Site scraped/Backlink problem?
-
Hi - I was looking in my Google webmaster tools because we saw a huge jump in backlinks last week. We found this one article with 84,475 total links, which obviously stands out as spam. All the links are from 1 page and 1 domain (financeai.com).
This is the article on our website - http://loyalty360.org/resources/article/engaging-customer-atmosphere-at-pizza-patron and webmaster tools says all the links back to it come from this page http://financeai.com/forex/mxn/pkr/q/39665
My question is - should we/what can we do to clean this up? How does this impact our search ranking?
We have had some issues with our website getting extremely slow overnight, and we believe the site scraping is really slowing down the site at points.
Thanks.

It seems to usually take 2 weeks at most.
-
Got it - I guess we will just have to keep an eye out. Thank you!

Can take a week a month... nobody knows...Depends on Google
-
Thanks! Once you upload the file, how long does it usually take to make sure the links were removed?
-
Hi Carly
Yeah disavowing a link is standard practice these days if you dont want Google to take it into consideration, I would definitely be disavowing the links which you have mentioned if you cannot get them removed
Regards
-
Thanks! The website seems to be pretty sketchy so I am not sure what the chances of them actually removing the links are. Is disavowing usually a typical practice? Just wondering since google says "In most cases, Google can assess which links to trust without additional guidance, so most normal or typical sites will not need to use this tool."

I will partially agree with essential-pest!
If I would be at your place, I would have contacted the site owner first and requested him to remove the link and incase or a positive reply bingo, but in-case of no or negative reply you will only left with one choice and that is to inform Google about your problem and you can do this via using disavow tool.
Hope this helps!

Hi there,
The best practice that google recommend first is to email the webmaster of that page to take out the link, then if he do not reply you can use the tool disavow. https://support.google.com/webmasters/answer/2648487?hl=en
Good luck

If you found the link from that domain that is causing the problem, I would suggest disavowing the exact link using Google Webmaster tools.
Spam links are considered toxic links to your website and can definitely impact your ranking.

Sponsoring a show/play
Hey, How does it work with sponsorships and paid back links? I have a lawyer website, and I know lots of people who do plays and play shows. I could easily sponsor a band for like $100 and get a link on the page. Is this allowed? I could even write stuff on their page to make it more relevant. let me know, thanks.

PR1 and PR2 backlinks
We're doing some content marketing. I've heard that it is a good idea to target even PR1 and PR2 sites (small DA sites). I'm concerned about these sites disappearing after a few months, as we've found that losing a backlink can sting a bit and be worse than never having it. Though this isn't as big a deal any more. Anyways, can somebody say when a PR1/PR2 backlink would be appropriate to go after? Some of them would be easy and if it's appropriate I'd like to include them. So far they would only pass our standards if they are Above PR0 Look like a white hat, quality site from the outside Have a clean backlink profile Look like they're going to stick around Successful Social Media Accounts a plus What are you guys' criteria for including these sites? Do you gain value from them?

Backlink Building to Facebook?
Would there be any benefit to building some backlinks to your social media profiles (i.e. Facebook, Twitter), considering that you're linking to yourself regularly from them anyway? There are a few SEO companies that I would like to try out, but I figure why not try them out on my social media profiles first, before having them do any work directly to my site. Thoughts?

Someone not removing a link to our site
Hi Mozzers, We recently worked with an SEO company that bought a few sitewide links without our permission which caused us to get a huge slap by the last panda/penguin update. We managed to remove most of the links except one site (The biggest one).

Observation on Linking to other sites
Hello, I have a blog for one year now and in the overwall is going great. In all this time it was an awesome way to discovery some SEO mysterious and learn with experience wich in my point of view is the best way to do it. Now my observation is about links to other sites and what does that do. At the present I have about 35 keywords in the 3 first places in Google, bing e Yahoo. All good. I notice that the posts that I have links (dofolow) to other sites are performing better then those ones that only have internal-links. And Its curious that this change as starting to surface in Dezember of 2011. Now the confusion is about the SEOmoz observation towards external links. "You should avoid having too many (roughly defined as more than 100) hyperlinks on any given page. When search engine spiders crawl the Internet they are limited by technology resources and are only able to crawl a certain number of links per webpage. In addition, search engine algorithms divide the value of some popularity metrics by the amount of links on a given page." Now hell with this observation I say. Its working for me and for now on I will actually apply this SEO strategy when Im talking about a subject in a post:) What do you guys think? Whats your experince on this? Regards, Pedro M Pereira
