How To Determine ROI For Specific Keywords
-
I have been looking through our analytics, and nealy all our conversions are from (not provided) keywords. I am trying to find the keywords that are performing best and also to determine the return I am getting from SEO efforts.
I have been told the "not provided" keywords are due to people being logged into Google when they browse. However, this doesn't make sense to me. How is it that only the keywords that convert are "not provided"?
Can anyone help with this?

At the beginning of this year Google started encrypting searches for google users that were logged into their google account while they were online doing searches. Because of that change Google says they cant pass the keyword in the referring URL. Google puts these keywords that aren't defined into a "bucket" which is not provided. It sucks because we all know this is valuable data.
There are some options regarding tracking down and recovering this data because Google doesn't pass the keyword data to the referring URL but it does pass the data to Webmaster Tools...........here is a link to a solid article on it. (see below)

It seems daunting at first but once you do it, it can be much easier to recover. And if you have enough traffic it is worth it......
Hope this helps you..

Where does the organic keyword information come from in Google Analytics?
I know that Google switch to all encrypted search, but I still show some keywords. Are those keywords that slipped through? Or are they all from Yahoo/Bing?

Does Google encryption of keyword data impact SEO revenue reporting in Google analytics?
Hi there, I know Google has been encrypting SEO keyword data which they rolled out in September 2013. My question is - will this impact SEO revenue figures reported in Google analytics? I have been monitoring SEO revenue figures for a client and they are significantly down even though rankings have not lowered. Is this because of Google's encryption? Could there be another reason? Many thanks!

Large content snippets showing up as keywords?
I've started to notice something very strange: the search keywords report in analytics show a bunch of instances where a person copied large snippets of our site content and then pasted it into the search box. Half these searches are coming from the US and half from...India. I'm worried that this may be the sign of a competitor attempting to perform negative SEO on our site (though admittedly I don't know how). Anyone seen anything like this? Advice? Thanks!!

Is Google able to determine duplicate content every day/ month?
A while ago I talked to somebody who used to work for MSN a couple of years ago within their engineering department. We talked about a recent dip we had with one of our sites. We argued this could be caused by the large amount of duplicate content we have on this particular website (+80% of our site). Then he said, quoted: "Google seems only to be able to determine every couple of months instead of every day if the content is actually duplicate content". I clearly don't doubt that duplicate content is a ranking factor. But I would like to know you guys opinions about Google being only able to determine this every couple of X months instead of everyday. Have you seen or heard something similar?

What impact will Google's 10/18/2011 announcement of 'Making Search More Secure' have on the ability to track specific keyword queries via Analytics?
The full announcement is here: http://googleblog.blogspot.com/2011/10/making-search-more-secure.html My concern is that the ability for Google Analytics to parse information on specific keyword queries will be diminished. The article hints that Google Webmaster Tools will be exempt from the problem, and I've never relied on Webmaster tools as a go-to for tying specific keyword queries to Goal Tracking (form submissions and sales). The community's thoughts on this one are appreciated. 🙂
