Bing Local Lists Yelp Reviews From Another Business At Shared Address
-
Hi everyone, I am having a problem with Bing local listings and am hoping someone might be able to help me out.
Basically I am working with a business that shares an address with another (separate legal entities, different owners, different phone, different domain). Both are bathroom remodelers, but one uses the space as a storefront/showroom, the other is strictly a service area business and uses the space for storage/office space (this is the one I am working with). I have claimed their listing on bing local and set it to hide the address.
The problem I am having is that for whatever reason, Bing local is associating the yelp page of business 1 (showroom) with business 2 (business 2 is not currently on yelp).
My question: what options do I have to remedy this? Is there a way to request a manual review of sorts to have this fixed? Would it be sufficient to create/verify a yelp page for business 2 and hope that Bing picks up on this?

Hi Ron,
As I mentioned above, one business will be closing down soon and in the meantime I am just trying to minimize problems like this. That is why I have hesitated to set up a full set of directory listings for the new business until the other is ready to fully step down and out of the picture. But maybe it is time to revisit that idea.
And thanks for the information about the USPS database... I never even considered this before.

Thanks for your feedback, Miriam. My original thought was to have them set up suite numbers, however one business (the one out of my control) will be closing shortly and the other will be taking over the entire space. In the meantime I am just trying to do what little I can to avoid these types of confusions.
Maybe this incident will be what it takes for me to convince them to do things my way rather than just keeping me around for damage control
Thanks again for your suggestions.

This is an interesting problem. I would take your Yelp idea a few steps further by creating a full set of local directory listings for both entities either through Moz local or manually. If one of the entities is wholesale and the other retail I would definitely consider highlighting this when you write up the descriptions for these directory listings. If they are addressing different markets I would highlight this as well.
Another thing you may consider is signing up both businesses with one of the USPS business services as these require you to put in a unique FEIN number for each entity. The fact that these are different entities will be highlighted in the USPS database as a result. The USPS database is key reference point the search engines utilize. So making it clear that these are separate entities in the USPS database should be helpful as well.

Hi There, RBMac!
Yes, I am with you on ensuring that both businesses have a Yelp profile, and this could potentially resolve the issue you are experiencing, but in reading through your scenario, I think there is a larger issue at hand that both business owners should discuss. The presence of two businesses in the same industry occupying the same address is pretty much the recipe for running into this type of citation confusion, which can then sometimes lead to even larger problems in Google (lack of trust, accidental merging, etc.). Given that these are two legally separate entities, have the business owners considered getting a legal suite number for one of the two businesses, to permanently differentiate them? While this would not completely remove the risk of merging or other mix-ups like the one you're seeing with Yelp, it could substantially decrease that risk. You would then, of course, want to be sure that all citations correctly reflected the separate addresses. Something to consider.

OK, so maybe I asked this question a little prematurely...
After inspection of the local setup of the business with the showroom I am finding out they have quite a shit show going on. There are a number of issues, but most importantly (presumably) Bing local has them listed at an old (incorrect) address with an old (incorrect) phone number. So, presumably that is the reason Bing can't associate their local results with their Yelp page (which has all of their current details) and is falling back to business 2 because it shares the same address.
If this is the case, I should be able to encourage the showroom to claim and update their bing listing and hopefully this will fix everything.
Is that a reasonable assumption or are there other measures I should take as well?

Business name change - Impact on reviews?
Hi I have a client who has created multiple GMB listings for his business using the same address, post code and phone number and I am trying to sort it all out. 2 of the listings have 1 review and 1 of them has 13 reviews. Obviously i want to keep the listing that has 13 reviews and delete the other 2. Keeping the listing with 13 reviews means I will have to update the business name in Google my business because it was originally entered wrongly. Will the profile need to be verified again? Will my client be able to keep those reviews or will they be deleted? Thanks

Google Reviews & Third Party Reviews
Hi We have a third party review provider, but were also looking at increasing our Google reviews. However after more research, should Google reviews only be used on local listings? For organisations which don't have a physical location to buy from - is the solution to use organisation schema, which incorporates 'reviews on other sites' with the hope Google may show your Feefo review count? When checking similar companies - all seem to have the organisation knowledge card and not the local Google My Business listing. Is it worth pursuing extra reviews on Google My Business or not? Thanks!

