What are SEO's using for Keyword Research?
-
Hey folks,
I just wanted to find out what everyone is using for keyword research now that the Google Keyword Tool has been retired. I know there is a form of it in Adwords, but something a little more usable than this.
Cheers,
Andy -
I do find this a little clunky compared to other available tools sadly. I have had it for 12 months and never really use it.

I hadn't seen SpuFu before and that also sounds interesting!
I have a lot to look at and try here - thanks for the responses folks and keep 'em coming if there are others!

I use the SEO Power Suite (link-assistant.com). It's not the simplest, but it's pretty complete and easily supplemented by online tools. It's not cheap but it gets accurate data and has multiple customizable features for serious people

The Keyword Snatcher looks pretty amazing Tom! Thanks for sharing that... Think I will be grabbing a sub there

Absolutely loving Keyword Snatcher right now. One-off fee and an absolute beast.

Adwords (keywords tool in all different options of search and keywords suggestion) & Semrush (paid and free version available, good also for competitors analysis).
They are both very good I think. Other sources you can find at strumenti seo

How is it possible to rank first for a keyword, when the keyword isn't written on the page?
I noticed that one of our competitors is ranking in first position for a keyword but when looking on the page grader. The exact keyword is not used on the page at all (or in title, URL etc.). How is this possible, when other sites have content with those exact words?

Target multiple keywords on homepage?
Hello. I've got a situation in which I could use some help. A client is in the business of auto parts for European cars. He is VERY stubborn in wanting his homepage to rank 1st page for a keyword for each car brand, for example: audi autoparts bmw autoparts mercedes benz autoparts jaguar autoparts Basically, 15 keywords (one per brand) in total. How would you guys handle this? I can't seem to find a natural way to optimize a homepage for all these keywords at once. I've suggested landing pages for each brand/keyword, but he won't accept it. Is there anyway to do this or will this be a dispute with my client to convince him about the landing pages idea? Thanks a lot!

Hit by Panda, what's the quickest way to remove content
One of our client's sites got hit by panda/penguin. after careful investigation we found that the site had 6,900 pages indexed out of which about 300 are actual pages (pages with quality content and add value to the user). Needless to say we had to remove all those pages. Most of the thin pages were on the blog section of the site so we removed the WP which was on www.mysite.com/blog/. My question is how can i speed up the process for Google to realize that i have taken all those this pages down. i have fetched the homepage and all linked pages via "Fetch as Google Bot" on WMT. is there anything else i can do to speed this up???

Keyword selection and search counts
I am a new pro member and have noticed that a lot of my keywords are very similar. i.e. "piano movers Atlanta" vs. "Atlanta piano movers" vs. "piano movers in Atlanta" Is there an accurate way to see search counts for each of these terms do determine which one I should target? Does anyone have any recommended tools or strategies?

Keyword Dulication in Tags
As I mostly work with Belgian/Dutch customers, my keywords are often in Dutch. We have a lot of composite words such as "hooikoortsklachten" or "hooikoortverwachting". If i were to create a Page Title with content: Hooikoortsklachten | hooikoortsverwachting Is this parly duplicated (because of the word hooikoorts x2)? or does Google only consider the entire word? Insights would be much appreciated! Thanks
