Odd. Unique seo question - Can you help?
-
This should be an interesting question - gobble up all those MOZ POINTS folks : )
Our company website is real estate based. We have nearly 30,000+ paid members on the inside that put up real estate listings (properties for sale). The members do this on their own. From an SEO stand point it sort of feels like we have a huge team of content creators putting up unique content for us.
To see what I'm talking about I'll drop some links so you can review:
In this first link you'll see a member of ours advertised on the NYTIMES and the clickable anchored text waterfront leads back to us or I should say the members listing. See the link below:
https://www.nytimes.com/2015/09/13/realestate/city-island-a-quainter-side-of-the-bronx.html
This second link is the listing page for our member that the anchored text led to.
When I use MOZ i can see that we got some serious link juice from the above.
**This is what is happening naturally: **
When someone joins as a member the public profile of their name & office is ranking in the SERPS.
Example: Higgins Realty / it's ranked #1 and brings back 100 visitors per month.
https://www.nystatemls.com/agency/NY/BROOKLYN/HIGGINS_REALTY_GROUP_LLC/5575/
When someone creates a listing with our system and publishes it the address is ranking.
Think of this on a mass scale. Even though they are small niche names, offices, keywords it's generating traffic. & every once in awhile the name of an office is closely related to a major keyword and we pick up something that generates say 500 to 1,500 visitors per month.
When someone advertises their public profile or their listing depending on the site they advertise on or the anchored text they use it's helping our domain. Again, all of this is happening on its own we aren't pushing SEO. This simply is real estate agents and brokers doing their job and in return our Domain Authority and Page Rank is climbing. Our monthly traffic is climbing. The number of keywords we rank for is increasing.
This situation must be unique because wouldn't you say that in most cases with a website they have a blog. Someone needs to write good content then try to get it linked. But in our situation our members are creating (unique content) and publishing it.
How do we capitalize on this though? or I should say capitalize in a bigger way?
To help everyone benefit would it be to possibly teach the members some basic SEO. What if the name of their public profile was key worded or what if we explained advertising that listing, Sharing it, getting it on other sites would benefit them. To have them link back to their profile or listing page.
Maybe give them a list of suggested sites?
Maybe give them a list of possible anchored texts they could use which would be keywords we want to rank for? What are your thoughts? Do you have any clever or creative ideas that would help all parties?
If you want to do some research our main website is www.nystatemls.com you can review the ranking keywords, linking domains that sort of thing.
Thanks for the input -
Chris

In terms of the on-site architecture I think that could be improved to rank better, e.g: convert:
to:
https://www.nystatemls.com/new-york/saint-albans/new-york-estates-group-inc/dale-davids/
But keep in mind that if you did this, you'd have to do a massive internal 301 redirects project using rapid redirect technology like NginX instead of basic web.config / .htaccess mods (and NginX redirects aren't even available on all server types) to cover the change in architecture. I think it could be a good move but with that volume of URLs you'd need a forensic approach
Yes I do think basic SEO training for your members would be good, allowing them to access the H1, <title>, URL slug and Meta Description fields could be very useful. Also allowing them to set bespoke FB OG / Twitter Card share images (1200x630 for dimensions) as well as OG titles and descriptions, could significantly boost your traffic intake across SEO and social - but only if these fields were used correctly. Maybe you'd want to isolate some of the best profiles and take over the Meta updates yourself, to ensure they are 'proper'</p> <p>Incentivisation could be an issue. Yes these guys already promote their own listings, but getting them to do basic keyword research and Meta updates could be a big ask. A review system would be good. Say someone updates this data, then you review it and give it the 'good' stamp of approval - maybe they could get slightly enhanced listings for a duration in some way. Make it worth their while and you will really benefit!</p> <p> </p></title>

Questions About Link Building .
Hello Moz Community, I am about to hire a SEO firm for my website ranking. I have few questions about their link building plan. http://priceperlink.com/SEO-Link-Building/ Their link building plan ! I have purchased package 4. I have noticed they will use same article and PR again and again . Is that acceptable ? This plan is not authenticated to me. I hope google will catch me for duplicate content. Anyone can clear it please ? Another question is , If i provide unique articles , will that plan be helpful ? Still i have confusion. As I read few days ago, google don't give any value to article submission and press release distribution without any news ! So, help me quickly and suggestion as well. Will i continue with them or not. Thanks

SEO companies, Backlinks and Trade Secrets
I have spent so much time investigating what it takes to move my domain up the ladder. I have so far determined good quality optimized website and I am almost done with that. MOZ Rules! If I look at Open Site Explorer at my competitors it gives me some of their backlinks... Some people say backlinks are not as important anymore. But If I am in a Vacation Rental business and I can get other websites/blogs with high PA to post some good content that I write to link back to my website this should raise my SEO? Correct. I am fortunate that online media assets always seem to have articles such as "The best destinations this Fall", "Getting away for a long weekend", etc...... In the past I have been contacted by writers/bloggers that wanted to trade free stays at my homes for an article.... back then I had no idea what a PA was, but now I can at least point MOZ at their website to see if it is worth it. I was also thinking about hiring somebody to do this.....My question is two part... Am I on the right track about building good quality backlinks from high PA with truly good content. I have been writing articles now for 30 days along with this other stuff and have probably 10 unique pieces plus another 20 in our recent blog... When SEO companies call me weekly they all say "we can get you to the top 3 placements in 60 days or other say 3 to 5 months or others say 6 to 7 months." Being a business person I ask, "How do you do it? and what tools do you use?" I never get a straight answer, because they say it is trade secrets..... or they say they use internal tools.... This kills me! I do not want to do this myself, be an SEO company I just want to know the process a vendor will use to raise my SEO. If they were to say I have contacts at these 5 major websites and I am going to get your content listed on these websites... I would say great. 4 years ago I paid a company monthly for a year who moved my domain name from 70 to 35 but that happened in the first 3 months and then nothing. And he would never tell me what they were doing... plus now I realize my site optimization was crap. Out of 10 keyword phrases, the highest I got right now is 32 and a new guy on the block is less than 10 and has less content and backlinks... I wonder once my site optimization is done will that really really help me. Is it too much for a SEO to tell me specifics! I have purchased MOZ, Authority Labs, Buzz Stream, SEO tracker, I am committed to this... I have 15,000 facebook page likes and 80 you tube videos, pinterest and twitter too... M

Seo work for video production
Hi all, I'm about to start helping a friend who owns a video production company here in the UK. Currently he has a website with no real links. For "video production" / "video production companies" a lot of the top organic results have high number of links and according to the seomoz difficulty tool its coming in as hightly competitive 55%. Looking at the competitors there are lots of links to directories. Rather than taking this approach, do you think links to youtube for help videos, guest blogging, etc would be a more valuable strategy. He's never going to compete on linking root domains. Any help is appreciated.

One page website SEO
Can a one page website rank well with the right SEO? I am building a new site so it is best to put the content related to two or three related items on one page or create seperate pages? Surely by creating just one page I can put all my link building efforts into improving the authority of that page as opposed to spreading my time over 3?

Can being on to many directories cause a penalty from Google?
If a URL is on hundreds of different directories would that be enough for Google to penalize a website?

What's your favourite SEO directory?
We're having a bit of a debate in the office today about SEO directories. We all seem to have our favourites here - Octopedia, AbiLogic and JoeAnt to name a few that have been mentioned. Just wondering what everyone else's favourite directories for SEO are? Which pass the best link juice? Which offer the best value for money? Would love to know everyone's thoughts...
