Does having our products on Amazon or EBay help with our SEO ranking?
-
We have an ecommerce web site, which ranks ok , but we are trying to build up our SEO scores. We're looking at links and were wondering if having our products listed on either Amazon or Ebay (or both) will actually help with ranking of our site? We sometimes have products listed on ebay with a reference to the higher price that the item is selling for on our main site. Thank you.

Here is my experience...
Client runs a large ecommerce site and also creates a feed that is used for the Amazon listings.
When title on ecommerce site = title on amazon, only the amazon listing ranks (images and product descriptions are the same)
When title on ecommerce site is slightly different than title on amazon (e.g. "brand model t-shirt" vs "brand men's model t-shirt"), both of the pages rank in search.
So titles MUST be different in all channels, images/descriptions should be different, but not nearly as important. If you have a handful of products, I'd invest the time in creating several variations of the descriptions/images. If you have thousands, you are better off spending your resources elsewhere.

Thanks for the response. We do indeed already supply our products to both the sites, and we do get sufficient incremental sales. However, we have had some mixed / conflicting guidance as to wether we should use the same product names or images on all sites (our e-commerce, amazon, ebay and even the high street retailers where we list our products). We are considering investing in a different set of images and changing the product names for each channel, but we are unclear if this will benefit our SEO. What would the advise be on this, if any?
Thank you.

I'm sure Google gives special treatment to those websites so we can't be too sure. However, what you should be asking is if listing your products in Amazon and Ebay will lead to more sales/ROI. If yes, do it.
Be sure to use slightly different keywords/titles for your listings so they don't come up as duplicates so that all 3 show up in search results. At the very least, your product will gain more exposure, drive more traffic to your site and open up more opportunities for natural backlinks.

Will links from startup/tech blogs help a site rank for *money* keywords?
If a startup has a tech blog (say, domain.com/tech) and a startup journey blog (on domain.com/journey — think groovehq.com/blog), will garnering high PA/DA links to those pages help the root domain rank for keywords related to the startup's services? For example, continuing the Groove example, will quality links to their aforementioned startup blog help them rank the homepage for Online Help Desk Software? Even when those links are from non-helpdesk content on non-helpdesk sites? My theory is that links from high DA sites won't be a bad thing — as long as they're not from spammy pages and done naturally. In some niches, where it's hard to get organic product-related links, this might be a worthwhile strategy. Am I right? Or sadly misguided...? 🙂 EDIT: BTW. The niche I have in mind is fairly uncompetitive, and it'd be easier to garner links from the startup/tech community than the niche community itself.

Forum signature links and SEO
Regarding this article on forum signature links, is this good advice? http://searchtempo.com/forum-signature-links-and-seo/ Doesn't Google suggest a nofollow on these types of forum links? On a related matter, is it a good practice to add a Google Plus link in forum signatures? Best,

How to do SEO for famous fortune 500 companies
Hello SEOmoz, I have a question to you guys. How typically SEO should be done to fortune 500 comnpanies who are very much famous offline. The problem I see is any links built gets attention and media can make a big deal out of it. For eg: The recent JCPenney SEO issue. Though their paid links got them penalized, other traditional methods can also not fit their stratgy. Here are the traditional methods and how it can not be applied to them. Commenting on blogs - Well, it is reputation here. If some one sees a link on blog comments, it might be fishy and can be named as blog spammers. Forum marketing - Same here. The reputation of clients can go down. Paid post / Paid links - Again risky Please suggest how to build link for type of famous clients. Please do not give stratgic level of advice, but be more specific in your answer. For eg: Do this kind of link building and don't do y. etc., Looking forward for ur answers. Thanks
