Keywords in Google Local results
-
We have a client in the moving business and I'm absolutely flabbergasted by the "local" results and the number of them that are not following Google's guidelines for Google Local accounts. 3 of them are using exact match keyword strings as their company names. I've reported all 3, every week for the last 2 months and have not seen a single dip in the rankings. Meanwhile our client has a duplicate listing we've verified and "suspended" and it hasn't changed for 4 months!
Any tips? I've attached a photo of the listings as well.

Sounds like an a-ha moment to me, Jeff! Good find, and keep digging. It's amazing how many times a piece of data can be duplicated on the web. Citation cleanup is not a favorite job of mine, but it is worth the effort.

Voila! Thank you!
I found the old website on the Better Business Bureau, which has a DA of 96! No wonder it keeps pulling it back up. Thanks again. I'll ask them to switch it and we'll hope for the best.

Hi Jeff,
So your client's profile's duplicate listing has a different website address than the authoritative listing? My advice is the same to follow the steps I've outlined and see what happens. Patience is a big virtue in Local. But, I will add to this...you are going to need to back this up with a citation cleanup campaign if there are other local business listings out there with your client's old website listed on them. You need to clean up the whole Internet record for the client in a case like this, or there is a chance that your Google+ Local listing will revert to old/bad data because of the way data feeds from one source to another. Thought I would mention.

Thank you Miriam!
We've tried reporting all the violating listings but haven't reported in the Google forum. I'll give that a try.
We did "report a problem" on the duplicate listing, but not on both. Just the listing that we want taken down with a redirecting website address. Maybe because the website address is different it will take longer, or is the proper protocol to report both and cross your fingers they take the right one down?

Hi Jeff,
While I can't produce the exact results you are seeing in Canada, I am seeing some of the same things you are. Interestingly, the title of the result that says 'Two Small Men' isn't stemming from the Google+ Local page if you click through, and it also isn't stemming from the title tag of the home page. Wonder if there is a duplicate listing? On the one with (Moving Company) in parentheses, yes, that's a pretty clear violation. I understand how frustrating it is to have competitors getting away with violations. It's just like this in Local. Businesses can get away with intentional and accidental violations for months or years before Google takes notice and hammers down. You might consider reporting that your cities results are full of spam on the Google and Your Business Forum (http://productforums.google.com/forum/#!forum/business). It might help, but I wouldn't count on it, unfortunately.
Regarding your duplicate, did you first use the 'report a problem' link on the duplicate listings? If so your next step would be to use this troubleshooter, which is the best way to seek resolution:
http://support.google.com/places/bin/static.py?hl=en&ts=1386120&page=ts.cs
If you've not tried this yet, give it a try.

What to do with internal spam url's google indexed?
I am in SEO for years but never met this problem. I have client who's web page was hacked and there was posted many, hundreds of links, These links has been indexed by google. Actually these links are not in comments but normal external urls's. See picture. What is the best way to remove them? use google disavow tool or just redirect them to some page? The web page is new, but ranks good on google and has domain authority 24. I think that these spam url's improved rankings too 🙂 What would be the best strategy to solve this. Thanks. k9Bviox

Link with Anchor to header of the page: Keyword is ranking
I saw something interesting this week. I am doing research and spec-ing out a content page we are creating and one of our competitors "office Depot" on their phone repair page create exact match keywords that lead to an anchor that took you to the header of that pages. They were ranking first for all of those keywords with little to no links Thier strategy is the more local long tail that includes "near me" Have you guys ever seen this

this is the URL: https://www.officedepot.com/a/content/customer-service/samedayrepair/ They are ranking for these keywords ( Top 3 nationally ) iphone 6 repair near me iphone 7 repair near me I am assuming that this is both due to their PA and DA authority shifting the authority to itself, but it does not make sense how they are lacking in a lot of SEO low-hanging fruits like H1/H2 keyword saturation, URL, Title Tag within this content page....Anyone up for discussing this?0 -
Google suddenly stops ranking a page for a "keyword" with same "keyword" in title tag. Low competition.
Hi all, We have released our next version of product called like "software 11", which have thousands of searches every month. So we have just added this same keyword "software 11" as page title suffix to one of the top ranking pages. Obviously this is the page has been added suddenly with "software 11" at page title, multiple header tags and 1 mention in paragraph. Google ranked it for 2 days and suddenly stopped showing this page in entire results for the same keyword we optimised the page for. Why does it happened? Does Google think that we are overdoing with this page and ignoring it? Thanks

How Important is it to Use Keywords in the URL
I wanted to know how important this measure is on rankings. For example if I have pages named "chair.html" or "sofa.html" and I wanted to rank for the term seagrass chair or rattan sofa.. Should I start creating new pages with the targeted keywords "seagrass-chair.html" and just copy everything from the old page to the new and setup the 301 redirects?? Will this hurt my SEO rankings in the short term? I have over 40 pages I would have to rename and redirect if doing so would really help in the long run. Appreciate your input.

Has my site been penalized by google
Hi all I have noticed a sudden drop in rankings for most of my keywords on kerryblu ,co,uk and was thinking the site may have been manually penalized by google. I have not received any notification of this in webmaster tools but can't think of any other reason for the loss of rankings. I have searched the web for info on this but can't find a definite answer. Is there any way of knowing for sure. At the time of the crash the only real change I made was adding google adsense to my blog. Could this be responsible. Thanks for looking.

Is this website being punished by Google?
Hi, I just took over the SEO for a friend of mine's website. Is this website being punished by Google? It has a strong link score, the homepage needs work as far as Key wording goes but it does not appear in Google's top 100 for any keyword. I am not sure that the last SEO company did some harm. Can anyone give me some tips on getting my friend back into the mix? www.wallybuysell.com
