Author avatar in homepage search result
-
Hello
I actually see some websites which the owner don't want to display the google+ profile avatar when homepage is displayed in search result, except blog posts only
For example: yoast.com
Is it a good practice in wordpress? or we must claim authorship & display the google+ avatar for all pages & all posts?
Thanks

DK,
You can follow Christy's advice with the Yoast plugin. If you are wanting to have the Author image show for the Home page then select that option in the Yoast plugin OR you can simply add a link to the Home page as explained in this video http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FgFb6Y-UJUI.
As Authorship has become more recognized and can increase click through rates, people have been rushing to implement for ALL pages, including the Home page. So, to your question, it's recommended to attach to your Home page if you are the only author to the website. If you are not, then leave the Home page out of it and connect Authorship to your individuals articles or pages.
Hope this was the answer you were looking for. - Patrick

Hi DK! First make sure that your Yoast plugin is up-to-date, then go into its options for Social. You will see three tabs: Facebook, Twitter, & Google+. Click on the one for Google+, and then select "Don't show" Author for homepage in the drop-down menu. There are only two options on the Google+ tab, Author for homepage and Google Publisher Page. Let me know how that works for you!
Cheers, Christy

Hi, anyone can help?
Thanks
-
Thank you very much for your response
I did spend few hours but couldn't locate where to remove the rel=author for the homepage.
I'm using latest wp and yoast SEO plugin version.
Any idea?Thanks

In WordPress, you have a couple options.
-
Do not have any reference of "rel=author" for the Home page or sub-Pages, which lets Google know these are non-related pages to any Google+ business profile or individual profile. You only want the "rel=author" reference with the Blog Posts.
-
The other option you have is to create multiple users, so the 1st user creates and publishes the Home page and any "Pages" if you want, while the 2nd user, 3rd user, 4th user, etc... the ones with the Google+ profiles associated with the WordPress website/blog creates and publishes all of the "Posts" in the website as "Authors". This will tell Google to display the blog posts with the Author's image in the SERPs.
You are going in the right direction to have your website synced with a G+ profile, especially for Author image display for search results!

Change SEO focus from homepage to other page on the domain
Hi, we are (were) ranking top 5 with gietvloer-wand.nl by focussing the homepage for a certain keyword. We're trying to change to focus from the homepage to /gietvloeren with more content / information. How to go about this? how to tell Google that /gietvloeren is more relevant / important then than the homepage? Or any experiences how long it will take for Google to see that the page has more information than the homepage? It's a test and any experiences you can share would be great. Thanks!

Optimal Homepage Slider Tips?
Hello Moz Community, I am designing my slider for 'SliderRevolution' on Illustrator. I wish to know the optimal resolution for a homepage slider - both for page speed and for resolution quality. I am using a full-width slider and would just like to know any SEO techniques you guys have used when designing your slider. Not reducing page speed is my main priority here. *Bonus points if you can help with SEO techniques and the slider.

Does homepage SEO exist at all?
hi Just read a Yoast article explaining that the homepage should never be optimized for a specific keyword and should only be optimized for its business or brand name. i have a large site that I'd like to rank (or increase traffic for as I know people get irritated with that term now) for 'Campervan hire'. It has plenty of sub pages going after 'Campervan hire 'location'' for example. it makes sense to me for the homepage keyword - my core keyword - to be 'Campervan hire' and for the homepage to be optimised for this. However, the article I've just read (https://yoast.com/homepage-seo/) suggests a separate page for this keyword. What are your thoughts pls?? thanks

Keywords ranking on Homepage but are not mentioned.
I was wondering why some of my keywords are ranking in my homepage but are not mentioned even once. Is it maybe because they are semantically related with the keywords targeted on the homepage? What are the reason(s) for this? Thanks for enlightening me with this one.

Thoughts on Results from Changing Title Tags
A number of the client's we represent have seen drops in rankings. The title tags on these sites are formatted old way of doing tilte: "Blue Widgets| Cheap Widgets | Metal Widgets". We are going to change them to the natural format: Acme Offers Blue, Metal Widgets for Any Budget." Just wondering if anyone has made similar changes post-penguin and if they've seen improved ranking from doing it.

Is It better to have a blogroll style Homepage to your website? or one main post?
Does a site rank better or is it better to have a blogroll style homepage linking to all of your other post in your website. Or is it better to have one homepage post for the main keyword theme of the website, with the other post titles in a side column?

Target the homepage?
Hi SEOmoz! I have a potential client who is piloting a web application in a specific geo market, but plans on expanding to 10+ cities in the near future (6-12 months). He wants to rank for "[initial geo market] + [service]". Should I optimize the homepage for this keyword (which will be relatively easy to rank for), or encourage him to build out a geo-specific template (could take a few months to add this to the application) for this market, and try to rank that so it's scalable? Thoughts are appreciated. 🙂 EDIT: In terms of the business type, this is a web application that helps people organize their travel. It isn't your local traditional restaurant that is trying to compete with others in their area. We would be competing with other nationally recognized travel applications (TripAdvisor, Yahoo Travel, etc), most likely.

Accessibility search
Hello there, One of the sites we do work for is a chain of care homes. We are in the process of adding a page reader so any visitors they have who are visually impaired will find it easier to access the info they need. We're doing this from a usability point of view more than anything (given their target audience), but while looking to see if there were any accessibility news sites /directories we could leverage for some links I came across mentions of the old Google Accessibility search. It seems to have been before my time as an SEO, so I wondered: is this still relevant, or has it just been assimilated into the regular algorithm (the only mentions I could find were very dated) if relevant and separate from the main search, are there many who use it what other things should we take into account when trying to optimise for this (assuming it's still relevant, of course) Cheers guys!