Yelp hides my reviews
Hello, This is pretty frustrating. This is the third time Yelp has hidden a review for my business. I don't know why. I am trying to get lots of reviews on different platforms but I feel at the mercy of Yelp as they decide what to show and what not. I think it was triggered when I actually replied to the reviewer on Yelp. I should have done nothing I think. Any hints or reasons why this might be happening?

Best process for asking customers to leave reviews?
This might be too off-topic for Moz, but I think many of us might face the same issue, so I thought I would ask. Love them or hate them, we get 90% of our business from being #1 on Trip Advisor. My biggest competition is trying very hard to take over that #1 spot, so we are working to keep it. Has anyone found a seamless way to ask customers for TripAdvisor reviews? We email, text, ask over the phone. But here the problem, Trip Advisor is not the easiest site to leave a review on. If you are on your phone, they want you download the app. Some people don't like to download apps. Or, if they have the app already and click "yes" to open the site in the app, it goes to the app store instead. There doesn't seem to be as much of an issue on the PC, but most people do everything from their phones now. And if something is a little bit hard, people are less likely to go out of their way to leave a review. So, here's my question. Has anyone found a better way? Maybe a form on my website? Or a process that seems to work better? This does have some SEO implications in that my Trip Advisor page does show up in search results quite a bit as well as much home page. Sometimes they are #2 and #3 together.

Local Business: Chiropractic Services & Massage Services - HOW TO BRAND
Hello! I have a client who has a chiropractic business and has started offering massage services. Client has registered a DBA For the massage component of the business. Client doesn't want to cross contaminate reviews and doesn't know whether or not he should brand the two businesses in one name or separately. Currently client has inconsistent business listings for the business and is unsure of the proper way to brand and optimize for local search. Example would be: Chiropractic AAAA Dr. John B - Chiropractic AAAA Massage BODI Chiropractic AAAA & Massage BODI Background info: Main business is one entity and second is registered as DBA. Right now, Chiropractor is a sole practitioner. in the past has had other chiropractors working in the office. Has only 1 website promoting both services Both operate out of the same location. What is the best way to optimize for local search for both services and what is the best way to brand without cross contaminating reviews online. If recommendation is to target local search separately for the services, should the client has 2 websites since these services target 2 different industries. Your feedback is greatly appreciated.

Sharing Facebook Comments Across Other Social Sites. Is It Okay?
A customer posted a nice review about our brand on her private FB page. My social monitoring tool found the review and sent me an alert. My question is if it is okay to re-purpose that review across other social channels, if the review was not specifically posted to my brand's FB timeline, but rather, discovered through listening tools.

Publishing testimonials on your site that are from your Google + (or other review sites page)
Ive got a site with some good Google + Reviews and some other good reviews on other sites that id like to be able to publish on a testimonials page on our website, but im worried about being penalised for duplicate content. Any idea of the best way to get these reviews on to our website, i was thinking about placing the text in as an image, but id prefer to do something semantic if at all possible. (I know that some review sites have javascript widgets you can use to pull in your reviews but for most of the sites we are reviewed on they dont)

Best E-Mail Service For Customer Reviews
Hello Moz Community, I manage an online wallpaper store. The site is totalwallovering.com We already have a 5 star review form in place on all product pages with rich snippets. I want to set up my own system for e-mailing customers two weeks after they purchase wallpaper from us, in effect asking them leave us a review of the product. Most people are generally willing to do so if they get a reminder. So far in the past 6 months since we have added the review form we have gotten eight reviews. I got a call from Trustpilot last week and I really liked their system ALOT but I am unwilling to pay $600/month. I would rather have all of my reviews on my own website. I literally have thousands of past customers and would like to bulk upload them into the system so that I can generate hundreds of reviews quickly but if that is not possible I can just start with the customers I get today. I am open to any suggestions. Thanks
