Diagnose My Google Crash!
-
On July 20, my site peaked in terms of google impressions. On July 21 it crashed and then got worse. Here is my chart from Google Webmasters.
I have been working really hard to get qualify backlinks from my niche (mom deals/coupons) and I know people like my site due to the growth in newsletter subscriptions etc. So what happened with Google? Is it Google Panda? Nothing on my site changed except maybe I had been getting less backlinks for a few days.
I am having duplicate content issues which I posted about in another question. For some reason Google is indexing past page 1 of my category pages even though Yoast Wordpress SEO is set NOT to. So I am getting duplicate title tag errors from the subpages. I also have some crawl errors/404s due to deleting and renaming categories to improve my site. Any SEO issues my site might have (shorter posts than 300 words, affiliate links etc) are the same issues my competitor's have who are on page 1 of Google.
Any input would be appreciated.

You've been extremely helpful. Thanks!

You're absolutely right I see a bunch of backlinks in the just-discovered tool from high DA sites.
Google isn't disregarding them. If anything it just hasn't noticed them yet.
Fix those crawl errors, get rid of your duplicate content problems, and give it a little time.
Supplement with a strong PPC campaign if you have to in the meantime.. Otherwise just keep doing what you're doing. Keep building content and finding relevant sources to gain links from.
I'm sorry I'm not sure what else to tell you at this time.

The graph is over a period of almost 3 months. May 1 until today. I can understand the honeymoon thing but crashing me overnight isn't very nice!
I know my DA is small. But it isn't really updated either - I have way more links than that. But I know I am new and time will help.
I think certain posts were ranking high because I was getting backlinks from sites with DA of 68-72. I just got 2 more this morning. It seems like Google decided to just disregard all of those backlinks. I am still on the first page for my main keyword so at least I have that.
Any links or suggestions for an online marketing campaign? I really appreciate your feedback.

So it's hard to tell by that graph as the date range isn't listed, but it seems that this is a relatively new site, right? Like maybe 3 weeks old? You might just be feeling the effects of the Google Honeymoon (Thanks to Marie for that term)
Google will bump your SERPs way up when you're new and then you'll fall back down. That's pretty typical. Your domain authority is 17, you have 7 linking root domains with 22 total links. That's very very small. I'm assuming your targeted keywords are pretty high competition so I'd say you just need to keep building awesome content and gaining legit links.
I couldn't find an example of the duplicated content but didn't spend a ton of time with the site after seeing the small link report. This could also be affecting you but I'd guess it's more of what I was just saying. You just need to get your online marketing campaign into full gear!

Well I just saw this in WMT's today so no. That is going to take forever. Sorry I know that sounds whiny. But thanks for the reminder that I can do that.
-
Alrighty.
-
Well.. yeah it sounds like duplicate content issues from what you described here but there's no way for us to tell without seeing the domain and being able to poke around.
So without that I can't really help you.
-
If Google is still indexing past page 1 of cat pages, have you gone into WMT's and removed URLs from the index?

How much time does it takes for a backlink to get registered in Google? My basketball anime website has been live since start of this week and Google has not registered any backlink.
So my website https://www.animedhfa.com/basketball-anime/ about basketball Anime has shown no changes in DA or backlinks. It has been 5 days perhaps since it went live.

How to Recover From a Google Penguin Penalty?
My web site is hit by penguin penalty and got the mail from Google to my web master tool saying. "Google has detected a pattern of artificial or unnatural links pointing to your site. Buying links or participating in link schemes in order to manipulate PageRank are violations of Google's Webmaster Guidelines.

As a result, Google has applied a manual spam action to xxxxx.com/. There may be other actions on your site or parts of your site.

Use the Links to Your Site feature in Webmaster Tools to download a list of links to your site.
Ensure that unnatural links pointing to your site are removed.
When these changes are made, and you are satisfied that links to your site follow Google's Webmaster Guidelines, submit a reconsideration request. If you're unable to remove links pointing to your site, please provide as much detail as possible in your reconsideration request. For an updated list of manual actions currently applied to your site, visit the Manual Actions page. How to get Google to re-recognize a backlink that used to go to a 404?
I recently rebuilt my website last year, the address is enjoyparkcity.com. I used to have a great link from cnbc.com at http://www.cnbc.com/id/34977253/page/5, but when I rebuilt my website, that landing page url no longer existed (http://www.enjoyparkcity.com/search_featured.html). I recently rebuilt a page to catch that link again, and it works fine. Is there a way for Google to re-recognize it? I think its a normal do=follow link so Im guessing it should be valuable? Hoping it could help my rankings? Thanks in advance for any advice!

Unable to build google local listings, are citations still useful?
Hello Google seems to be unhappy about letting us build google local profiles around our 'virtual locations, for each of which we have a dedicated page. We have approximately 100 'virtual locations' with addresses. I was wondering if, despite not being able to build google local profiles, it would still be worth it to build yahoo, bing, and utilize citation building services to each of those virtual locations. Would these citations in any way help bing or yahoo rank higher locally? Would the locally optimized city page rank higher as a result of all these citations? This is a service-industry based website btw.

Google webmaster tools Who links the most updates?
Has anyone ever seen in the section in GWT "Who links the most" actually update. I have sites listed in there that had me on a blogroll so I had 93,000 links to me and they removed those links months ago but GWT still shows that number of links. Does anyone else actually see those numbers go down as links are removed?

Directory submission after Google panda update
I am very much concerned about directory submission after Google panda update. I have few questions in this regard 1- Should I submit the home page URL or deep links in directories? What is better practice? 2- Can I submit more than one link in one directory? What are the consequences of submitting both (home page and deep link) in same directory? 3- Should I start directory submission aggressively or I need to take care about the quantity? Regards

Freedom from Google
I was looking at a blog site and the owner is claiming a very high number of hits per day, I forget maybe it was 200,000 a month or something like that. His site is about "self improvement" so it is a general interest site, so I understand traffic is high for this type of site. The interesting thing is that he claims that he gets only 1.5% of his traffic from Google. The rest is mostly referred traffic that he gets from other blogs and sites where they have posted his link and people actually click on it. NOw while a lawyer site is unlikely to ever be popular like that, ithe idea of having an internet marketing strategy that is not subject to the vagaries of Google , the Panda and other algorithm changes, etc is quite interesting. This guy said that he has totally emphasized having great content and not SEO tactics or marketing tactics. Would this concept make sense on a lawyer site? Does anyone have any thoughts? thx Paul

Google Webmaster Tools - assessing inbound links
Hello, I am terribly confused by Google Webmaster Tools. I am looking at my inbound links, to see which content on the site is strongest. However, the results from GWT under Links to your site, and the results from doing a link: search in Google yield very different results! For example, in GWT, this page on our site apparently 2237 links from 29 different domains. But when I search link:www.nigelsecostore.com/acatalog/Eco_Stapler.html, I get just three results, two of which are from our site. What is the cause of the disparity between the two results, or is it just my (lack of) understanding of what I am seeing in the Links to your site report in GWT? Any help clearing this up gratefully received! Many thanks, Sophy
