I have listed my business in a lot of directories and my authority hasn't changed why??
-
I have listed my business in a lot of directories recently and my domain authority dropped 1 point...why?
second I would like to know what is the most effective way to increase my website domain authority?
-
Have you compared your domain authority to your closest competitors? For example if yours dropped 1 point but theirs dropped 4 this would still be considered excellent. As Monica mentioned DA tends to change a lot and this is normal.

Sorry my response might not seem very helpful, however, the keywords from all I read here is "a lot of directories". I suggest you read more about Google Penguin Update.

For this question I really recommend Rand's latest Mozinar from December.
There are a lot of practices from last year that you basically have to learn how to implement differently - especially content marketing - so sit back, relax and spend your next 90 minutes on this valuable Mozinar. It's worth it.

Creating useful content for your audience is a good way to start. Alternatively you could reach out to influencers/ experts in your field and ask them to write about you.

Hi there,
Domain authority is a metric developed by Moz to rank domains. It takes into account a whole range of factors from site structure, internal links to baclink profiles. The best way to increase your DA is simply by working on your holistic SEO.
There are some great articles around on here/ the world wide web that will help you.

Regarding your DA dropping after listing your site in directories; what directories did you register in? Are they relevant to your site?
I hope this helps!

What is the best way to build links naturally and to build a social presence?
-
Your domain authority is not influenced by NAP alone. How long ago did you update these directories? Can you be sure that Google has indexed the links? I say you need anywhere from 3-6 weeks for the newly established links to be indexed by Google.
If you want to increase your domain authority you need quality links to high authority sites and great social signals. This is proven to be effective, but it takes time. Anything that works overnight is sure to bring you a penalty or two. Give it some time. Build your links the natural, organic way and build a social presence. These methods will keep you out of trouble and build your DA.
Fluctuation in DA are quite normal. It isn't unusual to go up a point one month, go down a point another month. The same links are not crawled every month. Sometimes it is the difference in rounding up and rounding down. For example, last month my DA was 28.8, so 29. This month my DA is 29.3, which is also 29. Fluctuations are normal and should only concern you if it is a dramatic increase or decrease.

Link value from high authority domains vs low authority domains. How big is the difference?
Hi Guys. Could you send me in the direction of some quality information on link value. i.e) How much 'link juice' do you get from high authority domains vs low authority domains. Also, I understand the Moz value for DA is logarithmic, not linear. Does this also mean that a link from a site with a really high DA would be exponentially higher value than a site with a low DA. You know....like orders of magnitude better? Cheers in advance, I love you guys 😉 Isaac.

Backlink Lists
I am trying to create a valid list of backlink domain to disavow after a 50% traffic cut by Penguin......problem is I have now pulled lists from 4 tool and the lists are all different. I find a toxic domain from the tool run on LinkResearchTools and look on Google and Site Explorer and the toxic link does not even show. I look at the page and sure enough the link from year ago on a link farm is there. Is there really a rue definitive tool that will give me a list of all links? Better yet is there a tool that will help me evaluate which domain to disavow ? I want to follow Dr. Pete's advice and go slow but I am also anxious to cut ties with SEO work done by someone else in the hay day of link farm SEO and frankly looking at resent links some Bad SEO by competitors.

Should I abandon directories?
To say I'm new to SEO would be an understatement. I am heading up marketing for a firm and they have zero web presence. I've used Alexa.com to check out our competition and one site in particular has about 150 sites linking to it. I dove in deeper and created a spreadsheet. The majority of these links are sketchy, paid directory listings (or what look sketchy to me). The confusing part is, they rank first on Google when I search for industry keywords. Is it because of these directories? Should I follow them or avoid them completely? I'm planning on creating content and pushing that out to reputable industry sites. I figured getting links/mentions from these would help SEO. Should I only target these high value sites or would submitting articles to the directories with "article" sections offer any assistance? It seems as though my SEO knowledge is limited to less-than admirable tactics, although not by choice. I am planning to dive into paid search in the coming weeks but wanted to know of any "ground work" I could do aside from pushing content and paid search. It seems like there are 1,000's of these paid directory sites and I find it hard to believe they will offer me a benefit...it's just the competition is on them and something is working. Sorry this is so remedial, but I need to figure out where to go!

Back linking: Relevance or Domain Authority?
For back linking, what is more important for increasing rank for organic searches on Google? I've noticed that linking on sites with high domain authority that have some or no relevance boost my keyword ranking. However, does back linking on relevant sites help if their domain authority is not so high?

Submitting my URL on web/business/service directories
Does it make sense to submit a business URL in as many relevant web/business directories as possible when kicking off a link building campaign? Submitting a free listing is obviously better than nothing, but when does it make sense to pay extra for a premium listing profile on some of these directories? There are just so many and a lot of them appear spammy, even though some of my competitors are getting traffic from them. Any advice on this would be great!
