I don't get it... A Grade, etc
-
I have an A grade for a specific keyword, my competitors ranked above me have poor grades.
My "Root Domains Linking to the Page" is higher than competitors ranked above me.
Yet I'm ranked 7th on google.
Even worse the 3rd place ranked URL has very poor page authority and linking. What is giving these poor sites such great rankings?

Hi Tyler,
In addition to what Fredrico said, I would recommend running a "Full Report" in the keyword difficulty tool. This will give you over 20 more data points to analyze.
Some of the factors to look for include inbound anchor text, which may or may not include a mix of partial and exact match anchor text.
Like Fredrico said, Google uses over 200 signals to rank each page - some are more elusive and harder to measure than others. For a small hint, you may want to look at our most recent Ranking Factors Survey, especially the predictions and opinions from the experts as to what goes into Google's algorithm.

There are over 200 factors Google considers to rank sites. I've seen sites that are just published being ranked above sites with over 7 or more years in business. It all changes and their algorithm is always trying to guess what is the visitor looking for.
In my niche, there are 2 sites above me, ranked 2nd and 3rd, with no authority, no backlinks, no content, not a good design/page/service, etc, still they are STILL there.
The data Moz shows can give you a CLUE on how is your site performing, but it will be even better if you see their data as trends. For example, you start to create new content daily, GOOD, interesting content, you then see a boost in your rankings, still not getting the place you think you deserve, don't worry, that trend shows you that creating content is working, keep doing it.
You can also ask for some help in the Google Webmaster Forums, the guys there are usually rude, but almost always right
Hope that helps.

My "search visibility" went from 3% to 0% and I don't know why.
My search visibility on here went from 3.5% to 3.7% to 0% to 0.03% and now 0.05% in a matter of 1 month and I do not know why. I make changes every week to see if I can get higher on google results. I do well with one website which is for a medical office that has been open for years. This new one where the office has only been open a few months I am having trouble. We aren't getting calls like I am hoping we would. In fact the only one we did receive I believe is because we were closest to him in proximity on google maps. I am also having some trouble with the "Links" aspect of SEO. Everywhere I see to get linked it seems you have to pay. We are a medical office we aren't selling products so not many Blogs would want to talk about us. Any help that could assist me with getting a higher rank on google would be greatly appreciated. Also any help with getting the search visibility up would be great as well.

Why some websites can rank the keywords they don't have in the page?
Hello guys, Yesterday, I used SEMrush to search for the keyword "branding agency" to see the SERP. The Liquidagency ranks 5th on the first page. So I went to their homepage but saw no exact keywords "branding agency", even in the page source. Also, I didn't see "branding agency" as a top anchor text in the external links to the page (from the report of SEMrush). I am an SEO newbie, can someone explain this to me, please? Thank you.

Is this all that is needed for a 'canonical' tag?
Hello, I have a Joomla site. I have put in a plugin to make the page source show: eg. <link href="[http://www.ditalia.com.au/designer-fabrics-designer-fabric-italian-material-and-french-lace](view-source:http://www.ditalia.com.au/designer-fabrics-designer-fabric-italian-material-and-french-lace)" rel="<a class="attribute-value">canonical</a>" /> Is this all that is need to tell the search engines to ignore the any other links or indexed pages with a url which is created automatically by the system before the SEF urls are initiated?

Was anyone hit by BOTH the 'Phantom' update as well as Penguin 2.0?
I'm interested to know if Phantom was just a "pre-Penguin" 2.0 or if it was a completely different update. Thoughts?

Are This Site's Backlinks Hurting Us?
Google WMT reports more than 198,000 backlinks to our site (www.audiobooksonline.com) from http://dilandau.eu/? We have never been notified by Google of any penalty, malware notification... but continue to struggle to get our page 1 Google ranking back since Panda. Could these backlinks be hurting our Google ranking? Should I implement a disavow rule for http://dilandau.eu/?

How can Google index a page that it can't crawl completely?
I recently posted a question regarding a product page that appeared to have no content. [http://www.seomoz.org/q/why-is-ose-showing-now-data-for-this-url] What puzzles me is that this page got indexed anyway. Was it indexed based on Google knowing that there was once content on the page? Was it indexed based on the trust level of our root domain? What are your thoughts? I'm asking not only because I don't know the answer, but because I know the argument is going to be made that if Google indexed the page then it must have been crawlable...therefore we didn't really have a crawlability problem. Why Google index a page it can't crawl?

How to make an AJAX site crawlable when PushState and #! can't be used?
Dear Mozzers, Does anyone know a solution to make an AJAX site crawlable if: 1. You can't make use of #! (with HTML snapshots) due to tracking in Analytics 2. PushState can't be implemented Could it be a solution to create two versions of each page (one without #!, so campaigns can be tracked in Analytics & one with #! which will be presented to Google)? Or is there another magical solution that works as well? Any input or advice is highly appreciated! Kind regards, Peter
