Duplicate Content only an Issue on a Huge Scale?
-
To what extent is duplicate content an issue? We have a support forum with some duplicate content because users ask the same questions. The Moz reports we receive highlights our duplicate content and page title for our support forum as a "big" issue.
I'm unsure to what extent it harms our SEO, and making the support section non-crawable would impair our level of support. It would be nice to know for sure if we should be concerned about this, and if yes, how can we do it differently?
Thanks, I appreciate you help.

Hi Allan,
This is a typical issue with most of the forums out there and there is nothing that you should be worried about and leave it to the search engines to handle it. Moreover, the duplicate content itself cannot harm you or fetch you a penalty from a search engine like Google. Its the intent behind that causes the actual harm and potentially more dangerous.
Having that said, it does not mean you should engage in content duplication and think you are safe. You should stay away from any or all the deliberate or intentional content duplication with an intent to manipulate rankings. Content duplication when it comes to forums is very common thing and search engines are sensible enough in this regard.
Here is what Google has to say in this regard:
"Duplicate content on a site is not grounds for action on that site unless it appears that the intent of the duplicate content is to be deceptive and manipulate search engine results."

Hope that helps.
Best regards,
Devanur Rafi.

I'm not certain that this kind of duplicate content harms your SEO, but I can tell you what my company did to mitigate this kind of duplicate questions.
We merged threads When questions are exactly the same, we just merge them into one thread. There's no point in having multiple threads when the answer is going to be the same, and having multiple answers in one thread is much more helpful to whoever needs this information in the future
We pre-empted the question with a support or FAQ page
This ended up being a huge part of our help page strategy. When we noticed that people were asking the same question several times, we we would create a new support page with in-depth answers to solve that problem, and suggest that users read this related page before posting their questionWe got rid of the forum... Right now, we don't have a public help forum (though this is something we'll likely open up again in the future, when we have more eyes to dedicate to monitoring the forum!), so what we ended up with is a bunch of in-depth help articles, as well as close monitoring of which popular search strings are not turning up good results, and which questions are popping up very frequently in our support queue.
I hope someone else can come along and answer the duplicate content part of your question, because I would love to know as well!

Duplicate Content with ?Page ID's in WordPress
Hi there, I'm trying to figure out the best way to solve a duplicate content problem that I have due to Page ID's that WordPress automatically assigns to pages. I know that in order for me to resolve this I have to use canonical urls but the problem for me is I can't figure out the URL structure. Moz is showing me thousands of duplicate content errors that are mostly related to Page IDs For example, this is how a page's url should look like on my site Moz is telling me there are 50 duplicate content errors for this page. The page ID for this page is 82 so the duplicate content errors appear as follows and so on. For 47 more pages. The problem repeats itself with other pages as well. My permalinks are set to "Post Name" so I know that's not an issue. What can I do to resolve this? How can I use canonical URLs to solve this problem. Any help will be greatly appreciated.

Duplicate Content on Event Pages
My client has a pretty popular service of event listings and, in hope of gathering more events, they opened up the platform to allow users to add events. This works really well for them and they are able to garner a lot more events this way. The major problem I'm finding is that many event coordinators and site owners will take the copy from their website and copy and paste it, duplicating a lot of the content. We have editor picks that contain a lot of unique content but the duplicate content scares me. It hasn't hurt our page ranking (we have a page ranking of 7) but I'm wondering if this is something that we should address. We don't have the manpower to eliminate all the duplication but if we cut down the duplication would we experience a significant advantage over people posting the same event?

How to get rid of those duplicate pages
Hi eveyone Just got my first diagnostics report and i got 220 duplicate page titles and 217 duplicate content pages. I know why this has happened it is because i did play about a bit and did originally have:- www.mydomainname.com/index.php/alpha Then i change the page path to:- www.mydomainname.com/alpha Then i change the page path to:- www.mydomainname.com/category/alpha So now when i get crawled i have 3x duplicate page titles, descriptions and page content. Even when i have put 301 redirects to my preferred domain path. Which is hurting my seo, right? How do i stop theold domains from giving me these bad reports? The site is on Joomla Thanks guys Oujipickle

Should H1s be used in the logo? If they are and it is dynamic on each page to relate to the page content, is this detrimental to the site rather than having it in the page content?
On some sites, the H1 is contained within the logo and remains consistent throughout the site (i.e. the company name is in the of the logo). If the h1 in a logo is dynamic for each page (i.e. on the homepage it is company name - homepage) is this better or worse to have it changed out on the logo rather than having it in the page content?
