E-commerce shopping cart abandonment question!
-
I would like to know, in your personal experience what is the industry standard for shopping cart abandonment? Does it depend on the industry? Obviously I am not looking for the magic number because there is always room for testing and improvements. However, I do want to know what is the comfortable number that you can live with? Is it 50%, 60%?, 70%?
Thank you in advance for your help.

Hi Bryan,
This is similar to the good, great, industry standard bounce rate questions for ecommerce.
It depends on your products, promotions, cart friendliness, software performance etc.
Like bounce rate, your cart abandonment rate will develop a track record over time and once your site performs consistently, you'll now what is good and when there is a problem.
As a parent, you know when those two great looking kids of yours are not acting healthy. Similarly, you'll know when your site, cart etc. is not acting healthy either.
I'm sure our cart abandonment rate is higher than average because of the large volume of heavy products we sell on our site. Once the customer sees the shipping cost at checkout, they balk and bounce.
Our cart provider (Volusion) has been having functionality issues of all kinds since late February. That's a whole 'nother can of worms but suffice to say it has had a significant impact on cart abandonment.

Hi Bryan
Really interesting and I'm keen to hear other people's experiences.
I can't comment off the top of my head on shopping cart abandonment rates but for checkout abandonment rates I would be expecting a consumer website with a good checkout process to convert more than 50% of users once they have clicked a 'checkout' button. With a poor checkout process I would expect this to go down to about 30%.

How much to charge for my E-commerce SEO services and web design
Hello, I'm starting a web design company doing standard web design, E-commerce web design, and E-commerce SEO. I've been doing the nuts and bolts of an E-commerce business with four online stores, one very successful, for nine years. Since that's my main experience, I'm sticking with helping others with the nuts and bolts of their E-commmerce SEO. I also do the web design, which I've been doing since 2001. What should I charge per hour for my web design and E-commerce SEO services? I live in Boise, Idaho. I'm thinking $100 an hour for everything, is that too much for web design or too little for SEO? The SEO would be billed exact but my web design estimates are more generous. Looking for honest opinions. I don't want to over or under charge. Thanks Bob

Looking For Offline Software that Synchronizes with an E-commerce Website.
First of all, this isn't really SEO related. I can see this being an interesting discussion. One of my websites has a POS system that has an integrated eCommerce store where using a third party software you can sync the data that is in the pos directly to the website. You can add what products you want on the website with the (offline) software and add all the online product essentials such as product pictures, shipping weights, titles and ECT. I am looking for a shopping cart system that is an offline software that you would install on your PC and basically add everything offline and then sync like the other software but without the pos. It would basically be like eBay turbo Lister but instead of eBay it would be your website...obliviously. I have been looking for a while now and can't seem to find anything. Is there such a thing? I know this would be kick ass platform to develop and I have everything mapped out how to do it if there isn't one out there. Looking for insight.

How do I keep my question coming up to the top (first page) of SEOMoz?
I'd like to get more replies to my questions. I'm getting a decent amount of views. I'm making an offer and call to action. Do I need to just keep on tweaking the headline question? Or are SEOMoz'ers not necessarily looking for work?

Question about local listings for traveling service
I have a band that performs all over my state and was wondering if i could add my business to google local listings in all the cities that my band performs in. How would i go about that being as there would be only one phone number and no local address? I'd love to get the traffic from the local listings that come up for certain search phrases. I wasn't sure if Google would look at that as spamming though. I do have contract musicians that play with us in each of those cities and could list their home address as the address just in case i have to have an address on the listing that is local. How do businesses that provide services in multiple cities by traveling to those cities usually list their businesses? any help would be much appreciated! Thanks in advance!

Google Products / Google Shopping
My client has a site with products a lot of which are so similar in function that for usability reasons we have combined some products on the same pages. We want to get into Google Shopping, but on the face of it the Google feed seems to want unique urls per product. I guess we could have products on the same page then have single pages as well, though that could generate duplicate content. We could also try pointing several products to 1 URL, does anyone know if this would work? Or can anyone suggest any work arounds? Justin

Mechanical Turk for product re writing ? Ecommerce question.
We work with ecommerce clients specifically and many of them get duplicated content from their manufacturers. I've heard of people using the turk to outsource product re writing and am wondering if anyone here has had success? Do you just get all the product descriptions re written and delivered in a CSV for uploading or have any of you developed a more automated approach? How is the content quality been? Thanks much!
