Duplicate Title Errors on Product Category Pages - The best practice?
-
I'm getting quite a few 'Duplicate Title Error' on category pages which span over 2 - 3 pages.
E.g.
- http://www.partwell.com/cutting-punches?page=1
- http://www.partwell.com/cutting-punches?page=2
- http://www.partwell.com/cutting-punches?page=3
All 4 pages currently have the same title... <title>Steel Cutting Punches</title>
I was thinking of adding Page Numbers to the title of each corresponding page, thus making them all unique and clearing the Duplicate Page Title errors.
E.g.
- <title>Steel Cutting Punches</title>
- <title>Steel Cutting Punches | Page 1 of 3</title>
- <title>Steel Cutting Punches | Page 2 of 3</title>
- <title>Steel Cutting Punches | Page 3 of 3</title>
Is this the best way to go around it? Or is there another way that I'm not thinking of?
Would I need to use the rel=canonical tag to show that the original page is the one I want to be found?
Thanks

I suppose this is the best solution for your problem.
The canonical tag wouldn't be as appropriate as this one.
Good luck!

Hello
Yes - I found this blog post after I had submitted the question.
Looks like this could be the solution.
Thanks

Hello there,
You might want to look into rel=prev rel=next without having to change the page titles.

Hope it helps.

URL structure for a product that belongs to several categories
Hi, We are setting up the URL structure for a big webshop and this raised the following questions regarding the URL's for products that belong to several categories (most of the products do, so the same approach would be used for products that just belong to one category). There are three options in my point of view: Use root-level product page URLs (limits trackability in Analytics software because you can not specify on product types)
Reporting & Analytics | | Mat_C
URL: example.com/product-1/ Use product type URL directories for all products (which at least offers minimum trackability of all separate product types in Analytics software)
URL: example.com/book/product-1/ Use product URLs built upon category URL structures, but ensure that each product page URL has a single, designated canonical URL.
URL: example.com/category-A/product-1/ with canonical= example.com/category-A/product-1/ URL: example.com/category-B/product-1/ with canonical= example.com/category-A/product-1/ Which option is the preferred one? Thanks!0 -
Are these Search Console crawl errors a major concern to new client site?
We recently (4/1) went live with a new site for a client of ours. The client site was originally Point2 before they made the switch to a template site with Real Estate Webmasters. Now when I look into the Search Console I am getting the following Crawl Errors: 111 Server Errors (photos) 104 Soft 404s (blogs, archives, tags) 6,229 Not Found (listings) I have a few questions. The server errors I know not a lot about so I generally ignore. My main concerns are the 404s and not found. The 404s are mostly tags and blog archives which I wonder if I should leave alone or do 301s for each to /blog. For not found, these are all the previous listings from the IDX. My assumption is these will naturally fall away after some time, as the new ones have already indexed. But I wonder what I should be doing here and which will be affecting me. When we launched the new site there was a large spike in clicks ( 250% increase) which has now tapered off to an average of ~85 clicks versus ~160 at time of launch. Not sure if the Crawl Errors have any effect, I'm guessing not so much right now. I'd appreciate your insights Mozzers!

Google Analytics Landing Page Report Discrepancy
I have noticed that when I run a landing page report and use the advanced option so I can view only the landing pages that include a particular string in the URL, have noticed that I in the report, the graph at the top will say one thing, but the data below says something else. For example, the graph for one particular search shows 200 Impressions, but the info below says 700 impressions and 610 clicks. Anyone seen anything similar or have any ideas why? Thanks! Craig
