SEO for a News based site : Outdated content
-
How do we maintain the SEO of a 5 year old News content based site? How should we deal with 3-4 year old content, which are outdated or not searched? Some of them are still useful as archiving/history of a topic..but not searched.... ??
Should we no-index them? or should we keep it like that?

Don't ask us.
Look at your analytics. Look at your income. Look at your visitor counts. Look at your links, likes and social shares.
One problem with big news sites is that they have waaaayyyy too much content and that makes it hard to manage. Many of them use category pages to keep the old content available. They have category pages for just about every city and person and organization that has ever been mentioned on their site. Then when that topic is mentioned in a story it gets a hyperlink to the proper category page.
The category pages can be enormously valuable and rank in the SERPs, pull in traffic, acquire links, likes tweets more.

Forget about the old content and build new content. That's the best advice I can give.
If the old content is good, keep it. If it sucks, get rid of it. If it's mediocre and timeless, re-vamp it.
Good luck!

I would leave them be. Use accurate meta tags initially, then just let them stay. One thing I would add if it is possible, is to use authorship rich snippets. If the news articles are reviewed, add that one too. Another suggestion I might give is to internally link them to newer articles. Like say you have one from 2007 that talks about Googles stock price, I would link it to the most current one that talks about Googles stock price and put a little message in about an updated article. Other than that, I think you will be fine.

How to rank highly without much content?
Many pages on the web rank highly - even though they have no keyworded text. They might have listings, or just images. How do they achieve such high rankings? Is it just by getting lots of inbound links?

Exchanging Guest Blog Opportunities - SEO Implications?
Haven't found a clear, recent answer on this. What are the SEO implications of exchanging guest blogging opportunities (in other words, we write an article for a partner blog with a backlink, and they write an article on on our blog with a backlink)? The partner site has a 57 domain authority and we have a 24 domain authority.

Why do other sites rank higher for our blog content?
Our site has always allowed other sites to RSS feed our content. Recently, we've noticed that searches for a title of our blog post will rank 2 sites that only publish said content, while our links are nowhere to be seen on the SERPs for Google. Is there any way I can fix this or prod Google to adjust it for us? Background: We were ranked highly in many long tail keywords, but lost many of them in June 2013. During this time going forward, we received no manual action.

Syndicating content with rel=author tag in it
If I have an article with my rel=author tag attached to it, and then I syndicate that article to another web site, should I keep the rel=author tag in that synbdicated article? Basically, what I'm worried about is that there will be 2 duplicate articles with my author tag on 2 different web sites. (I intend to put a canonical tag in the syndicated article so there is no duplicate content penalty) What is the best practice for this?

Can anyone recommend a hosted eCommerce solution that makes blog/article creation very easy and seamlessly integrates the content into the storefront? If the solution also offered great social media tools, also, that would be great.

Wordpress hacked. Entire content wiped out
Someone hacked my Wordpress site, wiped out all my content and changed my login status to a subscriber. Years of hard work gone, I can't log in to fix anything. Is there anything I can do. Is there a way to prevent this from happening ever again. Is there a way to catch these people?

Why is this store getting hurt in SERPs when they removed duplicate content?
I work with an e-commerce client who got hit hard by Panda. They are very cautious, and want small-scale tests to prove each hypothesis before committing to larger changes. Recently, we reworked content on 30 product detail pages. Before, these product pages featured some original content mixed with some manufacturer content. The change we made was to remove the manufacturer content completely from the product page, leaving about 300 words of high-quality, original content--all of which was written by subject matter experts. I assumed that Google viewed this manufacturer text as duplicate content. However, when these 30 modified pages were compared to the control, they performed significantly worse. Question 1: Does any have any idea why these pages would perform worse than the control?

Question 2: Do you have any tips for convincing this client to try another test or get the buy-in to make the larger changes that--in theory--need to happen? FWIW, this client has about 10,000 product detail pages--the vast majority of which contain just manufacturer content. I appreciate your thoughts.0
