're splitting up the blog and the site.

New website showing old domain titles in search
Hello Moz, We have recently built a new website http://www.hegroup.org.uk/ The new site has the domain for one of the clients old sites pointing to it - heartofmersey.org.uk. When we check the SEO index (site:hegroup.org.uk) for the new site, most of of the indexed items are using the old 'Heart of Mersey' title in the index although these do redirect to the new site. See below. Heart of Mersey <cite class="_Rm">www.hegroup.org.uk/</cite>Jessica Bell · Andrew Bennett · Nicola Calder · Matt Donnelly · Alexandra Holt · Robin Ireland · Magdalena Kolka · Alison Gradwell · Matthew Philpott · Trustees. Not sure how to resolve this issue. Any suggestions Thanks Ian

What's the best SEO tactics when you have a dedicated web address pointing to a page on a different site?
Hope someone can help with a question I've got about sorting out some duplicate content issues. To simplify the question, imagine there is a website a.com which has a page a.com/newslettersignup. In addition to the a.com domain, there is also a different web address, ashortcut.com, which points to a.com/newslettersignup. ashortcut.com is the web address that is advertised in marketing material etc. So what is the best way then to tell Google etc. that ashortcut.com is the preferred URL for the page which sits at a.com/newslettersignup? The advice I've read about the canonical tag, for example, doesn't cover this exact scenario so although it can support cross-domain information, I'm not sure if that's the best route to follow. Thanks!

How do you check if press release images are different enough?
We're helping a Sydney blog called Happy develop their local following and we're starting by ensuring their posts are optimized. They're doing a great job with reviews and content but the one thing we noticed is that all the images they use (because they review music) are from bands and artists that are used tens if not hundreds of times in other places. We're trying to set up a simple way for them to tweak these images to ensure they're crawled and seen as original. Anyone had to deal with this and found a solution that makes sense?

Transfer Blog From External Domain
Hi All I am in stages of transferring a blog. We currently have partial manual penalty for unnatural links, and we received sample links of our own blog, which happened to be originally setup on another domain. e.g. example.co.uk and the blogs hosted on exampleblog.co.uk - the only way these were linked were through anchor text in each and every blog - so it's clear why this has been picked up. We are now going to transfer these across to our actual domain. Around 60% of the blogs had no meat, so we have pruned through these. What is the best solution; Redirecting ONLY the good blogs via 301 Redirect and 404 pages with no meat OR Redirecting ONLY the good blogs via 301 Redirect the others to Example.co.uk/Blogs Thanks Tom

CcTLDs Differences Between Each Other
Hi, this is a simple question, many ccTLD look like this: .com.es .es .org.es 1.What is the difference from one another regarding SEO? 2.Does the .com.es has any advantage? Like targeting the "world" and "Spain" 3.Is there one better than other? 4.Will a .com.es or any other domain like that be able to rank globally? or just in Spain? Thanks!

Why does SEOmoz use /blog/content-title vs /category/content-title? Any difference?
Assume a brand new blog being designed and all other things equal. What are the pros & cons between using the url structure /blog/content-title vs. /category/content-title? Note:

301 redirect (www.domain.com/index to www.domain.com)
Hello, Please let me know what are the exact right steps in order to get rid of the duplicate content issues related with: www.domain.com/index.html same as www.domain.com without creating an infinite loop. Do you have a step by step guide posted within seomoz including 301 redirect for non www to www for all urls and index.whatever to main domain name without going into a infinite loop ? btw how to you spot the loop ? is it obvious like never ending refresh of the home page ? thanks a lot !
