Www.partybox.co.uk - Why cannot improve the position for "party supplies"
-
About 4 Months ago I submitted a Disavow file to Google for www.partybox.co.uk which seemed to have improved the position across many terms. However the main term "party supplies" I cannot get to rank any higher than page 6 in the UK.
I have no penalties in webmaster tools. Should I see if I can collect anymore links that could be holding the website back for ranking for party supplies or what should i be looking to do ?
The website ranks well for other terms that the home page is optimised for such as party stuff but not for party supplies
any advice would be great
thanks
Adam

Hi Adam
There could be a number of factors at play here that Google, predictably and unhelpfully, is deliberately ambiguous about. There's evidence to suggest that there are individual keyword penalties and individual page penalties that can be placed on your website which can take a while to expire or lift. Similarly, the penguin part of the algorithm may have penalised your site for that term, in which case you would need to see the algorithm refresh (which should be happening soon, according to reports) in order to see your rankings return for that page. And finally because of the links that you have disavowed, there might not be many links to help power your return for that keyword position altogether (although your other rankings might prove this to be false).
I'm afraid a lot of this is guesswork, but there are steps you can take to be proactive and to see if you can recover rankings for that term. One option would be to optimise that term on a different page altogether - can you see an increase in rankings if you do this? If yes, it might indicate a page penalty. If no, it might still be a keyword penalty/penguin penalty yet to expire.
And finally, like you say, you may be able to find more links that need to be removed/disavowed in order to satisfy the algorithm. I'm very encouraged that you have disavowed some links and seen an increase already, so perhaps a deeper search will yield further results. If you have exhausted this avenue and still see no improvement, I would experiment with trying to rank that term on another page on your website, or perhaps even a sub-domain.
I hope this helps.

Can I include "commissioned" posts in my link building strategy?
Ok "Commissioned Posts" meaning industry influencers/bloggers etc writing about your brand, products or services and possibly "linking" to your website (in exchange for money, or not) a) I'm contacted by a blogger who wants to write a piece about our product and naturally links back. b) A blogger says, yes, we can write a fantastic article about your brand and link to you for $$$..$ - is this ok if not at scale? What is deemed as ethical? I want to make sure our link building campaign is done within Google's guidelines. Here is currently what we are doing, or intending to do; 1. We're producing unique content on our site and sharing this with key influencers organically on Twitter, Facebook and G+ communities. This so far is working well for a new start up. 2. Writing guest posts on authoritative sites (with only our author bio at the bottom, branded link to our site, social links) sharing knowledge or interesting content which readers will want to read. Sites like HuffPost, The Guardian would be great although we're starting on authoritative well maintained blogger sites within the industry to begin. 3. Reaching out to industry influencers who may like to review our products. Many of them have got back to me stating that they "can" run commissioned posts (normally requires a large fee) which carries a followed link, branded or unbranded. Although we may have initially contacted them, and money could be exchanged, in the eyes of Google wouldn't this appear as a natural post? Please let me know your thoughts on this? It would be great to gain more of an understanding exactly what I can or cannot do when it comes to developing high quality links for our business! Your feedback (sharing any examples if possible) would be truly appreciated. Thanks Gary

Need referrals on expert to clean up "unnatural links" and submit reconsideration request
I just received a manual unnatural links penalty. I was shocked because other than maybe five links many years ago, I've not done anything to get links. The site is very powerful in it's own right and buying links is unnecessary. My first thought was a competitor has done the link spamming on my behalf, any my site is very profitable and the competitors are plentiful and ruthless (i.e. steal my content and use it) since we are #1 for our search term. I took a quick look at my links (via webmaster tools) just now and yes, in the last few months there are tons of links from very bad looking sites that are I've never heard of. It's obvious I've been purposefully hit by a competitor. (What's it called when they do this?) Does Google understand at all that this stuff goes on? Do they even care? On the eventual reconsideration request, if I say that I honestly didn't do those links, would they even believe me or even care? I have read several articles on what to do now. But this is so important to my income stream that I don't want to screw anything up trying to fix it, and I want to get it right the first time. Every day is very expensive to me. So, I'd like to get some recommendations on any experts that can handle this professionally and swiftly. Please let me know of anyone trustworthy that won't rip me off, and if you are such a professional yourself, please let me know. Thank you

Do links to my website improve all pages?
I'm currently building links to my home page (through directories) and blog pages. However, none of these pages are actually targeted pages for main keywords. In SEO, do links to any webpage of a site contribute to the improved rank of other pages?

Remove Unatural Links by SEO Co.
The SEO firm we hired built 2797 links with 123 domain within two month period (March and April) when we don't know better. We received Google's warning on 3/28, and they didn't tell us anything but keep building. Well, that's history now. We learned our lesson. That's why we are a member of SEOmoz. The SEO firm is not too keen on helping us remove the link (we've discontinue the service) after one initial attempt to a few site with tons of links (performed by their Indian team). I've got advice from this Forum regarding link removal. The most suggestions we get is to remove it as many as possible and move on building good links. But, I am afraid such approach will take us years to come ahead as we are under staffed. I saw here that someone mentioned their link building firm wants to charge $10 for links removed. Based on that idea, I wonder if I should offer some monetary incentive? If so, what amount would make financial sense?
