Do GoogleWacks still exist?
-
Hi there everybody,
It's the end of a long day and i have a few minutes to spare. So what better way than to spend those minutes on the seomoz forum.
As you might have already noticed this isn't a serious technical question, but more of a fun google related one.
As the title suggests..... Do googlwhacks still exist ?
For the people not familiar with a Googlewhack, its a 2 word search query that comes back with a signle hit in the SERPS.
Here are some examples of what used to be googlewhacks (which they aren't any more pretty much the moment someone writes about it and Google indexes it and gives up 2 results):
bamboozle guzzler
unmerciless politician
inculcating skullduggery
antiestablishmentarianism psycho
Who else remembers the good ol' Googlwhack days?
P.S. SeoMoz mods, I have no clue in what category to place this topic :). It's just a fun question, thats all.
-
Haha,
Good ol googlewhacking, it can be a lot of fun, but ofcourse you want to find one in the end ;).
I've added a little clip of comedian Dave Gorman.
He recorded (quite a few years ago) a live stand up after writing a book of his googlewhack adventures.
His goal was to find 10 people who had found a googlewhack. I wouldn't know where you'd be able to find the full version of it. It definitely worth the watch :).
More information about his googlewhack adventure on his site http://www.davegorman.com/projects_googlewhack_adventure.html
Have fun and goodluck Googlewhacking and if anybody finds one be sure to misspell it when posting it anywhere :). Like bamboozel guzzler --> bam--b00zle guz---zl3r
Let's see who can find the shortest long tail Googlewhack :D.
-
my guess is they would have to be pretty longtail these days.
-
Hah! That's hysterical. I have never heard this term....but I'll have you know I just wasted a good 20 minutes trying to come up with a two-word combination that would produce a single hit. No luck [and that wasn't one of the terms I tried]

I know there has been a lot of discussion lately about FAQs pages and I'm wondering when and if they are still warranted useful and what if they have positive or negative effects on page rankings. Regards, John Brown

Another website copying our blog content but credit us. Still bad?
Hi Moz community, A few businesses that we work with are asking if they can leverage our content such as blogs by basically copying it and post it on their site. They will give us credit for the content though. My concern is that going to cause duplicate content issue and hurt us with our SEO? We'd like to provide it to them in a way that would benefit us or at least doesn't hurt us. I can think of a few possible options... 1. Have them only copy part of the content and link back to our site with a link "Read the original article" or something similar 2. Have them implement rel=canonical back to our site 3. Have them just copy the whole thing (because it doesn't really hurt us?). In that case, do we have them link back to us or no? Is there anything I missed? What's the best option for us? Thank you for the help in advance!

I want to swop a site to an existing domain. i.e. it was http://A.com and now want it to be B.com...please help
The company I have started working for as two main websites. The main website (A) is out of date and not very functional but has the companies prime domain name. The other site (B) has their ecommerce engine. I'd like to make B the prime site i.e. take over A's domain name. Huge warning bells are going off regarding the SEO of this decision. Any advice or suggestions in how to go about this without destroying the company's SEO would be greatly valued.

How do I redirect a page that no longer exists?
I changed the name of a blog article I wrote and the original name is giving a 404 error. I am not sure why it isn't being directed like the other articles I renamed to improve SEO. Since the webpage no longer exists, I don't know how to redirect it. I use Wordpress and Thesis. Thanks!

Google still caching old site
Hi all, We just acquired a new domain that was being squatted on by a reseller for a very long time and on the 5th June migrated our site over to it, replacing their advertising holding page. The domain is http://primate.co.uk It's been a week now though and Google hasn't seemed to have updated it's cache. Doing a search for 'primate.co.uk' in Google lists the site but with the old holding page description. Web master tools doesn't report any errors or issues with the site. Does anyone know how we can get Google to index the domain and update it's cache? Cheers, Gordon

Are post tags on blogs still useful?
Hello I have a number of sites on Wordpress which all still use the post tag feature. Is this something that I should really be avoiding due to duplicate content issues in the url's of the site, or is it still something that can help SEO wise? I only ask as I did a crawl diagnostics report on SEOmoz and it found that 48 of my title elements were too short due to these tags in the URL's. If you do all suggest I keep using them, should they be 3 odd words which are keywords? Thanks in advance.
