Researching where your brand is mentioned in Social Media
-
Greetings from Hot & sweaty Wetherby
Ok imagine you want to launcg a socaila media campiagn for a client but before you jump into creating a facebook business page you decide to do some research first ie youw want to know if & where you brand is being discussed. So my question is:
"What social media tool can you use to identify which social media platforms (Twitter, Facebook etc) is being used to discuss a brand"
Thanks in advance,
David -
If you an agency and can allow Sprout Social to access their social profiles, then you can just setup another group under Settings > Users & Groups. But grouping is only available in Standard, Deluxe, and Premium plans.
If you do not have access to social profiles, you "could" just add the other three brand names to your keywords and it would essentially search for your initial brand + the three others. The reporting may get a little messy, but you could easily filter things out by checking/un-checking the keyword(s).

Ive Just jumped through the subscription hoops for both Hootsuite & Sprout Social. Ive noticed they just ask for 1 account to monitor but i want to research another clients social chatter. So my question is:
"Do you have to pay extra to monitor say three brands?"
Grazie -
Thank you for all your replies, now i a actually do some research before jumping in!
Grazie tanto,

Hootesuite is another option. They have a free trial version.

Hi David,
I am actually in the same process, except in-house. I am currently looking at:
- SocialBro
- Mention
- Vocus (mainly bc we are already using this for other PR)
- Sprout Social
In my opinion, Mention and Sprout Social are definitely the best out of the 4 I listed. They are extremely easy to use and configure.
Both have free trials, which I'd recommend you check out to make sure that it suites your needs.
If I had to pick, I'd probably choose Social Sprout (and I "think" Moz actually uses Social Sprout come to think of what I heard previously). It gives you great information and the weekly summary reports are pretty awesome.
I'd recommend a trial before jumping into anything. Or do what I did... set up 4 trials at the same time and compare your findings across the different software.
Hope this helps.
Good luck,
Mike

Yoast Social Accounts URL Section
Hi When you click: Social within Yoast plugin it defaults to 'Account' tab and displays a list of fields to enter your social media account urls. Sentence above list says: "To inform Google about your social profiles, we need to know their URLs. For each, pick the main account associated with this site and please enter them below" What does that mean exactly and does it effect links on the site etc or literally is just Yoast telling G ? Also if you have sub sites for different language versions (WP on Multi User setup), which in turn have their own language specific social media account versions , should you enter those urls in the sub site language version own Yoast plugin fields OR , as per "...pick the main account associated with this site and please enter them below" use the primary social account and not the language specific social account or just leave them blank ? Many Thanks Dan

Remove Social Side Bar?
We recently had a site-redesign and since have lost traffic. We’re currently trying to clean up our code and improve site speed (which we know has become a very big problem). One of the things we tested was removing the social side bar. With that gone, our page speed, file size and requests to the page all improved greatly. And other than the homepage, we don’t see a lot of action on the social side bar with our internal category and subcategory pages. With side bar: http://www.motivators.com/ Without: http://www.motivators.com/Trade-Show-Giveaways.html We resubmitted the Trade Show Giveaways page to Google Webaster Tools yesterday and saw a 22-spot jump in ranking by this morning! Given the circumstances, would it be unwise for us to remove that social side bar? Would it hurt us to lose those signals in the long run despite the overnight jump? Which is the lesser of two evils?

Do i direct traffic to all social platforms or not?
Hi ...I have a brand that is very strong socially..specifically facebook and twitter and this is where we have directed all strategy and traffic. We recently wanted to establish a presence on google+ and have done so. My feeling at this point is to maintain a presence on google+ but only direct social traffic to facebook and twitter from the brands website....so we can keep the focus here aswell as the stronger community. I have noticed other brands doing something similar.....is this a good strategy or should we be directing traffic to all the platforms from the site?...bottomline should we be linking to all our social platforms from the brands website or keep it linked to the stronger platforms and just maintain a presence on the others? thank you

How can you bulk search by email for social networks?
Hello Everyone! We're trying to launch a Social Media campaign for our website and in order to reach more people and follow/invite them to our social profiles we thought of finding them by their email addresses (i read a post somewhere - maybe seomoz, maybe not can't remember). Can anyone suggest a tool or best way of researching ~20.000 email addresses to find out / filter what social networks have this email registered? Much appreciated! Alex

Identifying Social Activity of Competition in Open Site Explorer.
Analysing the competition in Open Site Explorer, as you all know the results come back with the following detail: Facebook Shares Facebook Likes Tweets Google +1 There is no link through to the pages that have liked, followed or tweeted the URL. I want to understand what the competition is doing in moire detail. How are these numbers actually defined? Is their any way (or whats the best way) to identify the individual pages that the numbers refer to? Thanks in advance. Justin

Linkbuilding vs. Social -- Allocating scarce resources.
I just watched Rand's latest webinar on the end of search without social. It was very timely for me because I've been putting a lot of thought into how allocate my available person-hours. It is clear that SEO these days necessitates both linkbuilding and social. But how much of each? (50%/50%?, 80%/20%?, etc.) -For the DIY small business owner (<10 hours per week available for SEO) -For SEO savvy web business (~20 hours per week available of SEO) -For in-house or other full time SEO's (30+ hours available) Clearly it depends on a lot of other factors, I'm just looking for a good rule of thumb that can be adjusted according to the business.
