How do you check keyword rankings for your sites?
-
The other day I used Rank Tracker form SEO PowerSuite and SEO small tools ranking checker http://smallseotools.com/keyword-position/ to check a keyword ranking. Both said that my clients keyword is not in top 50, but when I used Rank Tracker from Moz.com it showed that my client's keyword ranks #30 !
What's the tool that works for you all the time and is 100% reliable?

I like SEM Rush. It gives you daily ranking updates for your keywords and allows you to monitor the serps for your keywords.
I actually find the moz raking a little poor in comparison, mostly because it is only updated weekly.
But I do look at both to make sure they correlate as much as possible, and they seem to. I spot check the SEM Rush rankings against searching manually every now and then too to make sure its accurate. So far it has been. I have used it for just over a year.
All ranking tools have limitations - country specific, data center differences, google testing stuff, etc etc. Only way to be 100% sure what the ranking is is to manually check (with a 'clean' browser as mentioned by someone else), but I bet you (like me) have better things to do with your time!
Be interested to know what you choose and how you get on with it.
Best wishes,
Amelia

I would recommend awrcloud as you can set the location for your search and track different things like map results along with organic.

Note: GWT search query data is useful for sure, but isn't a keyword ranking tracker in the sense that tools by Moz, Majestic SEO, SEMRush, etc. are. For example, as compared to showing you how you are theoretically ranking (or not ranking) for the keywords you specify, it only shows you data for actual search queries that returned URLs in the SERPs.

Webmaster Tools can be surprisingly accurate. Just make sure you break it down by country in the report. https://www.google.com/webmasters/tools/

you can use rankaware, it's free for one year. I'm using moz pro and rankaware both for checking my keywords' ranking. Also rankaware will provide you PDF report of your keywords. Use the below key and add unlimited websites in the list.

First, I will say that Google has thousands of computers that respond to search results. Some of these computers have the freshest data, some of them have stale data. They also have lots of experimental versions of the search results running at any given time. In addition, search results can change depending upon your location, if you are logged into a Google service, previous searches that you have done, cookies on your browser, and many many other factors.
So, the positions of your pages in Google can move up and down depending upon all of the factors listed above and how your rankings change in any one of them.
Some of my rankings are rock solid. The rest of them jump up and down constantly. I have a few keywords where I have jumped back and forth almost randomly from any position between #15 and #4 for the past few years.
What's the tool that works for you all the time and is 100% reliable?
Nothing is going to be 100% reliable because of what I described above....
The rankings that I pay attention to are what I see in Moz Pro Rank Tracker. I think that is a good choice because location, browser, search history, cookies, personalization and most other factors are not influencing the results. But, still my rankings jump up and down there - and I can usually confirm them by searching on a machine/browser that I think is pretty clean.
If you want to track your progress, I think using a a tool that taps the Google API - like Moz Pro Rank Tracker - is as good as you are going to get. Plus Moz Pro Rank Tracker will record your rankings history in a nice chart.

No SERPs contains my keyword phrase
Hi! I have a question that is the best described by an concrete example: When I use Google UK and search for a keyword "wood floor" why the top 100 search results show pages for "wood flooring" instead? Is it because that keyword is simply more popular and pages are in general better optimized for "flooring"?

Wrong page ranking for keyword.
I have a page i'm trying to rank for certain keywords around "emergency vet clinic" the page is domain.com/emergency-vet-care but my home page is the one that is ranking better and better. How can I get the other page to rank for e.g. "emergency vet care" , "emergency animal care" and the main page to rank for just regular vet care? My on page looks pretty good. I've also taken out most references to emergency care on the main home page except for the one link to it. Thanks

My home page doesn't rank for its brand keyword
I'm wondering why my website www.travelnasia.com home page URL does not rank in the top 50 for the brand keyword "travelnasia". Does this indicate a problem? A page linking to my site ranks at No 1. A domain listing for my site ranks No 2. A SiteJabber review of my site ranks No 3. My own privacy page ranks #4 and my Contact Us page ranks No 5. My home page is nowhere to be seen in the top 50. It does rank #1 for the qualified domain "travelnasia.com", just not for the unqualified domain. I just don't know what to make of that. My competitors all seem to rank #1 for their brands, so I'm not sure why I don't at least rank in the top 50 for mine.

How do I make sure my homepage ranks better than my 2nd page when I need the same keywords for both? I don't want them competing against each other for keywords.
I seen here on SeoMoz something about more than one page having the same keywords so they don't compete against each other for the same keywords that makes sense to me. But I would like my main page (homepage) to be ranked better over time rather than the 2nd page or do I just not care about the second page ranking at all and don't SEO the page very well? ,Both pages have similar content so I need the keywords for both. So im very confused on what to do with the second page. Thanks in advance to any helpful answers, i am a newbie when it comes to SEO.

Do you use broad match or exact match on Adwords Keyword Tool when doing keyword research?
I wasn't sure whether to classify this as a discussion or a question. I'd love "the right answer" but I'm not sure if we're going to get one... Let's try. When you use the Adwords Keyword Tool for doing keyword research, do you use the numbers from "broad match" or "exact match" when comparing relative search volume of keywords? (And yes, I know the numbers need to be taken with a grain of salt, but when it comes down to it, you're using the numbers to compare and come to conclusions regarding the best keyword to use - so which match type gives you the data you're looking for?) To be a little more specific - when you select "exact match" for, let's say the keyword "baking supplies", is that telling you how many people searched for that phrase within quotes <"baking supplies">, or how many people searched for only <baking supplies="">, as opposed to that word within a phrase <baking supplies="" stores="">or with the words reversed <supplies baking="">?</supplies></baking></baking> Based on some keyword research we had done a year ago where any phrase reversals like <water bottles="">and <bottles water="">were coming out with the exact same numbers, even when it wasn't so intuitive that there would be the same search volume, we came to the conclusion - with the tentative suggestion of the SEOMoz staff on the old Q & A - that broad match would include all instances of the keywords in reverse order, so if you wanted to know how many people were searching for <water bottles="">only, you needed to use exact match. </water></bottles></water> That's what we did for about a year (I also think I saw Rand mention that somewhere in a presentation slide recently, although I could be mistaken and I don't recall exactly where it was to check it up) and then based on a recent forum discussion I had where someone was questioning that premise, I did another check with two KW reversals and while <water bottles="">and <bottles water="">still give the same number, <baking supplies="">and <supplies baking="">do not. </supplies></baking></bottles></water> So I'm left with a big question here as to what the best policy is. Google Adwords Help is very vague on what the match type means in the tool (it seems to be talking about only your settings for your campaigns). So - any input after this long saga? Thanks!

Refining Keyword Research
I am looking to refine my Keyword research process. Currently I use 4 keyword tools to get volume, competition and of course other ideas. From there I try to distill it down to categories and then order on ability to drive traffic and convert. Anyone have something they can share maybe from the excel side, maybe from the tool side... something to help me make this easy and great.
