What to do when all products are one of a kind WYSIWYG and url's are continuously changing. Lots of 404's
-
Hey Guys, I'm working on a website with WYSIWYG one of a kind products and the url's are continuously changing. There are allot of duplicate page titles (56 currently) but that number is always changing too.
Let me give you guys a little background on the website. The site sells different types of live coral. So there may be anywhere from 20 - 150 corals of the same species. Each coral is a unique size, color etc. When the coral gets sold the site owner trashes the product creating a new 404. Sometimes the url gets indexed, other times they don't since the corals get sold within hours/days. I was thinking of optimizing each product with a keyword and re-using the url by having the client update the picture and price but that still leaves allot more products than keywords.
Here is an example of the corals with the same title http://austinaquafarms.com/product-category/acans/
Thanks for the help guys. I'm not really sure what to do.

Hey Aron
Just wanted to chime in on the wordpress bit. EGOL nailed the core answer though. But for the noindex, yes you can just noindex any pages you want to and this isn't going to cause any issues. Noindexed pages do not count towards Panda or low user metrics in the algo, so it's a great way to let the content exist but not have it cause trouble in the SERPs.

The way woocommerce works is by creating a custom post type. (similar to a regular blog post but styled for products) and then dynamically adds the products to a product category page or anywhere else I want them displayed. Creating a custom post type for products also enables allot of customization and even advanced reporting.

....but the product url will always be there.
I agree..... but if you never link to that page then Google should not know about it.
I am not familiar with Wordpress and Woocommerce, however, the shopping systems that I have used all allowed me to create "add to cart" buttons. I could place these anywhere on the site - even in pdf documents. I have never used the product pages that my shopping systems produce. Why? I think that I can make product pages that are better optimzied for search and better arranged for customers. So, I have lots of pages on my site that list multiple items and almost no pages that list a single item. This has saved me a lot of time, I think that my site competes a lot better, I think that it makes more convenient shopping and I believe that I sell a lot more.

Well I'm not sure it's possible to remove the product pages since the site is built with WordPress and Woocommerce. Each product creates a url. I can create a quick view box with an add to cart button for a better user experience but the product url will always be there.
Thinking about what you said I may have a few options but I may be way off.
1. I can optimize the category page for the product keywords with more content and details. Then I can noindex all the product pages.
2. I can optimize the single product pages and add unique content to each product for about 10 products and noindex the rest.
Not sure if noindexing would be the right way to do it or if it would add more issues. Since I'm using WordPress and the yoast seo plugin I can have the website owner check the noindex button on all new products created. What do you think?
As far as content we are in the process of putting together a full content strategy and will have many tutorials and other great care info along with industry tips and blog posts.

Awesome coral! Awesome. http://austinaquafarms.com/product-category/acans/
If this was my site, I would make it just a few pages. One page for each type of coral.
The individual product pages on the site right now have almost no information. So, I would put all of the information on a huge category page and optimize it perfectly for the type of coral. Plus I would add several authoritative paragraphs of text onto the page - maybe in the right side bar with background info about the type of coral, how to care for it, tips for making it do well in your tank. This extra content will enable the page to be more competitive and will pull in traffic for long tail keywrods.
Eliminating the product pages will eliminate the 404 problems, simplify maintaining the site and when visitor lands on the Acans page they will say WOW! I think you will sell more... from this presentation... no guarantees, just my gut.
I also believe that it will pull all of the power that has seeped into the product pages back into the category page. From my experience, a compact site with a small number of pages competes a LOT better than a larger site with a bunch of pages with very thin content.
Those thin content pages also put this site at risk for Panda problems if it does not have them already.

Changing URLs
URLs of my web pages are based on the titles of pages. For sampel, if a title page is called "product ABC", then the URL for this page is /product-abc. Google and all other search engines have indexed all pages. Now I want to change the titles of some sites. Should I change the URLs accordingly, or should I rather leave URLs as they are. SEO Best Practice says that keywords must be placed both in the title, and in the URL. I think that Google will think that pages have douplicate content with diffrent titles, and it comes to many 404 error, if I change the URLs. What do you recommend in this case?

How necessary is it to disavow links in 2017? Doesn't Google's algorithm take care of determining what it will count or not?
Hi All, So this is a obvious question now. We can see sudden fall or rise of rankings; heavy fluctuations. New backlinks are contributing enough. Google claims it'll take care of any low quality backlinks without passing pagerank to website. Other end we can many scenarios where websites improved ranking and out of penalty using disavow tool. Google's statement and Disavow tool, both are opposite concepts. So when some unknown low quality backlinks are pointing and been increasing to a website? What's the ideal measure to be taken?

Should I change client's keyword stuffed URLs?
Hi Guys, We currently have a client that offers reviews and preparation classes for their industry (online and offline). One of the main things that I have noticed is how all of their product landing page urls are stuffed with keywords. I have read changing url's will impact up to 25% traffic and to not mess with url's unless it is completely needed. My question is, when url's are stuffed with keywords and make the url length over 200 characters, should I be focusing on a more structured url system?

Getting into Google News, URL's & Sitemaps
Hello, I know that one of the 'technical requirements' to get into google news is that the URL's have unique numbers at the end, BUT, that requirement can be circumvented if you have a Google News Sitemap. I've purchased the Yoast Google News Sitemap (https://yoast.com/wordpress/plugins/news-seo/) BUT just found out that you cannot submit a google news Sitemap until you are accepted into google news. Thus, my question is that do you need to add the digits to the URL's temporarily until you get in and can submit a google news sitemap, OR, is it ok to apply without them and take care of the sitemap after you get in. If anyone has any other tips about getting into Google News that would be great! Thanks!

Duplicate content when changing a site's URL due to algorithm penalty
Greetings A client was hit by penguin 2.1, my guess is that this was due to linkbuilding using directories. Google webmaster tools has detected about 117 links to the site and they are all from directories. Furthermore, the anchor texts are a bit too "perfect" to be natural, so I guess this two factors have earned the client's site an algorithm penalty (no manual penalty warning has been received in GWT). I have started to clean some of the backlinks, on Oct the 11th. Some of the webmasters I asked complied with my request to eliminate backlinks, some didn´t, I disavowed the links from the later. I saw some improvements on mid october for the most important KW (see graph) but ever since then the rankings have been falling steadily. I'm thinking about giving up on the domain name and just migrating the site to a new URL. So FINALLY MY QUESTION IS: if I migrate this 6-page site to a new URL, should I change the content completely ? I mean, if I just copy paste the content of the curent site into a new URL I will incur in dpolicate content, correct?. Is there some of the content I can copy ? or should I just start from scratch? Cheers hRggeNE

Do links to PDF's on my site pass "link juice"?
Hi, I have recently started a project on one of my sites, working with a branch of the U.S. government, where I will be hosting and publishing some of their PDF documents for free for people to use. The great SEO side of this is that they link to my site. The thing is, they are linking directly to the PDF files themselves, not the page with the link to the PDF files. So my question is, does that give me any SEO benefit? While the PDF is hosted on my site, there are no links in it that would allow a spider to start from the PDF and crawl the rest of my site. So do I get any benefit from these great links? If not, does anybody have any suggestions on how I could get credit for them. Keep in mind that editing the PDF's are not allowed by the government. Thanks.

Best Product URL For Indexing
My proposed URL: mydomain.com/products/category/subcategory/product detail Puts my products 4 levels deep. Is this too deep to get my products indexed?
