Low quality websites with spammy EMDs still ranking higher than genuine websites?
-
Hey guys,
I've just been doing some searching and couldn't quite contemplate how heavily low-quality and spammy EMDs are still running some Google searches.
Just take "cheap kitchens", for instance.
Here are a list of URLs that appeared;
http://kitchenunitsdoors.co.uk/
http://www.kitchenunits9.co.uk/
http://www.aboutkitchenunits.co.uk/
http://www.cheapkitchenunits1.co.uk/
http://www.cheapkitchensonline.com/
http://www.buycheapkitchens.com/
http://www.cheapkitchenscheapkitchen.co.uk/
http://www.cheapkitchensforsale1.co.uk/
http://cheapkitchensaberdeen.co.uk/
http://www.kitchensderby1.co.uk/
http://www.cheapcheapkitchens.co.uk/
http://www.cheapestkitchensinbritain.co.uk/
http://www.cheapkitchenss.co.uk/
http://www.cheaperthanmfi.com/
As you can see, none of them appear to be genuine retailers and are setup purely to influence Google rankings. I'm amazed that Google is still giving so much weight to these types of sites - especially considering how search is meant to be better than it ever was before!
Any insights into why this is?

Backed by quite a bit of real-life experience on EGOL's part.

Hi Matthew,
If there are so many problems and so obvious, why don't you submit a report to Google. They clearly state this in their quality guidelines for webmasters:
If you believe that another site is abusing Google's quality guidelines, please let us know by filing a spam report. Google prefers developing scalable and automated solutions to problems, so we attempt to minimize hand-to-hand spam fighting. While we may not take manual action in response to every report, spam reports are prioritized based on user impact, and in some cases may lead to complete removal of a spammy site from Google's search results. Not all manual actions result in removal, however. Even in cases where we take action on a reported site, the effects of these actions may not be obvious.
More details here: https://support.google.com/webmasters/answer/35769
Why not do it? You got nothing to loose!

No offence but that is a proper generic answer.
-
From what I have seen, these types of website are only successful when competition is really easy. So working to boost the strength of your site will usually get you above these bottom fishers.
-
I agree matthew, but the intention with these sites is not just to rank for that one keyword.
Many black hats will bombard them with 100's if not 1000's of backlinks with varied anchor texts covering all the long tail words \ phrases which helps rank those sites for a whole range of things.
In fact there are tools out there that will find all the longtails, and even though adwords may show zero search volume, collectively they will bring in alot of long tail traffic that no-one has optimised for.
-
No, I definitely wouldn't say that. If I wanted a kitchen and I wanted it cheap then I'd say there's a good chance I'd be searching "cheap kitchens".
-
It's as though Google's saying "Let's leave the low quality queries to be filled by the low quality sites." I mean really... the only people who take a search like that seriously are the marketers who are trying to get their sites to rank for them-- people actually looking for kitchen remodeling contractors are searching with other terms. Wouldn't you say?

Just found this...
-
After a bit of research I've discovered that all but four of those domains are owned by the same person.
Incredible.
-
Yep, no. 1 in one of my niche is a one page EMD with 7000 backlinks (low quality comment spam), of which 98% are nofollow.
Its stupid.
-
I see the same pattern in Google. Are these sites scraping RSS feeds and publishing another person's content?

Google Algorithm non-manual penalty. How do we fix this (quality?) drop?
Hi, See attached image. We received a non-manual penalty on March 22, 2015. I don't think we ever came out of it. We have moved up due to the Penguin update, but we should (by DA PA) be up on the first page for tons of stuff and most keyword are lower than their true strength. What kind of quality errors could be causing this? I assume it was a quality update. I am working on the errors, but don't see anything that would be so severe as to be penalized. What errors/quality problems am I looking for? We have tons of unique content. Good backlinks. Good design. Good user experience except for some products. Again, what am I looking for? Thanks. non-manual-penalty.png

Increase in spammy links from image gallery websites i.e. myimagecollection.net
Hi there I've recently noticed a lot of spammy links coming from image gallery sites that all look the same, i.e.: http://mypixlibrary.co/ http://hdimagegallery.net/ http://myimagecollection.net/ http://pixhder.com/ Has anyone else seen links from these? They have no contact details, not sure if they are some form of negative SEO or site spam. Any ideas how to get rid? Thanks

Website not moving?
We run a printing website www.fastprint.co.uk and have built a few decent tools such as http://www.fastprint.co.uk/adobe-shortcut-mapper/ and decent infographics such as http://www.fastprint.co.uk/blog/the-art-of-mixing-typefaces.html and had a fair few decent links from website over the course of the last 1 1/2 but we do not seem to be moving very far? If you take our site on sem rush (a decent percentage of our site traffic is through the above tools or decent blog posts so the number would be lower for E-commerce) http://www.semrush.com/uk/info/fastprint.co.uk+(by+organic)?sort=volume_desc in comparison to a few others http://www.semrush.com/uk/info/banana-print.co.uk+(by+organic)] http://www.semrush.com/uk/info/brunelone.com+(by+organic) Especially this site http://www.semrush.com/uk/info/instantprint.co.uk+(by+organic) I just don't get what we are doing wrong?

What are legit ways to raise up you're ranking for a new website?
I have a wallpaper website that i just made and bought a template that looks fine for the site so far for a month now, and i wanted to know what steps i cant take to better rank my site and build some traffic along the way. I use only specific directories, not sure how to get a press release done and also link back to other sites from pages that get a decent amount of traffic where i can leave a link to it, of course not leaving any type of spammy looking comments. This is the site i am working on right now, freehdwallpapers.be I have linked back from a few sites already, i look at the alexa rank if it will show a number at one point, the sites worth is still pretty low, and also i have added social networks on the site which has gained a number of followers to this day, so i got work to do still. I just don't want to go on about it the wrong way and get penalized by google.

Redirecting old domains for SEO ranking?
It's been a while since I read anything seriously out of the box on SEO but I thought I would see what others thought of the bold assertions made in this article. Most of it revolves around buying expired domains and using a 301 to point them, and their juice, to new sites. This guy makes a living doing this so he has to know a bit more than the average Joe but I'm wondering where the other shoe is and when it drops.

Is Meta Keywords Important For Websites?
Hi, I understand that meta title and descriptions are very important for websites. I would like to know if meta keywords are important? I have seen people talking about meta keywords are useless and it should be removed from the website to prevent competitors from knowing your keywords. Anyone has anything to share? 🙂

Need a Service to get back links- info on Youtube PR Ranking
I have about 4000 you tube video urls that I need someone to submit for comment links, and profile links, and other links above pr2 and above. (will consider lower pr too). The ones I see when searching, don't seem to be able to understand how to use their submitters. Yes I know PR most likely will not be passed, but at least the vid will rank better with higher pr. My pr4 vids do. It seems to be that you tube vids are easier to gain pr. When I do a link search for pr5 vid urls, it doesn't seem to return links that justify the PR, so any info on that is appreciated. Any comments about how I should not do this or any form of this will not be appreciated. Thanks
