I believe the "good linkbuilder" term is subjective. I have clients who want to acquire anchor text links(by various means) to increase their rankings but I believe unless you grow your link profile naturally using good content that is well syndicated, you might just shoot yourself in the foot.
I honestly think co citation and authority links are the ways to go. Those can both be acquired by being an authority figure in your niche or at least attempting to contribute valuable insights that gain you attention from teh right people.

Hi Gareth,
I've sent you a private message with some more details of link building services.
In regards to finding relevant websites, it's just a case of thinking outside the box. My primary work is for a kitchen appliance retailer, which is a generally boring topic, however we've build great relationships (and links!) by matching our products to industries such as interior design, eco/green sites, money saving sites etc etc
I've not worked with a client yet who's industry we can't match to an active online community, it just takes a bit of creative thinking.
If you want to let me know some more details of your site or industry I'll come up with some communities you can get in to.
Cheers
David

Thanks Joseph,
What is the going rate for a good link builder these days?
We need white hat and long term to ensure our websites stays high in the search engines..
-
I agree with David,
Take the time to do it right, less links but higher quality links are the way to go, if you are not up to it , you can pay someone to do the high quality link building for you.
it may save your behind in the long run !

Well said, Mr. David Ingram!

Hi Gareth,
The one thing to be wary of with direct link selling companies is that the patterns left on their networks or members sites usually leave a footprint. There have been some pretty cases this year of link networks being completely removed by Google, for example:
http://www.potpiegirl.com/2012/03/the-sky-is-falling/
http://www.buildmyrank.com/news/its-been-a-great-run
Text link ads isn't a network per se, they act as a broken to introduce sites looking to sell links with Webmasters willing to buy them. It's all done through their own software, and they take a cut of a fee. There are two issues that I have personally with these sites:
-
As above, they leave a footprint. For one, when I land on a site I know a text-link-ads.com ad block when I see one, and if I can spot it then you can be pretty confident that Google can find a way to spot it too.
-
When a site is willing to sell text links to the highest bidder, you suddenly find yourself in very spammy company. Do you want a link to your site sat between a link to a casino and a link to a Viagra store? You're putting yourself in bad company.
Actually, as a third point; I often find the kind of sites that are willing to trade links are the kind that are willing to partake in shady SEO practices across the board. You don't want to be relying on links from a site that could get slapped by Google any minute.
I'm not condemning these services, as I know they can work. The problem is they are not really a viable medium/long term strategy, as you're really dancing with the devil. If you want a quick boost, then fill your boots, but if you are concerned about protecting the brand and reputation of your company (or your clients), then I would recommend going down a cleaner root.
The 'white hat' answer to this issue is to hire a professional link builder to go out and obtain you some 'natural' links - by this I mean editorial links on genuine websites that have been earned through outreach and relationships. It might sound like a slower solution, but this isn't necessarily the case as good quality link builders can make the process scalable.
This is a much safer option, protects you from being penalised by Google, and puts you in a much safer neighbourhood than dealing with link dealers.
The real beauty of this route (in my opinion), is that you get higher quality links and it actually works out a fair bit cheaper too.
I wrote an answer earlier in regards to what to look for when outsourcing your link building:

And of course, if you want me to show you the kind of links that can be built, drop me a message
Good luck,
David

Any idea why Google Search Console stopped showing "Internal Links" and "Links to your site"
Our default eCommerce property (https://www.pure-elegance.com) used to show several dozen External Links and several thousand Internal Links on Google Search Console. As of this Friday both those links are showing "No Data Available". I checked other related properties (https://pure-elegance.com, http:pure-elegance.com and http://www.pure-elegance.com) and all of them are showing the same. Our other statistics (like Search Analytics etc.) remain unchanged. Any idea what might have caused this and how to resolve this?

A good experiment to test keyword/vertical difficulty?
I'm trying to rank a brand new client site but getting nowhere for our main keyword/s - this after 6 months. We have built lots of good links and literally tried everything to fix this. What's a good way for me to test the keywords on a different page / domain to be certain the problem isn't with the vertical/keyword? I'd love to have some advice on this vs. how to fix the problem, which I've asked about here before. I'm assuming buying and trying to rank a new domain is a bad idea since sandboxing etc. could make it very difficult. Perhaps sending some links to a Tumblr page that's optimized for the main keyword or something similar? Would love to hear some suggestions - thanks a lot.

Domain.com/postname vs. Domain.com/blog/postname
I am wondering what is the best practice regarding blogs? I read that it would be best to structure a website like a pyramide instead of a flat panckage But I have seen many blogs where the post shows right after the domain name. Domain.com/postname instead of Domains/blog/postname My point is that if a website has many post then the structure will get very flat and this will maybe make your most optimized and important pages less important to google domain.com/page a) What do you think about this, which one of the two blog solutions do you prefer and why? b) in context to blog If for instance you had a keyword like Copenhagen property would you then consider renaming your blog to realetateagent.com/Copenhagen-property-news/post-name c) Would write a little intro like 200 words for the page 1 of your blog and add in some keywords.

Domaim.com/jobs?location=10 is indexed, so is domain.com/jobs/sheffield
Whats the best way you'd tackle that problem? I'm inheriting a website and the old devs had multiple internal links pointing to domain.com/jobs?location=10 (plus a ton of other numbers assigned to locations) and so they've been indexed. I usually use WMTs parameter tool but I'm not sure what the best approach would be other than that. Any help would be appreciated!

Using a 302 re-direct from http://www to https://www to secure customer data
My website sends Customers from a http://www.mysite.com/features page to a https://www.mysite.com/register page which is an account sign-up form using a 302 re-direct. Any page that collects customer data has an authenticated SSL certificate to protect any data on the site. Is this 302 the most appropriate way of doing this as the weekly crawl picks it up as being bad practise? Is there a better alternative?

My website keywords have been almost completely taken out of indexing in Google since 04/26/11 and I cannot determine why, anyone know?
I had 12 to 15 1st page Google rankings in the iPhone, iPad, app review vertical. As of 04/26/11 I have lost all rankings, traffic has gone from 1,000 to 1,200 a day to 150 to 350 a day. I was using a plugin for auto press releases, but have removed this and deleted the urls. I also have changed themes and hosting over the last 3 weeks. I have been trying to get SEO help, but cannot seem to get anyone to help me. thank you Mike
