Yoast WP Plugin - Social - G+ Author
-
Hi
The author for homepage box/dropdown menu is ony showing 'dont show' or the G+ company page name (which i presume is publsiher not author) as options.
The G+ personal page profile does link to the website in links section so wandering what might be going wrong here that i'm not being giving the option of selecting the author ?
any help here appreciated ?
all best

Look near the code and see if there is indication if it was added by a plugin - or see if you can find "

Hi Dan
Check your source code and do a Cntrl=F search for "hentry" and see if you can spot the code and any indication of if it's a plugin or where it's from. It would either be a plugin or coded into one of your theme's files (like post.php or header.php etc)
I think the data highlighter is for less code savvy folks - I have never used it, but I would give it a try as an alternative. Before you go tagging stuff, I would determine if/what on your site actually needs to be tagged too
-
ok thanks, any ideas what process to follow to identify where its coming from ?
also as a side note/question , i see GWT has a data highlighter tool, is this not a much easier quicker way of adding structured data without need for plugins such as Yoast or Ravens schema creator since can just go round site tagging stuff within data highlighter ?
many thanks

Hi Dan
This is another type of markup that is ending up on the page - maybe it's another plugin or it's coded into the theme? It's telling you for the 'hentry' the author and updated fields are missing. Unless we know how the hentry card is getting there to begin with, it's hard to say what needs to be done.
-
Now i'm looking in GWT under 'Search Appearance' > 'Structured Data' and its saying 18 items with errrors:
data type = hentry
source = microformats.org
So i click on 'items with errors' and it then lists most pages saying:
missing: 'author' & 'updated'
Does this not matter since not applying 'author' OR since not applying it should't be showing error message ?
cheers

marvelous many thanks
-
Yes exactly. Set the author of each post in the post editor, and be sure that author has his/her G+ profile link in their user settings.
-
ok great thanks, now changed to 'dont show'
i take it now i have set wp user with G+ profile whenever a post is added with byline then authorship will be automatically ?
cheers

Hi Dan
I would select "don't show" for the blog home page author. Authorship is really only for indivdual posts and articles.
-
Hi guys thanks for commenting
bit confused though since Yoast G+ interface has got both options as per below:
'Author for homepage'
Choose the user that should be used for the
rel="author"
on the blog homepage. Make sure the user has filled out his/her Google+ profile link on their profile page.&
"Google Publisher Page"
If you have a Google+ page for your business, add that URL here and link it on your Google+ page's about page.
I have entered publisher details correctly BUT the author options is a drop down which says 'dont show' or the 'brandname' which i presumed was the G+ co page but upon following your instructions i see that the developer has called the WP username the brand name so i have added the brand owner/business owners individual first name & surname in the appropriate fields and added in their personal G+ page url & selected the username so hope that should do the trick. However bit worried that it wont since username is still the brandname but hope now Authors name added in appropriate fields with G+ url & ive selected that displayed name is the personal name should all now be ok ?
I have tested the HP in the structured data testing tool & shows that publisher markup is verified for the G+ co page name & that under 'extracted structured data' there is the link to the Authors personal page under 'link-type-author', so presume all now set up correctly
All Best
Dan

Hi There - Donna is correct. This is for Publisher and a company G+ page, not an individual author page. Instead to enter your G+ personal page, try going to User->Your Profile and adding your G+ URL. Yoast should then add the author URL in the as he describes here: https://yoast.com/push-rel-author-head/
-
Nothing's wrong. That's the way it should be.
Google guidelines are to link your home page to the publisher signifying ownership of the site. POSTs point to individual authors. Here's some background in case you're interested - http://moz.com/ugc/google-plus-authorship-one-critical-thing-you-need-to-know.

