Do you recommend Yahoo Local Search registration?
-
I just wanted to check if you guys recommend Yahoo Local Search registration for SEO purposes. Is it worthwhile to pay £300? What's your view?
Thanks

Hi Sida,
If you wish to go beyond the free basic Yahoo Local listing, you can get an enhanced listing for about $10/month in the U.S. I am not being shown UK rates, but here is the page I'm looking at:
http://beta.listings.local.yahoo.com/comp.php
Honestly, unless you have money to burn (and few small businesses do), paying the amount you've specified may not be a good investment unless your company has proof that your customers are heavy users of Yahoo! Local. There are countries where something like YP is so dominant that paying for inclusion may be worth it, because they are literally one of the only strong indexes in 'town', but this is probably not the case in the UK.

Thanks Chris,I've received a proposal from an agency offering Yahoo Local registration for different keywords and the cost of £300 is not for a year but for 6m. If it doesn't give any value from SEO then there is no point to go into it

Thanks Paddy, I hear the same thing and i can't decide whether i should go for it or not but i probably won't go ahead now
Thanks

Considering it's not actually £300, it's £300 per year, or, at least it used to be, I don't believe there's value in it. Since the Mid 2000's, I've felt that Yahoo has traded on it's name as far as that service goes, not on the actual value that it provides its customers. Don't expect much in the way of visitor traffic from the listing and don't expect much algorithmic value from it.

I think its really depends on you website and budget. Some people say its worth it others say its not. Some get direct traffic from it, but I think most do not (from my own experience I got no direct traffic from it).
I'm not going to say you should not get it, but for my own point of view I have no plans currently to get it for my own site

Not sure about reputable direcotries like Yahoo
Hey guys, Here's the deal. I know that Google is fighting private blog netowrks and directories. That said, does it also mean that it does not make any sense to buy listings on directories like dir.yahoo.com ? Thanks in advance.

To know effect on our Website rank in Google Search results
Ours is Property Advertising Company. And we have agents and consultants working from other areas in providing property for advertising in our website. So we collect all the data (5000 data nearly) and upload in one stretch directly to our database. I would like to know whether this process will affect our ranking in google search results because when we upload 5000 data, the links in our website also increases.

Unable to build google local listings, are citations still useful?
Hello Google seems to be unhappy about letting us build google local profiles around our 'virtual locations, for each of which we have a dedicated page. We have approximately 100 'virtual locations' with addresses. I was wondering if, despite not being able to build google local profiles, it would still be worth it to build yahoo, bing, and utilize citation building services to each of those virtual locations. Would these citations in any way help bing or yahoo rank higher locally? Would the locally optimized city page rank higher as a result of all these citations? This is a service-industry based website btw.

Press Releases - Local NY Law Firm
I have a client with a simple bankruptcy website. If I were to write a press for him using prweb or prnewswire, what are the types of topics I can write about that will allow the content to be picked up by newsoutlets and potential go viral? Also, should I have multiple anchor texts linking back to my client's website in the press release or just one? Are there other ways to get credit for the press release outside of creating anchor texts int he write-up itself?

Local SEO: Citation Consistency
My company manages local SEO campaigns for local-service SMBs (e.g. plumbers, dentists). One of the things we do is claim and manage directory listings. To provide trackable results, we apply tracking phone numbers to the directory listings, but those phone numbers don't match the phone number listed on the client's site. So we have a problem from a citation consistency standpoint. On the one hand, we'd like everything to be consistent -- business name, address and phone number -- to achieve citation consistency. On the other hand, we want to prove the value of what we're doing by showing the client data from tracked phone calls. Can we provide best-practice Local SEO and Maps Optimization - and achieve citation consistency - even if we're introducing inconsistency by using tracking numbers?

Yahoo Directory - Which Category?
I'm submitting a law firm's site to the Yahoo paid directory. The location of the firm is in a suburb of the large city for that region, and that suburb is so small that there is no option for it under Cities. Obviously, the client wants to target the large city, not the suburb they're located in. Wondering if it's OK to submit the site to Yahoo under the category of the large city if the business is not technically located in that city. The address is clearly listed in the footer and on the contact page. Might Yahoo reject the submission for that, or will their editors realize there's no listing for the suburb and allow it?

Yahoo Directory Question
I'm working on building some links for a used car store and thinking about submitting a site to the Yahoo Directory. The page that I want to rank for this category is not the homepage of the site (as the store also sells new vehicles), so I'm curious if anyone knows if I can submit a specific page instead? If not, how does the idea sound of creating a separate domain that 301 redirects to my page of choice and submit that to the directory? EDIT: Found this in the Yahoo TOS: "The site may not appear in the Directory under a different URL." "The site must not be dedicated to directing the user to another page." Hm. Any ideas? Should I just submit the homepage?

Can Anyone Recommend A Good Company For Linkbait Campaign (via infographic)
Hi, I have a website that I am going completely whitehat with. I am looking for some recommendations on companies who can prepare and execute a proper linkbait campaign. I am specifically thinking about using infogrpahics for the link bait. I would like to work with someone who can come up with the concept, design it and also help promote it. Thanks
