Local SEO - Page Titles
-
Hi Folks,
Complete newbie (well last 12 months) I have recentley added a blog to my site and have been doing quite a bit of quite word researching through google. I have found some good keywords that have up till now escaped me!
Heres my question because I trying for local traffic, mainly newcastle durham and sunderlanddo i go with one of the following two options
- get two very similar keywords in my article and go for both and rely on google to bring up local listings for the end user in my area
e.g Small garden design | Garden design from the experts. (keywords bold )
- or Garden Design | Newcastle | Sunderland | Durham | so I have geo locations in title
either way I will obviously have both keywords and locations in the artcle
Help please I dont want to write many hours and find I have missed a trick!
Many thank guys n girls!

Hi Easigrassne,
Coming up in Google's local pack of results is dependent upon you having a physical location in the city you're hoping to rank for. If you want to rank in the local results for three cities, you must have a physical location in each. You can then build a landing page on your website for each of your three physical locations and link your three Google+ Local pages to the respective landing pages on your website.
If you do not have physical locations in each of the three cities to which customers come to do business, then you must go after organic rankings via developing content surrounding these locations and your services there. If your business is an SAB (service area business) like a landscaping company, a blog is a great platform for publishing this type of content. For example, you could write a post about lawn installation in City A, perennial border landscaping in City B, and pond building in City C. You can continue to showcase your projects on an ongoing basis, devoting a new blog post to each completed project and developing a library of work that can begin ranking in Google's organic results.

I would go for option 2 if you're targetting local search, i.e. include the three areas you're targetting. Check out Moz's Local Search Ranking Factors: http://moz.com/local-search-ranking-factors (I think it'd look neater to write Newcastle, Sunderland & Durham than have the separators, personally)
The first option - having garden design twice in the page title - is a little spammy.
From a user perspective, you might want to consider having two pages - one for small garden design and one for garden design (i.e. covering regular/larger spaces), if you can show different examples and different considerations for the different space available. I can see that people search for 'small garden design' specifically, as well as just 'garden design' - and you could fit 'small' into the title with the place names (it'd still be under 60 characters) but if that's your only page, it might put off people who have a larger garden and are interested in your services.

What should I do with all these 404 pages?
I have a website that Im currently working on that has been fairly dormant for a while and has just been given a face lift and brought back to life. I have some questions below about dealing with 404 pages. In Google WMT/search console there are reports of thousands of 404 pages going back some years. It says there are over 5k in total but I am only able to download 1k or so from WMT it seems. I ran a crawl test with Moz and the report it sent back only had a few hundred 404s in, why is that? Im not sure what to do with all the 404 pages also, I know that both Google and Moz recommend a mixture of leaving some as 404s and redirect others and Id like to know what the community here suggests. The 404s are a mix of the following: Blog posts and articles that have disappeared (some of these have good back-links too) Urls that look like they used to belong to users (the site used to have a forum) which where deleted when the forum was removed, some of them look like they were removed for spam reasons too eg /user/buy-cheap-meds-online and others like that Other urls like this /node/4455 (or some other random number) Im thinking I should permanently redirect the blog posts to the homepage or the blog but Im not sure what to do about all the others? Surely having so many 404s like this is hurting my crawl rate?

Issue: Duplicate Page Content > Wordpress Comments Page
Hello Moz Community, I've create a campaign in Moz and received hundreds of errors, regarding "Duplicate Page Content". After some review, I've found that 99% of the errors in the "Duplicate Page Content" report are occurring due to Wordpress creating a new comment page (with the original post detail), if a comment is made on a blog post. The post comment can be displayed on the original blog post, but also viewable on a second URL, created by Wordpress. http://www.Example.com/example-post http://www.Example.com/example-post/comment-page-1 Anyone else experience this issue in Wordpress or this same type of report in Moz? Thanks for your help!

Rel canonical for partner sites - product pages only or also homepage and other key pages?
Hello there Our main site is www.arenaflowers.com. We also run a number of partner sites (eg: http://flowershop.cancerresearchuk.org/). We've relcanonical'd the products on the partner site back to the main (arenaflowers.com) site. eg: http://flowershop.cancerresearchuk.org/flowers/tutti_frutti_es_2013 rel canonicals back to: http://www.arenaflowers.com/flowers/tutti_frutti_es_2013). My question: Should we also relcanonical the homepage and other key pages on partner sites back to the main arenaflowers website too? The content is similar but not identical. We don't want our partner sites to be outranking the original (as is the case on kw flower delivery for example). (NB this situation may be complicated by the fact we appear to have an unnatural link penalty on af.com (and when we did an upgrade a while back, the af.com site fell out of the index altogether due to some issues with our move to AWS.) We're getting professional SEO advice on this but wondered what the Moz community's thoughts were.. Cheers, Will

Can Google show the hReview-Aggregate microformat in the SERPs on a product page if the reviews themselves are on a separate page?
Hi, We recently changed our eCommerce site structure a bit and separated our product reviews onto a a different page. There were a couple of reasons we did this : We used pagination on the product page which meant we got duplicate content warnings. We didn't want to show all the reviews on the product page because this was bad for UX (and diluted our keywords). We thought having a single page was better than paginated content, or at least safer for indexing. We found that Googlebot quite often got stuck in loops and we didn't want to bury the reviews way down in the site structure. We wanted to reduce our bounce rate a little, so having a different reviews page could help with this. In the process of doing this we tidied up our microformats a bit too. The product page used to have to three main microformats; hProduct hReview-Aggregate hReview The product page now only has hProduct and hReview-Aggregate (which is now nested inside the hProduct). This means the reviews page has hReview-Aggregate and hReviews for each review itself. We've taken care to make sure that we're specifying that it's a product review and the URL of that product. However, we've noticed over the past few weeks that Google has stopped feeding the reviews into the SERPs for product pages, and is instead only feeding them in for the reviews pages. Is there any way to separate the reviews out and get Google to use the Microformats for both pages? Would using microdata be a better way to implement this? Thanks,
