NAP corrections without using Yext
-
There are certain places where my address or phone number appear incorrectly online. I have tried to fix this, but many of these services are tied in with Yext, and I don't want to use Yext. For example my phone number is incorrect on whitepages.com. Also, my phone number was incorrect on Americantowns.com, and so i contacted them with the correct number, and then they deleted my listing altogether. More and more directories are tied in with Yext. Does anyone have any suggestions on how to make these corrections without using a service such as Yext?

My pleasure, Steve.

Hi SteveTG,
No one should feel obliged to use Yext - it's an option, not a necessity. I recommend that you go at this manually and correct your citations by hand. If one gets deleted, as in the case of Americantowns.com, create a new listing with the correct information. Bear in mind, too, that one of the issues that's been cited in the Local SEO community regarding Yext is the possibility that they only turn up a single listing per directory, despite the fact that multiple listings may exist - the upshot being that manual research and discovery may still be your best bet. Hope this helps!

SteveTG,
Unfortunately, many directory sites are tied into a larger umbrella company who has a "network" built to provide "value" for their users. Yext is one of the bigger ones. CitySearch and Local.com is others. When you post to them, they can take your listing and pump the info and content into all of their other sites. Aside from what you are trying to do, it's going to be a tough battle, but not impossible... Just could turn into a lot of research to find where you are listed and then to manually get access to your account for edits or manually contacting the site's admins for edits.
We have used UBL.org before, but again, they take your info and send it out to a bunch of places on your behalf (removes work for you and what you pay for essentially).
Hope this was helpful, even though doing this manually (or hiring someone to do this for you) isn't probably what you'd want to hear. - Patrick

What do you use to gather and build Links?
I was just wondering what do most people use for gathering and building links? Is OpenSiteExplorer enough? When I am analysing competitors, there are literally thousands of links, how do you scan them and select the ones you want to use? Any other tools?

Anyone used this service before? - Organic Content Distribution
I was pitched today by a "content syndication network" that claims to be able to syndicate across 200 "local news" sites along with syndicate the content to the editors and writers social sites, along with the publisher social sites for a flat fee. Just like a MarketWire.com service but NOT for press releases. For articles. The company offering this is www.befirstinc.com. Need to vett them out and make sure this is not a FTC nor Google Quality Guidelines violation for SEO purposes.

Thoughts on using the disavow tool for removed links?
Our website has been penalized by Google for the past few months due to unnatural links. We have spent the past 2 months submitting link removal requests to the domain owners with success. However, the Google Webmaster Tools "links to site" has not updated the list. I understand that they update the list of links as they crawl the website, but it has been 6-8 weeks on a lot of them (mostly our biggest offenders). We attempted to send a reconsideration request anyways, hoping Google would see that even though it is still listed, the link isn't actually there. We received a response that it is still in violation, but I believe it is because the webmaster tools links have not updated and perhaps this is what they go off of. Would you recommend submitting these domains to the disavow tool even though our link has already been removed for the past 6-8 weeks? Or even just listing them with the "#" comment tag so they can see they had been removed? Or would you continue waiting for it to update? Of course, we would like the penalty removed as soon as possible and were concerned that the list hadn't removed these websites the past 6-8 weeks our link had been removed. Example: This domain shows we have 3,397 within this website. It was an affiliate that had this URL forwarding to our pages: http://www.binet.lv/go.pl?PID=49276714O2422 . This no longer forwards to our webpage and the affiliate has been expired, but the GWT still shows them at the top of the links list. I also noticed a lot of sites left the links up, but added the nofollow attribute. These are still coming up in the Links list and does not decipher between which do and do not have nofollow. Could the spammy sites with our links as nofollow still be hurting us? Thanks for any help and recommendations!

Is it bad to insert links to other sites and use bold on keywords?
Hi, This is a question I always had doubt about, and would be very grateful in to know your opinions. Is it bad to link to other sites? Can this causes problems to my blog? I frequently insert links in keywords, etc, for other sites. Many times, for sites greater than mine, and I heard from some people that this is bad. Is this correct? In last days, I have used, in some links, the atribute "nofollow". This is good, or not? In a case, for example, when linking to Wikipedia, is it good to use "nofollow"? And about keywords: I'm mostly using bold on them. Is it good, or not? This subject always makes me think. I would be very grateful for any help. 🙂

Do you think it is worth using this directory?
I mean if it will be beneficial for my project (site) to get listed at web-designers-directory.org Any thoughts on that or you had the experience of working with that site?

How useful/ damaging is it to have links repeated on every page ?
Our site is dynamic in nature we have tens of thousands of indexed pages with numerous individual brands pages - all of the brand pages are equally important. We are trying to distribute link juice to those pages as much as possible - so my question is --- Is it smart and or useful or perhaps damaging or spammy to have a space on the bottom of each page throughout our site with links to each and every single brand page ? is this practice considered as duplicate content etc ?
