Low Ranking Mystery
-
Hello fellow MOZzers..!
I am fairly new to this community but have been working on my SEO skills for a while.. I have created over 20 websites for myself and various clients, and all of them are doing fairly well ranking n.1 for their targeted keywords... except 1 WEBSITE THAT IS BECOMING A ROYAL PAIN IN THE BUTT!
The website is www.dancepartycentral.co.uk and this is why it's a mystery to me:
- The on-site SEO seems to be on point (getting an A on page-grader for desired keywords)
- "Dance Party" does not seem to be too much of a competitive keyword
- Many of the other competitors do not seem to have very professional websites (apart from 3 or 4) or that have as much targeted content for the relevant keywords
- I have over relevant 20 sites and industry directories for Entertainers that are linking to the site (even though not all of them are appearing on page crawls)
- Please keep in mind this site has been created using webs.com so I have little control over the coding
- I seem to only be getting a 6.5% TXT/HTML ratio even though the site is made up mostly of original content
This business highly relies on organic SEO searches and as my site is not ranking in the top 50, it's become a bit of a head-scratcher for me.. if anyone is kind enough to help me shed some light on the problem and how I can resolve this, I would be eternally grateful!
Many thanks
Jessica

ooohh Tony that is VERY interesting as ZooDance is supposed to redirect, definitely NOT be a duplicate (this was our old domain). This REALLY helps I will look into this now. Many many thanks!

Hey Jessica,
Just had a quick check and you seem to have 2 x duplicate sites live: www.zoodance.co.uk/ and www.dancepartycentral.co.uk (not sure if you have any more?) both with identical on-page SEO. You mention that you have 20 x sites & ind directories that you own that link to your www.dancepartycentral.co.uk site but if they're all hosted on the same server (a who.is check showed 26 x sites hosted) then Google may consider your set-up a link farm.
So 2 x issues for starters (and big ones at that!) - 2 x duplicate websites (with Google ranking neither) and same IP address web hosting. Plus neither site 301 redirects from non-www to www - so in effect you have 4 potential duplicate sites (2 of each www and non-www).
Suggest removing 1 of them (review your link profile, branding, followers, analytics, offline outreach to confirm which to remove) and hosting on different server to others and adding a 301 to non-www to redirect to www.
Hope this helps?
Good luck

Jessica,
I was referring to on line reviews.I was specifically referring to Yelp, Google, and Bing. I tell all my clients that their goal should be 10 reviews on each platform. I get a lot of pushback on Yelp because of the filters. There is a perception that Yelp does not publish positive reviews. This is not true as ar as I can tell. What is true is that they do filter people out who do not write reviews on a regular basis. Unfortunately the guys that review all the time often had a bad childhood ;).
So along with getting them to review I would encourage them to have their clients write multiple reviews while they are on Yelp. A way to encourage people to write these reviews is that Google is using these local "citations" as evidence of a local establishment. This will give companies a boost on mobile if people from the company are writing reviews on a regular basis.

Thanks Ron for the clarification! I will have a look to see if there are any local directories that I have missed. In terms of reviews do you mean on the directories directly? Just because our clients send them to us by email so I will have to try and get them to write them on the local directories instead in that case..!Haven't heard of Spyfu so I will definitely have a look at that. Thanks again!

Jessica,
I would look at a few things. First I was not clear on my earlier comment. Have you set up all the local directories? This would be both Google and Bing local, yelp, text, merchant circle, etc...
Second I would look at relative review strength. Your quantity and quality of reviews can be up to 40% of your ranking if everything else is equal.
Finally I would look at your competitive position on key words. I would use a tool like Spyfu to find out how your content compares. If there are some short falls you can expend your content in these areas.

Hi Ron.. yes thanks for this, we have done as much as we can in regards to off-page SEO and we have as many relevant articles and incoming links form industry websites but it doesn't seem to have much effect unfortunately..
-
Jessica,
I would suggest some off page SEO if you have not done this already. I have had phenomenal results in a situation like this.

Tons of Links from Low-Quality Image Directories?
Hi Mozzers, I've been receiving a ton of links from low-quality websites that look like image directories or search engines? They are displaying the images that are hosted on our own website. They all seem very similar. Has anyone experienced this and are these harmful? Should they be left alone or disavowed or..? Here are a few examples: http://myimagecollection.net http://pix-collection.com http://theimagess.org/ http://123coolpictures.com etc. Thanks in advance!

