I have been tasked with fixing SEO issues through multiple site (been learning since July and loving it). They have multiple blogs for SEO which helps to drive traffic to the main eCommerce site and they planned to keep this strategy going in the future. After the webinar today and seeing that this was considered a link scheme, I analyzed GA and they have not been hit yet on any of the algorithm updates. I know they eventually will get hit and I would like to keep this from happening.
Most of the content on the blogs are good and rank very well. Stats across the board are getting better as I have been cleaning out the thin content and making the good ranking content better. Should I just do a "nofollow" on all outbound links so we do not eventually get nailed? Would that solve the issue?

This. "In general, tactics that you have to question are usually ones to stay away from."

All the value you are trying to claim: links for relevant sites with high-quality content. That's a smart goal. However, creating websites solely to link to your site will trigger link scheme algo penalties. Additionally, even if it didn't trigger the penalties and just added no value, creating high quality, unique content will drive more value if you just host it on your own site. Then reach out to bloggers and other writers pointing them in the direction of the content.

if the year was still 2010 then yeah it would probably be recommend, but not anymore.
Google has got a lot smarter and you will just be penalised.
Unfortunately now the only way to get good rankings is to do hard work, there is no quick fixes / cheats.

The other thing is that creating unique, high quality, share-worthy content requires creative planning & resources that would be better spent towards your main site than on various microsites.

What you described is a link scheme that I highly recommend avoiding. Google's advanced algorithm will very likely identify the footprint you're leaving & could lead to a link penalty.
It's good that you understand that links are valuable for SEO, but this is not the way to go about getting them. Instead, focus on building relationships with other non-competing brands or people with large followings that will broadcast your content within your industry. SEO traffic + backlinks question
Let's say I want to write a guest post for a website that is relevant to my website. Should i guest post on a website with high traffic but the traffic country is not mine? (eg// My website sells products in Canada only, should i guest post on a high traffic site from India?) Or would it be better to find a lower traffic website to guest post on but their organic traffic comes from Canada? Thanks!

SEO SEA strategy
Hi, At this time i encounter the next problem as SEO at a retailer. They increased there SEA budget on branded and non branded keywords the generate more traffic on the Adwords campaign. But Now the SEO traffic is decreasing and the SEA traffic is getting bigger and bigger. Especialy on mobile devices where you only see the adwords link and no organic link without scrolling. It's also good for the conversion rate, so we have to do this. But i am curious how other SEO's deal with this thing. What will you do to find new sources of organic traffic? Are you using more longtail keywords or low volume or other things. Like to hear from you. Grtz, Leonie

Mat Release SEO Impact
How do Mat Releases affect SEO? Does google recognize that your are syndicating duplicate content even if the content is being syndicated across top media outlets? Do these back links still carry any authority or can we even be penalized for the duplicate content? I came across mat releases here: http://matrelease.com/ An example of article syndication outlets: Guaranteed Placement on 800+ Media Sites. I have created 5 model specific blog sites which deliver links to my core site.
I post about 500 words of unique relevant content weekly to each model blog site. Each week, seo smartlinks delivers keyword anchor text links to my core site with a 3% keyword density. I have been doing this for 3 months and my core site traffic is stagnant or slightly down. Is this a good practice since its relevant content, or am I writing for nothing? Also, am I in danger of over optimized anchor text?

Does a Subdomain Blog Pass Juice?
I have a client who has their blog on a subdomain instead of subfolder. Unfortunately, the eCommerce platform they are using does not allow them to implement a blog in the subfolder. So now we are looking at growing their blog as a means to drive more traffic to the main site. The blog is a mirror of the eCommerce site's navigation with the main content section being a blog rather than products. Will publishing content and building links to the subdomain blog pass authority to the main site?

An SEO companies position
One worrying thought following a meeting with a friend in the Poker industry was when he told me he heard some rival companies tried to spam other sites with paid listings a few years ago ? Does this happen all the time ? Also could it happen in other industries ? I was worried when hearing this news and then thought about an SEO companies position in all of this. Could an SEO company be falsely blamed for this sort of behaviour ? Is it is better to cover these things in contracts with customers.

Best to create a new blog as a subsection or as a new site?
Our company has a blog "feature" or "theme" that we'd like to publish every week at least. Should we create a subsection of our current company blog? Or should we register a new domain specifically for the feature? The latter would allow us to do some linking back to the main website, and would probably be good in terms of future career flexibility / personal branding for whoever writes it. Things to keep in mind? Anyone have any suggestions? Best practices? What should I do?
