Infinite Scrolling Long Lists and SEO
-
Just curious if anyone else has tried this. I have pages with words that link to definitions. I have A LOT of them on a page and I am starting the process of trying to either do pagination (which I cant stand) or even cooler infinite scrolling where the page loads more words as the user scrolls.
Good Bad for SEO?

Infinite scroll may be useful for users, because they don't need to click click and click.
From an SEO point of view, yes it may be a problem if you don't set it up correctly.
Adam Sherk wrote a magnificent post about how to correctly set from an SEO point of view the use of infinite scrolling:
http://www.adamsherk.com/seo/seo-tips-for-infinite-scrolling
From a page performance point of view, I also suggest you to use - sorry I cannot remember the correct naming right now - that function that "retard" the upload of the content until it is now visible by the user due to the scroll down itself.
That way you are not uploading all the content of the page at the same time but just when it is really needed by the user.

Why not have the infinite scroll, but always have a link that goes to Page 2. That way the bot can crawl to Page 2 and then get a traditional layout and find the additional content and a user could click the Page 2 link and get into that mode as well.
May also want to consider that the infinite pagination is on sections that you keep the bots out of using robots.txt and then leave the pagination option open to the bots.
We do this for site search and if there are any sort options of a basic paginated version of the pages. Once the user does a search and/or tries to re sort a paginated layout, we push them to a /search/ url with parameters and then hide that with robots.
Another variation is to use a hash off the paginated page to let the variables be passed while keeping the base URL the same.
Rand has a really nice WB Friday on this - really neat trick - it is from 2009 but it is still relevant

Sorry about that didn't mean to get off topic.
Hope everything goes well with the new website.
All best,

Nope that wasn't me

I think unfortunately pagination would be by far the best tactic.
Not only would Google bot failed to keep crawling and less the domain already had extremely high page rank but you would unfortunately have a real lot of trouble getting people to where they want to be if they're navigating your website.
If I may ask did you also have the question regarding Penguin and panda URLs?
all the best,
Tom

Yeah I was reading about it and its because since not all the content loads for the Googlebot it is going to miss stuff...ugh

Is using a H1 tag in a logo image bad for SEO?
We have brand logos on certain pages that have H1 tags in them - the H1 text being the brand's name, as this is what we'd want the title of the page to be. The logos are at the top of the page instead of a written title. But is this the best option for SEO? Do search engines value H1 tags in images as highly as a standard H1 tag?Would it be better for SEO to add an alt tag to the logo and add a separate H1 tag on the page that's also the name of the brand?

Tags - Good or bad for SEO
We are getting Moz errors for duplicate content because tag pages share the same blog posts. Is there any way to fix this? Are these errors bad for SEO, or can I simply disregard these and ignore them? We are also getting Moz errors for missing descriptions on tag pages. I am unsure how to fix these errors, as we do not actually have pages for these on our WordPress site where we are able to put in a description. I have heard that having tags can be good for SEO? (We don't mind having several links that show up when searching for us on google...) As far as the SEO goes, I am not sure what to do. Does anyone know the best strategy?

SEO and auto login with redirect
Hi, we have a site where user we know (cookie-based) is automatic redirected to private internal page. Unknown guests are staying on the page google search sent them. The redirect is done with a 302 to the private page. When I examine organic search and landing pages in analytics I see that more than 50% of the landing pages are private pages (inaccessible for the google-bot). This is because analytics does not register the redirecting page, just the target page. Is this harmful to SEO that so many users are redirected to other pages, or is this data not available to google-bot. The google bots is not redirect since they do not have the correct credentials. Do chrome or analytics send such data back to Google search? Is better to manipulate analytics page track call to use the address of the redirecting page? Or maybe skip to redirect, and just render the private content on the orginal page?

Does this mean each page does not have its title , or metatags?, Is this bad for seo?. Many of these pages have only a paragraph of text. I also am making a sitemap which links to the pages as a normal page. Would this mean I have a duplicate content issue with seo?.0 -

Hello - I'm looking for one tool that does the following and was wondering if anyone knew of such a tool? In a perfect world I would like to enter in one domain name and have a report generated that shows All Internal links, link titles, and anchor text All internal broken links / redirects All images, image size and image alt, if the image alt is missing. I'd love to be about to export these reports to excel and quickly run my on page optimization. The goal is to produce a checklist for a developer to execute quickly. Thanks for your help Gabe

Lists of Product Links: What is good, what is bad?
I am a web designer but a bit of an SEO noob (trying to get better at both). I am working with one particular client on a site I inherited with existing structure. This client has about 10 products on 2 pages. On every page there is a product list that is basically the same list sorted in 2 ways: 1st by product, 2nd by usage. These all link to internal anchors so this might be an example on www.site.com Cleaner X1 - links to www.site.com/cleaners.php#x1

Cleaner X2 - links to www.site.com/cleaners.php#x2
Cleaner X3 - links to www.site.com/cleaners.php#x3
...
Cleaner For Brick - links to www.site.com/cleaners.php#x1
Cleaner For Marble - links to www.site.com/cleaners.php#x2
Cleaner For Stone - links to www.site.com/cleaners.php#x3 Obviously this adds about 20 links on every page on the site (including the actual pages these products are on). What are your thoughts on this? Good idea or bad to have on the site? Should I remove the redundant links on the actual page that product falls on...or is this bad and should be removed altogether?0 -
