E-commerce worldwide sub domains or folders
-
Hi Guys,
We currently only sell to the UK so its pretty easy to manage our seo etc.
However we are building a new site on Trespass.com and will be using magento enterprise. We will be serving the UK, US and the rest of the world.
Does anyone here have experience with this? Is it best to have sub domains ie. UK.trespass.com, US.trespass.com?
Or folders Trespass.com/uk Trespass.com/de Trespass.com/US
Thanks guys

Definetely go for subfolders, you can then target all you linkbuilding activities to different parts of the domains, and this will eventually help the complete domain. We work already with subfolders for the last 15 years and also with the hreflang, works fine.

i think its folders. Need to make a decision today so folders it is. I know theres pros and cons to folders, sub domains and even seperate tlds.
Only in the UK I bet haha next year will be worldwide
Cheers

If that's the case, then yes I would also go with folders as they are my preferred way to do it.
I've had a couple of Trespass jackets in my time!

I did mention that but essentially that would make link building to thousands of sites if we were targeting every country in europe etc.
Having subfolders would help to build authority on one domain as opposed to across mutliple domains.
Multiple tlds for each country isnt anoption as its expensive and time consuming. With folders I believe is the 2nd best option and using certain modules, rel="alternate" hreflang="x" would work well
Thanks for your reply

Hi Tresspass,
Before thinking about using subfolders and sub domains you should think about using the county top level domains (TLDs) you already have, as country specific TLDs are (generally) a much favored way to Geo target websites.
Trespass.com for US
Trespass.co.uk for UK
However this could become a stumbling block if you wanted one that isn't available. such http://www.trespass.de/

Does having a different sub domain for your Landing Page and Blog affect your overall SEO benefits and Ranking?
We have a domain www.spintadigital.com that is hosted with dreamhost and we also have a seperate subdomain blog.spintadigital.com which is hosted in the Ghost platform and we are also using Unbounce landing pages with the sub domain get.spintadigital.com. I wanted to know whether having subdomain like this would affect the traffic metric and ineffect affect the SEO and Rankings of our site. I think it does not affect the increase in domain authority, but in places like similar web i get different traffic metrics for the different domains. As far as i can see in many of the metrics these are considered as seperate websites. We are currently concentrating more on our blogs and wanted to make sure that it does help in the overall domain. We do not have the bandwidth to promote three different websites, and hence need the community's help to understand what is the best option to take this forward.

Root Domain v Subdomain
Hi, Just doing some analysis on a domain, and the (external) linking root domains show as:
Intermediate & Advanced SEO | | bjs2010
21 to Root Domain
4 to Subdomain The site is hosted under the www. subdomain version and there is no 301 from domain to www.domain Should the site be: Hosted on the root domain instead of subdomain 301 all incoming requests on domain to point to www.domain (subdomain) Any comments and experience on this type of situation appreciated!0 -
E Commerce site - removing discontinued items
We have been hit with a Panda penalty and the site has slowly been losing rankings since January, I've now realised that we have 4000+ page indexed in Google, but only 2000 live products. We have never deleted any of the pages with discontinued items, most of which were created when keyword stuffing and thin content reigned supreme - which explains the Panda penalty. But which is the best and quickest way to delete them from Google? We have already implemented a 'noindex' across all these pages, but as they are no longer in the 'crawlable' site, how will Google find them to know this? Would a 404 work any better - I'm not concerned about any link juice etc to/from these pages, I just want rid. I'm not sure if we can move all these pages into a dedicated directory which would allow us to use Google's Removal Tool - using it with the individual urls would be a mammoth task. Any advice would be most greatly appreciated.

Domain Forwarding
I have a client who previously registered 20 unique domain names that tied to their company name and services. They use all of these domains to forward to their main website to try and capture additional traffic. Would you suggest that we remove all of the domains by 301 redirecting them all the the main website? I am trying to find a good article that shows the implications on SEO by using many domains that forward to a main website. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

Link Building for E-Commerce
Hi, Our on page optimization, albeit for a few dupe content issues, is ok - We have good keyword rich URL's, Titles, H1's and unique product descriptions. So now I want to look at building links that will boost our DA and PA's. We have over 2000 products on the store and around 130 categories/subcategories -and I would appreciate any views on where to start - My initial view is to get backlinks from the relevant manufacturer websites to the "shop by brand" page on our site related to these manufacturers - What other strategies should I look at? Thanks, Ben

Bounce rate and average visit time in an e-commerce site
Dear all, I am managing a Belgian online pharmacy (www.pharma2go.be) . The online pharmacy has a quite high bounce rate (+/- 79%) and low avg. visit time (< 1 minute). This could somehow be related to a choices that have been made in the past to also build the site in English (but without English product texts available - only Dutch and French). The reason is that people all over Europe could order. Another reason could be that also product on prescription are shown which cannot be ordered. This was chosen to still offer the visitors the product leaflets as a service. I am wondering if it would be beneficial for SEO to remove the English version and the on prescription products. At least if this would lower bounce rate and increase the average visit time. Thanks for your input. Kindest regards, Stefaan

How to keep the link juice in E-commerce to an "out of stock" products URL?
I am running an e-commerce business where I sell fashion jewelry. We usually have 500 products to offer and some of them we have only one in stock. What happens is that many of our back links are pointed directly to a specific product, and when a product is sold out and no longer is in stock the URL becomes inactive, and we lose the link juice. What is the best practice or tool to 301-redirect many URLs at the same time without going and changing one URL at a time? Do you have any other suggestions on how to manage an out of stock product but still maintain the link juice from the back link? Thanks!
