I have been tasked with fixing SEO issues through multiple site (been learning since July and loving it). They have multiple blogs for SEO which helps to drive traffic to the main eCommerce site and they planned to keep this strategy going in the future. After the webinar today and seeing that this was considered a link scheme, I analyzed GA and they have not been hit yet on any of the algorithm updates. I know they eventually will get hit and I would like to keep this from happening.
Most of the content on the blogs are good and rank very well. Stats across the board are getting better as I have been cleaning out the thin content and making the good ranking content better. Should I just do a "nofollow" on all outbound links so we do not eventually get nailed? Would that solve the issue?

This. "In general, tactics that you have to question are usually ones to stay away from."
Another great resource is the Beginner's Guide to Link Building by Paddy Moogan.

All the value you are trying to claim: links for relevant sites with high-quality content. That's a smart goal. However, creating websites solely to link to your site will trigger link scheme algo penalties. Additionally, even if it didn't trigger the penalties and just added no value, creating high quality, unique content will drive more value if you just host it on your own site. Then reach out to bloggers and other writers pointing them in the direction of the content.

if the year was still 2010 then yeah it would probably be recommend, but not anymore.
Google has got a lot smarter and you will just be penalised.
Unfortunately now the only way to get good rankings is to do hard work, there is no quick fixes / cheats.

The other thing is that creating unique, high quality, share-worthy content requires creative planning & resources that would be better spent towards your main site than on various microsites.

What you described is a link scheme that I highly recommend avoiding. Google's advanced algorithm will very likely identify the footprint you're leaving & could lead to a link penalty.
It's good that you understand that links are valuable for SEO, but this is not the way to go about getting them. Instead, focus on building relationships with other non-competing brands or people with large followings that will broadcast your content within your industry. Odd. Unique seo question - Can you help?
This should be an interesting question - gobble up all those MOZ POINTS folks : ) Our company website is real estate based. We have nearly 30,000+ paid members on the inside that put up real estate listings (properties for sale). The members do this on their own. From an SEO stand point it sort of feels like we have a huge team of content creators putting up unique content for us. To see what I'm talking about I'll drop some links so you can review: In this first link you'll see a member of ours advertised on the NYTIMES and the clickable anchored text waterfront leads back to us or I should say the members listing. See the link below: https://www.nytimes.com/2015/09/13/realestate/city-island-a-quainter-side-of-the-bronx.html This second link is the listing page for our member that the anchored text led to. https://www.nystatemls.com/profiles/NY/SAINT_ALBANS/NEW_YORK_ESTATES_GROUP_INC/Dale_Davids/68966/listings/ When I use MOZ i can see that we got some serious link juice from the above. **This is what is happening naturally: ** When someone joins as a member the public profile of their name & office is ranking in the SERPS. Example: Higgins Realty / it's ranked #1 and brings back 100 visitors per month. https://www.nystatemls.com/agency/NY/BROOKLYN/HIGGINS_REALTY_GROUP_LLC/5575/ When someone creates a listing with our system and publishes it the address is ranking. Think of this on a mass scale. Even though they are small niche names, offices, keywords it's generating traffic. & every once in awhile the name of an office is closely related to a major keyword and we pick up something that generates say 500 to 1,500 visitors per month. When someone advertises their public profile or their listing depending on the site they advertise on or the anchored text they use it's helping our domain. Again, all of this is happening on its own we aren't pushing SEO. This simply is real estate agents and brokers doing their job and in return our Domain Authority and Page Rank is climbing. Our monthly traffic is climbing. The number of keywords we rank for is increasing. This situation must be unique because wouldn't you say that in most cases with a website they have a blog. Someone needs to write good content then try to get it linked. But in our situation our members are creating (unique content) and publishing it. How do we capitalize on this though? or I should say capitalize in a bigger way? To help everyone benefit would it be to possibly teach the members some basic SEO. What if the name of their public profile was key worded or what if we explained advertising that listing, Sharing it, getting it on other sites would benefit them. To have them link back to their profile or listing page. Maybe give them a list of suggested sites? Maybe give them a list of possible anchored texts they could use which would be keywords we want to rank for? What are your thoughts? Do you have any clever or creative ideas that would help all parties? If you want to do some research our main website is www.nystatemls.com you can review the ranking keywords, linking domains that sort of thing. Thanks for the input - Chris After

Is it a good idea to create a blog that offers quality content but also passes PageRank to sponsors
I am a part of a business networking group that has lots of members who services home owners (a/c repair, plumber, home inspector, etc.). I am thinking of starting a blog to help home owners be better informed how to care for their homes. I would like to ask for sponsorship from the people in my group. I would also like to invite them to post on the blog as a way to improve their SEO. Would posting on this kind of blog hurt, help or not affect their SEO? Would this violate Google's policy of selling links that pass page rank as described here: https://support.google.com/webmasters/answer/66356?hl=en.

Could I be the victim of negative SEO?
While I was searching for bad links to one of my website, I realized that there were lots of backlinks from trackbacks on various blogs. Most of these trackback links are definitely spammy as they are not relevant with the blog topics and they use exact anchor text. The thing is that I am 300% sure that it has nothing to do with any SEO campaign services I've bought in the past. They link back to pages I've never optimized at all. So could I be the victim of a negative SEO campaign? What do you think?

Hey, Can you tell me if it is a good practice to submit our website to a "quality" but an irrelevant web directory? For example, i run article writing service, so it is good to submit my website to a directory that's not about article writing services? Thanks in advance! Mohd
