How do you handle a large site with a very high DA?
-
I am looking at working with a site that has a DA of 93, they competitors have a DA of 90, 91, 92. Any insights to the struggles I might face with a site like this?
-
I have a few clients with 90+ DA scores and suggest the following stay on your radar:
1. (At lest in our case) these clients have large dev teams which can lead to unintended SEO issues when changes or roll outs are not properly coordinated. Basically don't let the client break their own site or rankings. This is not meant to be cynical, its just a reality when you work with a larger team.
2. Typical link building is not a main priority, these sites often build links on their own. Focus on high quality links, and ensuring that the anchor text used is properly balanced.
3. Researching conversions and keywords for new opportunities is important.
4. Improving conversion rates of the pages can often increase value quickly on these high traffic sites.
5. Look for keywords where the client has some ranking traction due to the authority but where they are not on the first page. These can often be easy and highly valuable traffic wins.

I would think that the only struggles you may have would have to do with the company's industry more than the DA of the site. You would have the same "struggles" battling for a top position if the site had a DA of 23 and the competitors had a DA of 20, 21, and 22.
I would suggest that you spend some time doing some competitive analysis. Not just top level, "Who has higher DA and more links, or more likes, etc." but, who has better content, better meta descriptions (doesn't help SEO, but helps in getting users to click on your site in the SERPs), a deeper content library, etc. Use Google to search your competitors and find every web page, PDF, Word Doc, Presentation, Video, etc. and then compare their inventory against your own. Once you see what is working for them, put your own spin on it and make it better OR just make it current if they have great content, but it is out of date.
When you are dabbling in the lower DAs, basic SEO modifications are what makes biggest/fastest change, but when you are dealing with the big dogs - sometimes it is more difficult to move the needle, so you need to think of the little things like giving users a more compelling meta description, giving them better, more relevant content.
I would suggest that you:
- not worry about traffic.
- not worry about rankings.
- worry about bounce rate.
- worry about conversions.
Traffic and rankings are relatively easy. Ensuring that you are providing each and every visitor value is not - this is what I would suggest you figure out how to do.
Hope this helps.
Mike

Linking to the same sites from more than one of my sites, is this bad?
If I work for a company that has more than one website within the same industry and we have separate websites within that industry. An example would be: CarLoans.com HomeLoans.com & PersonalLoans.com The only difference from this example is that we are a B2B Company. My question is: is it bad to acquire links from the same external websites for multiple websites that we own and want to rank for? If I establish a relationship with Forbes or some other website and I can get links to several of our sites, will it ever be bad to link to all of our websites from this one website. I am asking not just for high domain authority website like Forbes, but also for websites that may have a DA in the 30's 40's and 50's as well. Thank you

I don't do that many press releases, but I need to do one soon. I had been using PRweb.com and I see they raised their prices. Are they considered the best online PR site or are there sites people have used that have gotten similar results for less money?? Thanks

Is it safe to submit the same article to multiple sites?
Hello, I am just getting into SEO and I need some guidance with article submissions. I have read in many different places that submitting articles to other sites (EzineArticles, Digg, Etc.) is a great way to build links back to your site. My question is, can I submit articles already posted on our site to these sites or is it best to write new articles?

Links from Domain Portfolio Advertising Sites
I recently purchased a domain from a someone with a large portfolio and my site's link is still found on thousands of his one page/low quality sites. I find these links on Open Site Explorer but not in WT. Should I ask the portfolio owner to remove the link from his low quality domain advertising sites?
