Client's Google Analytics account access is 'user' only from previous web developer
-
Just wondering if you have any advice on the following scenario:
Client's GA account was set-up by a previous web developer. The client's GA account is a user account (not admin). When we request from the previous web developer that the account access be changed to admin, the web developer says they can't do that as we'll then have access to all the other GA accounts within their account.
Does this mean we'll have to create a new GA profile for the client and lose all historic GA data?
Any guidance greatly appreciated.

Well that's what they did, they added a number of URLs in the same profile until they realised what they were doing. I've had to set up a new GA profile and therefore only have access to the data from the old profile when I use the old log-in to the user account. Thanks for all the responses.

Yes, now we understand what you mean. We dealt with a developer in this same situation. He proposed we run an export of all the data based on a term we designated, such as June 1, 2011 - May 30, 2013. We did this over a year ago, so you may want to check the Google forums for how the new Analytics dashboard would handle this scenario.

Oh dear, it seems that my 2nd hand info wasn't correct (apologies Brian if you're reading this). I received the info from the client which has now been clarified:
the web developer didn't say that giving admin access to a user would give that user admin access to all other GA accounts but that it would give access to all other profiles set up under that GA account.
The problem is that when he started using GA first, he mistakenly added several profiles for clients website under the same GA account and cannot find a way to move a given profile from one GA account to another.
Any suggestions folks?

Thanks so much all, that's why I suspected. Good to get the validation!

We just finished dealing with this exact scenario last week. And we have dealt with it a handful of times when dealing with inexperienced developers or those who just do not know how GA works.
The developer set up our now new client as a User in their account. When we requested access, we got the same answer you did. As we expected. We explained in great detail to the developer that all he needs to do is add our @gmail.com email to that individual client's Profile as an Admin and we will only see that individual client's Profile data. No other clients of his will be seen on our GA account. Every Profile is separate from each other in all GA accounts, so like Bill and Paddy and now I'm saying... Developer is not correct in his explanation to you. Feel free to share these responses with them and also check out more about it in Google Analytics support boards/FAQs. All the best and hope you get the data you need, so you don't have to start over with a new GA account.

"If you get Admin rights for a particular profile it doesn't give you access to the other profiles."
Bill is correct, developer is wrong
-
That shouldn't be unless the web developer set all client urls in the same profile, but that seems like an incredibly backwards way to do things. I'm not even sure if that is possible. If that was the case you would still see all the other clients with a user account. If you get Admin rights for a particular profile it doesn't give you access to the other profiles.

Google Analytics - Tracking multiple thankyou pages?
Hi Guys, I want to track email opt-ins for multiple thank you pages. The setup is as follows: http://image.prntscr.com/image/57632e05a15f42fda0b8ffec2d176460.png I have not yet built the thank you pages, so i was wondering what the URL should be to make it easy to track them in GA? I'm thinking: domain.com/thankyou-page/page1 Then using regular expression in GA to track /thankyou-page/ Would this be a good way to go about it? Cheers. f6c7r0

Different transaction data social channel on Google Analytics
Hi there, On my ecommerce, in order to find out the number of transactions that came directly from my social channels I go to Acquisition->Channels and then I look at the column Transactions for the Social channel. Surprisingly this number differ from the one that I find under Acquisition->Social->Overview and then I select Transaction under Conversions. Then I look at Last interaction Social Conversions to find the number of transactions. The two quantities are totally different for a month window and they should be the same. Can any of you explain to me the reason why? Thanks and regards

Google Analytics Best Practice Set up for Clients
Hi When setting up new Google Analytics accounts for clinets what is the preferred/best practice. At present we have our own company google account and add new clinets this way (to our account) - the disadvantage with this, we can only grant them limited account access otherwise they would be able to view all the accounts we cretaed. Plus we can't link their adwords to the GA account we cretaed them. Is it best practice to set the client up with their own Google Account and then we just link to their account. Advise would be appreciated, thank you.
