How Does Google Deal with Negative Reviews or Mentions
-
I would really like to get everyone's opinion on how you all think Google deals with negative reviews, or just mentions on negative websites. One of my clients has a page on a powerful negative website (one that is designed to shame all those on it), and no other real reviews around the web.
I have never seen any evidence that Google takes positive or negative reviews into account when ranking websites. But maybe one of you has?
Currently when you search for my client by name, the negative website comes up second, which is obviously embarrassing for them. If we sought out a whole load of positive (obviously genuine) reviews from happy clients, do you think this might influence the prominent placement of this negative website?
Also would it influence the ranking of the website in general? I would love to hear your opinions on this topic.
[BTW We have already explored the path of the right to be forgotten, but it seems to be inundated so we are not holding our breaths.]

Hi,
In my opinion, Google definitely does take certain reviews into account when ranking sites. What I mean by that, is reviews that can actually be measured numerically.
These are the two types of reviews that I believe affect rankings:
- Google + reviews
- Reviews using schema to markup the rating
Both the above can be easily measured by using the number of stars, points etc (which all represent a percentage out of 100%).
By using a very simple algorithm, you could collect this information from across the internet and calculate how well on average a particular website (this can also be done for products, recipes etc.) ranks with the public.
We have also had our fair share of negative reviews (it has to be expected) and have actively sought to increase our positive ones (honestly and naturally) to combat this. For us, it seems to have worked successfully.
What's your opinion on this?

Shall I hide short product review texts from customers (to avoid google panda/quality issues)?
About 30% of product reviews that the clients of our ecommerce store submitted in the last 10 years are 3 words or less (we did not require any minimum length). Would you recommend to hide those very short review texts? Where to draw the limit?

Numeric star rating would still go into our accumulated product rating. My only concern here is what impact it may have on google ranking.
To give some context, the site has for a long time some panda/phantom related issues where there are no obvious reasons that we could point to.0 -
Google is not honoring my descriptions
I finally got our title tags honored and now Google is just making the descriptions whatever it wants. This is happening on pretty much every one of our pages. An example: http://www.sqlsentry.com/products/plan-explorer/sql-server-query-view SERPS = SQL Server MVP Aaron Bertrand shares a demo kit for Plan Explorer to give you better insight into the advantages of the tool, and to help you share its virtues ... Description tag = SQL Sentry Plan Explorer is a free query plan analysis tool that will allow you to find the most expensive operators by CPU, I/O, or both. I can see the description tag when I view source so I know that it is pulling it from the table correctly. What can I do to fix this?

Is this the "Google Dance"?
We just did a site redesign, and removed the noindex, etc. about 10 days ago. Over the last 24 hours, I've gotten some of my top keywords on the first page, but now they are gone, a few hours later. I assume this is typical?

Google drop down - keyword gone, why?
Hi guys, i received traffic off a yearly based term, this year for '2013' i noticed it is nowhere near what the yearly term was for the year before. I believe that Google has stopped the yearly term appearing in a drop-down menu from a big volume related term, my question is how do they determine what goes in the drop down menu for related/relevant searches?

How do i know if my domain has given penalty by Google and why?
I have problems with my website to google search results. Some of the important keywords frequently and sharply rankings vary a lot lately. For example; 07-14-2012 Term1 Position #12 07-20-2012 Term1 Position #38 07-24-2012 Term1 Position #10 07-26-2012 Term1 Position #40 I wonder what is the cause of this incident? Is there any Penalties? If there is then how do i know this?

Most user friendly review sites for Google Shopping
Hello all, Have multiple ecommerce projects going right now and thought I'd throw this one out there. We use follow up emails to try to encourage reviews for customers to all of our ecommerce stores, but find that many of them are pretty tedious as far as registering to write reviews and requiring a lot of information to get started. We primarily use Reseller Ratings and Trustpilot, but were interested if anyone had better luck using some different sites that Google also crawls for review data. Any input is appreciated. Thanks.

Google Places verification
What advice do you have for achieving verification for Google Places for a client? I have a client at the moment and I tried getting the call sent through and I'm not sure what happened but a couple of tries at this did not work. I've tried the post card way and I'm still waiting. Do I need to be more patient in Australia for this verification post card? Is there a way I can verify the info myself? note: I have set up a seperate email that there business email to handle a lot of the link building but this is different to there business email which Google uses.
