Self-Reffering Traffic After upgrading to Universal Analytics
-
Backstory: We have always had an issue with self-referring traffic but in waiting for the UA upgrade we put it on the backburner for getting fixed.
We have now upgraded to UA and I was under the impression that GA would automatically exclude the domain associated with a property as a referral source. However this is not what I am seeing under my referral traffic source. With 10 websites having issues with this I need some help. Should I use the referral exclusion list? Also on a handful of our sites we have region specific URLs, I am also seeing these come in as self-referring traffic. I should also mention that about 85% of our sales are being attributed to the self-referring traffic.
Here are two sites for example sake: ZootSports.com and K2snowboarding.com
-
As for the event tracking...that can also cause self-referrals with the old code, yes?
-
Thank you all, I have read conflicting information on adding our domains to the exclusion list. I will do that for sure.
-
Melissa, are you also aware of the fact that all event tracking events are still fired via the old code for Classic Analytics?
-
Hi Melissa. You'll want to go into the Admin >> Property >> .js Tracking Info >> Referral Exclusion List and add in the domain(s) you want to exclude, such as zootsports.com, www.zootsports.com, k2snowboarding.com... and so on. If you take a look at your current referral traffic in GA Reports section you should find a fairly complete list. For example, you might have mobile domains as well, things like, m.k2.... etc.
-
Yes, you can place the domain in the exclusion list. Best practice is to try to identify the root cause (missing/incorrect tracking code, redirects, self referrals, subdomain & etc.). Good luck!

How to interpret universal results?
Hi After adding some keywords to our new campaign for www.vayamundo.be/nl, the keyword "Vayamundo" ranked +51, which is strange. I then found this little marker in the universal results column which says: Universal Result: Local Contains: 3 results Vayamundo Ol Fosse d'Outh

Hour of the day that my analytics goals are being triggered within the all traffic report.
I am trying to identify the hour of the day that particular keywords (organic and PPC) are triggering my goals. Ideally I'd like to be able to use the all traffic report with the secondary dimension set as keyword. Hopefully I'm missing something simple, thanks all. Mark

Traffic Discrepancy between google and moz
I checked my traffic data this morning for this past week and there seems to be what I hope is a huge mistake. https://www.diigo.com/item/image/3vpdp/mckp My traffic seems to have dropped from 176 organic visits to 0 visits. There is no indication of this at all in Google analytics. What's going on?

How to not track mobile redirects in Google Analytics
If a user is on a mobile device and comes to our home page, http://www.darden.virginia.edu/web/Home/ they are redirected to http://m.darden.virginia.edu/web/Home/. We want a way to remove all the redirects from our Google analytics reports. More specifically we do not want to include the the page view of http://www.darden.virginia.edu/web/Home/ in our page view count when the user is on a mobile device. How do we do that?

No (Not Provided) Traffic
Hi All, I have a site that gets around 500,000 visits every month from the UK and US, but funny enough the number number of visits under (not provided) traffic is only 179 per month. For most websites I usually get 10% or 15% of the traffic under not provided, what could the reasons be for such a low percentage of (not provided)? Thanks, Carlos

Multi-Site Analytics Dashboards?
Anyone have recommendations on a good multi-site analytics dashboard? I am managing roughly 20 sites right now, and am looking for a dashboard that provides basic info like # of visitors, search traffic, etc. for a couple dozen sites at a glance.

Nonbranded Segment in Analytics
I created a segment in analytics for non-branded terms. Problem is, that when I use that segment it shows all the search traffic even non-paid. Why is that? Or, how do I limit the non-branded segment to only non-paid search? The segment I created looks like this -- Dimension: Keyword Condition: Does not a match regular expression Value: Name of client (with pipes between possible words) Thanks.