Google Reviews Plugin - Does This Impact Negatively On SEO By Diluting Optimisation
I know optimisation is now considered 'old hat' but like many old hats not only is it comfortable but it is (in my experience) still functional and working in ranking websites. Yes there are plenty of other drivers, but I still consider optimisation to be important, hence the question Google Reviews Plugin - Does This Impact Negatively On SEO By Diluting Optimisation? From my (limited in many ways) understanding this puts hundreds if not thousands of extra words on a page - so this must surely be reducing the amount of optimisation? And then could it actually lead to a decline in rankings? Has anyone had any experience in this, I would love to use the Google Reviews plugin but just wanted to be sure first... Many thanks KT

Agency Domain Authority Boosting Activity
Hi Guys Have been reading up a bit on methods for boosting Domain Authority and am generally finding that the best way is by producing unique and relevant content through blogs and other kinds of articles. Having multiple clients in an agency means that there is limited time for this and I need something else to assist in boosting Domain Authority. I perform a fair bit of backlinking through online directories, however I am also finding that most blog comment sections have implemented 'no follow' codes to reduce spam content. There are plenty of free online directories, and many with high Domain Authorities, however they can take up to months for the listings to be approved. I am performing other activities to boost keyword rankings in Google for our clients but need some help with getting their Domain Authority up. Does anyone know of an efficient method for boosting Domain Authority for an agency with many clients where blog writing for each may not be a viable option? Would be great to hear anyone's ideas!

Organic Rankings - Y=5, B=2, G=Not Found!
My on-page SEO efforts are focused on generating higher visibility in Google's SERPs for my site: http://www.thegrossmanlawoffice.com. My primary keyword phrase is "winter garden divorce lawyer" I have noticed that my home page ranks higher in Yahoo (5) and Bing (2) for my primary keyword, and Google does display my site in the 7-pack local results but does not rank my home page organically. It actually ranks my business's Facebook page on page 3 of the SERPs. Yahoo includes me in the local listings in position #2...at least today it does! I am happy that Google includes me in the local results, and I am curious why it does not rank my home page organically at all. Yahoo's rankings seem to be accurately tracking my keyword phrases and the appropriate pages, and it has me ranking really well for many of my keyword phrases. I am not quite sure why Yahoo and Bing see my relevant pages and seem to be ranking me appropriately, but Google is not. I recently (within last week) cleaned up my backlink profile per a great suggestion I received here. Is that the likely culprit? Any thoughts? Thank you in advance.

Using rel="author" on product descriptions
Unique and effective product descriptions can be one of the most expensive investments that go into building a retail website. I would consider them part of the "intellectual property" of a company. These descriptions are also one of the most often pirated types of content. Some product descriptions have been grabbed and used by hundreds of pirates. When people grab your product descriptions it creates a duplicate content problem, it also starts cutting off your long-tail traffic. The discussion topic here is.... Have you heard of anyone using rel="author" on product pages with substantive content? Do you think there is any value in doing that? Is this an abuse of rel="author" Thank you!

Why is our site dropping in Domain Authority
Hi all, I have a question. I have been working SEO on our site www.betxpert.com for the last 4-6 weeks and I have been looking forward to seeing the new DA and PA numbers. However today, our DA is now 30...where it was 31 or 33 a couple of days ago. How come the decrease? I have only improved the site i should say... Hope someone can shed a little light on the issue... -Rasmus

Comment Plugin
We are set to relaunch our site on wordpress and will be creating a traditional blog section in the process. With doing so, we want to allow commenting on our blog; however, we are trying to find the best to accomplish our main goals of 1) increasing SEO and 2) creating a conversation hub that will refresh on page content I have looked toward the Facebook comment plugin; however, it doesnt add to the pages code (essentially seems that all comment posts are hidden in javascript). This does little to accomplish our goal of refreshing page content, but it does allow users an easy and seamless way to add to the conversation is a useful tool to get a mention on social channels. The thing we do like about more traditional plugins is 1) the ability to post the comment to the html so we can increase the refresh rate of page content and 2) ability to block IPs since we will likely allow comments to be open instead of requiring approval first (we want ppl to add to the conversation in real time to motivate more back and forth) so, with all that said, just looking to get opinions on the best comment plugins available to achieve our main goals of increasing our content SEO and refreshing page content by allowing seamless, user friendly commenting features.

Page Authority
I have recently optimised a set of images for a client of ours: I'm looking through all the PA of these newly optimised images, and have varying PA {from SEOmoz toolbar} I understand that internal linking will pass link juice, and obviously external links will add to the overall PA. I have several pages with a PA of 36: { Fairly deep pages} Yet they have no external or internal links going to them. My question is "How can a page gain any authority when it has no visible links pointing at it?" Obviously there must be a link pointing at it {internally} as Google wouldn't have crawled the page right? Also lets say all the keywords are of equal competitiveness would the keywords with highest PA rank higher than those on O PA pages. Many Thanks
