Accordion Fold Ups Bad For Google

Right now I have these accordion things on the website. Are they bad for google in terms of being an SEO best practice? I want to avoid doing anything black hat.
Thanks!

Great responses, everyone. Thanks! What did you decided to do, OOMDO?

Interesting. Thanks for sharing that.

I was originally using on-page anchor links like this...
In my opinion these are some of the most powerful on-page optimization elements that you can use, ranking just below the title tag in their effectiveness. Perhaps removing them caused the rankings drop and putting them back caused the rankings recovery?
-
As far as the user experience goes I think you're right. I've seen some horrible examples and personally I'd avoid using them. I think you have to ask yourself what the actual benefit to the visitor is and be realistic about your answer.
The quicker you can get the information the visitor is looking for in front of them the better.
Even if you think it's the way to go It's definably worth testing to make sure you're not throwing away conversions and killing your visitor engagement.
I'm not sure how it would harm your long tail after all, the content is still there and indexed?
-
I stopped using these types of pages.
In my opinion my long tail traffic suffered and visitor engagement dropped.
Same content before and after...
This was not an extensive text. Just a few pages. But I am not using them anymore. Instead I am going to build bigass pages, which any noob will know how to use... and will appear more content rich to people who visit.

You shouldn't have a problem. Google will be able to index the page just fine. Using Javascript and CSS to hide/reveal content like this is not a problem.
If you do have concerns that google might not be able to see part of a page you can always used the fetch as googlebot option in Google Webmaster Tools. (it's under Health), Once the page has been fetched you can click on the Fetch Status (normally "Success") and see the html that google saw.
In this specific case it's really not a problem for Google.
-
Probably nothing to worry about (Google will index content in hidden divs). The first post was just a rule of thumb.
Can any other mozzer's chime in?

Okay here's a page in question that we're working on. The first one uses the hidden text div. If we view it with Javascript turned off the div does not uncollapse and they can't see the content. Is this really that big of an issue?
-
I wouldn't consider the accordion good or bad for SEO. It's just a way of displaying your product information and has more to do with creating an organized and user friendly product list.
When Google crawls your site, all it sees is a page with your products listed and a description, not the actual accordion.
I see no problem with it as long as it's good relevant content like your product list is.
-
A good rule of thumb is if you can see all the "hidden" content if Javascript is turned off you are basically safe.

What website changes (technical) SEOs can ignore confidently? Google's perspective!
Hi community members, I am looking after SEO at our company and there are lots of changes happening about our website; especially technical changes. It's hard for me to look after every deployment of the website like change of server location, etc. We generally agree that every change related to website must be notified by SEO to understand the ranking fluctuation and how search engines welcome them. I just wonder what technical deployments of a website I could confidently ignore to save time and give a go ahead to technical team without interrupting or waiting for my approval. Thanks

Google Search Console Block
Am new to SEO. My clients site was completed using Yoast premium and then used Google search console to initiate the crawl. Initially setup an http:// property and all seemed good. Then i removed that under search console an created an https:// did the render and it appears google has put a block and placed their own robots.txt file which basically has rendered the site useless. Feedback most appreciated.

No cache meta tags - does it help Google get back and reindex faster?
I saw these meta tags on a site and am trying to figure out their benefit. These meta tags are on the home page, product pages, every page of the site. Will it cause search engine bots to come back and index pages faster? Will it cause slower page loading in browsers if nothing is cached? http-equiv="pragma" content="no-cache"/> http-equiv="cache-control" content="no-cache,no-store,must-revalidate"/> http-equiv="expires" content="0"/>

Does Google count the domain name in its 115-character "ideal" URL length?
I've been following various threads having to do with URL length and Google's happiness therewith and have yet to find an answer to the question posed in the title. Some answers and discussions have come close, but none I've found have addressed this with any specificity. Here are four hypothetical URLs of varying lengths and configurations: EXAMPLE ONE:

All I've been able to garner thus far is that URLs should be as short as possible while still containing and contextualizing keywords. I have 500+ URLs to review for the company I work for and could use some guidance; yes, I know I should test, but testing is problematical to the extreme; I look to the collective/accumulated wisdom of the MOZVerse for help. Does Google have problem crawling ssl sites?
We have a site that was ranking well and recently dropped in traffic and ranking. The whole site is https and and not just the shopping pages. Thats the way the server is setup, they make whole site https. My manager thinks the drop in ranking is due to google not crawling https. I think contrary, but would like some feedback on this. Site is here

Given the lastest Google update, should I rewrite my Flash site or try to present an alternative HTML/CSS site?
I have a site that was created using Flash. The reasoning behind this was, at the time, that I didn't care if the site ranked or not (portfolio site). Now I would like to drive traffic to the site from SE's. Given the Penguin update, should I rewrite my Flash site in HTML/CSS or present an alternative site for bots and browsers that don't support Flash? My concern is that by presenting an alternative site to bots and non Flash supporting browsers that the SE's will see potentially see this as cloaking. Thoughts and advice would be much appreciated.

I know frames aren't good, but are they bad?
About 3/4 of my website includes frames from the Amazon aStore, but the pages also have at least 500 words of content on them each. I understand that spiders aren't too good with frames but will search engines punish my site for having them or just disregard them? Thanks in advance.