Link value from high authority domains vs low authority domains. How big is the difference?
Hi Guys. Could you send me in the direction of some quality information on link value. i.e) How much 'link juice' do you get from high authority domains vs low authority domains. Also, I understand the Moz value for DA is logarithmic, not linear. Does this also mean that a link from a site with a really high DA would be exponentially higher value than a site with a low DA. You know....like orders of magnitude better? Cheers in advance, I love you guys 😉 Isaac.

Low Page Authority for key landing pages
Hi guys - I am struggling to understand why I have a Page Authority of 1 (!) for most of my key product landing pages. All of them are linked to directly from the Homepage, which has PA 46 and DA 40. Many of them are also linked to from high ranking external sites. Less valuable pages on the site, with far fewer links, seem to have much higher PA. For some reason these just don't seem to be registering the link juice which is flowing to them. In fact, OSE doesn't seem to register any links for them - perhaps this is the biggest clue? I am at a bit of a loss. Some of these pages still rank highly for relevant keywords on Google. But something clearly isn't quite right. Has anyone experienced similar?

What can I do to improve my site's local search ranking?
I've read a lot about the "Magic 7" ranking factors for local search, and I feel like in a lot of ways, my site (www.imageworkscreative.com) is doing all the right things and still not having terrific results. The only thing I can think of to really improve upon is how often our local keywords are mentioned on our pages - maybe setting up a local blog or something similar would be helpful? Adding footers that include the names of local cities? Does anyone have any pointers for me? We would really like to rank for things like dc web design, web design va, etc. - and fast. We have (recent) links from two local Chambers of Commerce and we're working on getting accredited by the BBB. I feel like those listings will help us, but there has to be more we can do.

On my latest report we have dropped one point on Domain authority. I also note that our 3 competitor rankings have dropped as well. Has something changed to make this occur.

Is my linking tactic affecting my rankings?
Hello All, I'd like to think that my SEO style was both helpful and useful. But lately i've been thinking that I may be damaging my own SEO! Let me explain, I love forums and technical gossip. Being a IT guy, I usually find an interesting question from websites like Yahoo, Microsoft, SOASE Forums etc etc and write a decent article on one of the questions going into real detail. I then post my basic answer (word limits) and a hyperlink incase anybody wants to read the rest of my article. I used to think that this was great for SEO, because it was certainly great for making great connections. However, a backlink check on my website shows that I have a good 40 - 60 hyperlinks, 40/ 50 of which from just Forums I've posted on but only from 3 - 4 domains. Would this affect my ratings? Looking at my own site from an SEO consultant perspective, having one source of links seems awfully suspicious to me!

Looking for Feedback on Rankings Dropping
Hi, I am looking for some guidance on figuring out a problem I am having with one of my clients. Their site is http://www.macton.com. They have seen a pretty significant drop in rankings for "hoist systems" "industrial turntables" and "railroad equipment." Below is my analysis and thoughts. Please let me know if you have any input you can provide me with. Hoist Systems Rankings started dropping significantly July 2nd. Their average position was around the 2nd - 3rd page. They're now in position 100. Some things I noticed is that Google is now ranking the page /freight_rail/portable-car-hoist-freight for this term, whereas a few months ago it was ranking /rail_equipment/car-hoist. I'm not sure why Google has started to rank this new page for this term when there is no reference to that keyword in the page and the other one is better suited. Industrial Turntables Rankings started dropping off in January and they have been up and down and even fell off for a bit in March. They took a deep dive May 28 - Jun 11 and are slowly picking up. I noticed that Google is also changing which page it is choosing to rank for this term. Currently it is ranking /rail_equipment/locomotive-turntables, previously it was ranking the homepage around May 28th, and before that it was /equipment/industrial-testing. Some things we thought would help this was to create a whole new page just on industrial turntables in order to rank better for this term. Another thing that I think would be highly beneficial is to do some more aggressive link building. Their top anchor text is all brand related, and very few include their target keywords. To my knowledge, I don't think they have a penguin issue, although I could be mistaken. Can anyone provide input and/or guidance on my analysis? Any suggestions?
