Can links from an old site raise DA for other site? Or just unethical?
-
So this may be an odd question.
So a competing company went out of business.
Their domain name is now available.
So just for research purposes, would you ever or would it be unethical for a person to buy an expired competing domain name, and point it to another site to collect their link juice?
The site was only a DA of 10, but not sure if one - its bad to buy a competing companies expired domain - and two - even though in the same industry, this would be bad to point it to another site or create a site from it.
Just curious your thoughts.

Ok, so company ran out of business, the domain got expired; you bought it and point it back to your website. I don’t see anything wrong, technically!
The only thing you should consider checking is the link profile of the domain because a bad link profile can lead you to an unexpected bad situation, where as a good link profile will only help.
The question is how people will react to it? This is very much depends upon industry to industry, customer base and business itself. Let’s say the company which ran out of business contain a bad offline reputation, redirecting a domain might redirect the reputation as well (same is for the positive side).
You have technical details clear but before making a move, make sure about how you potential and current clients feel about it.
Hope this helps!

You could use this strategy, if you wanted. There is nothing wrong with assimilating an x-competitors domain URL and turning that ownership into a site your company uses and 301 redirects (perhaps they had a strong brand following?). You might be able to leverage some of that related traffic and turn those visitors into customers. You will want to look at the DA/PA, but as well, the # and quality of the backlinks that were acquired during the process when they owned it. Make absolutely sure it's a clean URL, with clean related backlinks that aren't tied to bad areas, because that will funnel down through to your site via the 301 redirect, if you go this route.
I had this happen to a company/client site. They stole an expired domain from the main competitor who was still in business and re-appropriated it for their own use in PAY DAY LOANS (which had absolutely nothing to do with the original destination URL it was originally taken from). Then, that SPAM site/company went out of business for whatever reason, and I was tracking the domain to re-acquire it myself (through auction) and hopefully be able to re-use it for the main site. The site's profile will probably need a major backlink analysis to see if it has been corrupted by this company who bought it when it expired and used it for spam related work. Auugggh.
Sometimes, these types of strategies do work, but you have to carefully evaluate and plan the benefits vs the cons and cost. I'll leave it up to you, but that's my 2 cents
Cheers!

I can also see, that today there almost havent been any new sign-ups so something happened.
I didnt change anything. On issue, which might have something to do with it, is that I own several "copies" of the same site, just in different countries (domains). I host the websites myself, and they are all on the same server. The text and design in the same in some of the countries except that "jobs" are unique for the country. I also have:
onlinecasting.ae (english)
onlinecasting.sg (english)
onlinecasting.mx
and more coming So, could that be the reason, that google somehow now decided, that it wont accept the "allmost same site"?0 -
Online Store in trouble - What can I check?
Hello, One of our online stores has half the traffic that it did a month ago. What can I check and what can I do to troubleshoot? I can't list the domain here, but what would you suggest? Could RankBrain be the problem? So far I've Checked the functionality of the site including the checkout functionality Checked rankings for main terms, they seem to be holding Checked competitors, there's some sales but I don't see that cutting us off this much. Added content continuously for the past 2 months - quality, targeted, helpful Updated the home page text to be more helpful recently Checked for structural changes that would effect backlinks - found none. Analyzed Google Analytics, still looking deeper. What would you suggest as further troubleshooting?

Different site behind the flag
Hello, I am in a very complicated situation. I have a site in Itaian which is targeted in Italy by webmaster tools so the majority of the organic traffic comes from there and everything is fine. However this site got a link from a major international site. So now I get traffic from all over the world but I can't take advantage of it. From the Italian traffic I get from this site I see high pageviews numbers and many minutes in average visitor time. The problem in this situation is that for many reasons this website cannot be translated so I can put many language choices in this site. I want to ask, If I put, let's say an English flag in top of my site, that will indicate the English language, but instead of the user to see an English version of the site he/she will be redirected(no follow link) to another site of the same content in English, will this violate any of Google's guideline or hurt the seo of the original site? Thank you all!

Internal Links to Ecommerce Category Pages
Hello, I read a while back, and I can't find it now, that you want to add internal links to your main category pages. Does that still apply? If so, for a small site (100 products) what is recommended? Thanks

Is guest posting good for main link-building tactic for eCommerce site
Hello, Is guest posting going to be devalued? We've been offering a guest post with one link in the body pointing towards one of our articles, and one home page link in the bio. We're looking at doing this as the main link building strategy. Is this still a good idea now and in the future? Thanks!

How to stop links from sites that have plagurized my blogs
I have been hit hard by Penguin 2.0. My webmaster explains that I have many links to my articles (a medical website with quality content) from "bad sites." These sites publish my articles with my name and link to my site and it appears I have posted my articles on their site although I have not posted them-theses sites have copied and pasted my articles. Is there a way to prevent sites from posting my content on their site with links to my site?

Too many links... OOPS
So I made a big mistake. I know it was dumb. I took a chance and got screwed. I've been researching one of my competitions back links and found that about 7000 of their 12000 links came from one site. Upon further investigation that site is a page rank 7 and the link looked bought. My competitions page rank is 6 which I thought was largely because of this one link. I e-mailed the linking sites webmaster and they bought the link pretty cheap. So I thought... Hey!? Why not! About two weeks later, today, google webmaster tools finally found the link and my links went from 100 to 7100. Now that I really think about it, I know it was a stupid move. I just figured if they got away with it, I could. I'm a white hat seo'er from now on. I've learned my lesson. Wake up today and find that all 400 keywords I am attempting to rank for, which 60% used to be in the top 3, are now not in the top 100. Luckily I am still indexed in Google though, I'm just not ranking for anything significant. Now I e-mailed the linking sites webmaster and had him remove the links. He was pretty quick about putting them up, so I figure they'll be down today. Is it just a matter of Google realizing that they're gone until I'm back in the SERPS? Or am I screwed for good? This is a little scary, I depend on Google for my entire livelihood. Yeah, I know not something I should be gambling with then. I only spent $125 on the links, but every month of traffic is worth about $3k to me. Ouch. If I lose a few months I'm at least looking at a $10k hit. Please give me some good news 😞
