Is www. still important?

How important is the www in front of a domain name nowadays?
We redesign a lot of sites and we want to focus on best practices - is it still important to include the www or redirect to shorter (non-www) url?
-
I think it is for one reason people type it in when they type a link there used to it SO if there linking to you it will go right to the www. 200 code & not 301 if you pick www.
But if its a long domain I like to drop the www.
Use what you like I like using www. it's matter of choice
Rember to 301 your domain
All the best,
Thomas

It's always been just a usability thing. If your domain name is memorable, people tend to type in the www. automatically when trying to navigate directly. However, this is changing over time, and as you can see with Moz.com, no WWW, it clearly isn't a big deal

In one of the previous opened discussions the solution given was: you'd update the server level rule to point directly to the end URL form.
Re: 301 Redirect chain Are there any tutorials or resources available to help me properly implement this solution and resolve this issue? Tags: 301 Redirects, HTTPS, WWW, Server Level Rule, Redirect Chain Any tutorials how to do it properly to resolve this issue ?0 -
Old web pages with link juice - still live, but not in nav tree
We have monthly newsletters posted on our website. We want to keep only 2 years (2013-2014) posted - http://www.nuxeo.com/en/about/newsletter. All of the newsletters from 2011 and 2012 have good link juice, though. They are still live on the site - http://www.nuxeo.com/en/about/newsletter/december-2012 - but they are not listed on the main Newsletter page, so you would need the direct URL to find it. Will Google punish us for this? Is this a good way to keep our link juice? Thanks.

What is the best way to manage industry required duplicate Important Safety Information (ISI) content on every page of a site?
Hello SEOmozzer! I have recently joined a large pharmaceutical marketing company as our head SEO guru, and I've encountered a duplicate content related issue here that I'd like some help on. Because there is so much red tape in the pharmaceutical industry, there are A LOT of limitations on website content, medication and drug claims, etc. Because of this, it is required to have Important Safety Information (ISI) clearly stated on every page of the client's website (including the homepage). The information is generally pretty lengthy, and in some cases is longer than the non-ISI content on each page. Here is an example: http://www.xifaxan.com/ All content under the ISI header is required on each page. My questions are: How will this duplicated content on each page affect our on-page optimization scores in the eyes of search engines? Is Google seeing this simply as duplicated content on every page, or are they "smart" enough to understand that because it is a drug website, this is industry standard (and required)? Aside from creating more meaty, non-ISI content for the site, are there any other suggestions you have for handling this potentially harmful SEO situation? And in case you were going to suggest it, we cannot simply have an image of the content, as it may not be visible by all internet users. We've already looked into that 😉 Thanks in advance! Dylan

Do you have a step by step guide posted within seomoz including 301 redirect for non www to www for all urls and index.whatever to main domain name without going into a infinite loop ? btw how to you spot the loop ? is it obvious like never ending refresh of the home page ? thanks a lot !
